Crime Beat: Mindy Tran: The Abduction of Innocence | S3 E13 

As a fellow Chinese Canadian, I want to provide some context: the last name “Tran” is a Vietnamese name. But I very clearly hear the mom pleading in Cantonese (a Chinese language commonly used in south China). This suggests the unfortunate family were refugees fleeing communism (in Vietnam, after the Vietnam War). Here is a family who fled persecution and thought that their adopted homeland of Canada is safe, only for a violent child killer to end the life of their child, and for the police to be so incompetent that no one was convicted for the brutal crime, 28 years on.

Please don't call these types of people Animals. Call them Savages. Animals are too good to compare.

The cop washed the clothes, in what scenario do you clean evidence?

omg, the mom's cries ripped my heart out. 30 years LATER and still not resolved with all our modern advances in forensics and investigative technologies. And this guy, although acquitted, appears to be enjoying the spotlight with his ex juror girlfriend, something is really off here.

The older sister is so strong. My heart physically aches for their family.

What is wrong with the RCMP in BC?! They've botched so many investigations 🤦

To be angered by police attention when a little child is missing is very self centred. Annoyance that should pass immediately out of empathy and grace.

That poor mother's pain...So real when you've felt that incredibly deep grief and destitute powerlessness yourself before, ...I feel her pain, my heart breaks for her. Her pain is so palpable and raw, and deep. :( I hope she has found some peace and strength and is not suffering the loss in a such painful way now. I hope her heart has healed, despite the incredible scar that remains.

I know this was years and years ago but if this kind of idiocy and corruption from the RCMP was happening back then who's to say it isn't the same or worse now? And Kelowna RCMP just got millions of dollars a year or two ago added on to their budget. Multiple officers have been accused or sued for sexual harrassment in recent years. It's disgusting

I lived in Kelowna at the time of this horrific story. My daughter was in Kindergarten at the time that went to the same elementary School. The Kelowna RCMP screwed this case. It was a horrific story. Shame on those RCMP members. They probably are still employed at the Kelowna detachment.

This is one crime video that truly makes me cry listening to her moms cry and pleas. As now a mom myself the pain is unimaginable. I hope her family is managing alright. It’s been so long.

So the cops want the help of a psychic and guy with a divining rod but don't have cadaver dogs that could have sniffed the child out? Then they have three guys go do their dirty work for them they could have been shot by the suspect or imprisoned for assault or murder had they beat him to death. Harassed other innocent people just for owning a van. Told another officer to keep his mouth shut and not document the incident. So of course with those antics they can't get a conviction. This is worse than watching Mystic River and don't watch shows like Law and Order etc. either they give people the false impression law enforcement and the court system is not inept which it really is.

RCMP messed this up royally. This is a baby's life we are talking about. Nothing has changed sadly.

How completely heartbreaking. Can only imagine their pain. The cops screwed this up...so many mistakes. No rest for their family still.

B.C. is getting notorious for missing children and women. My sister's B.F.'s Niece Jessica States went missing at a ballpark in Port Alberni, and was later found dead. Then we have Michael Dunhee in Victoria still not found. My next door neighbor's Niece here in Naniamo, Lisa Marie Young is still not found after 20 year's. I knew the Guivan Family from Vancouver & their daughter Lisa Marie was found in a DTES Dumpsters years ago, and the killer still not found.

The guys that beat the shit out of that demon should be getting medals!!!!!

If they truly believe he is guilty why not have a re-trial seeing how it appears the jury was tainted with a woman who fell in love with the accused.

Rarely am i affected by true crime cases anymore due to how many i watch but i cried watching this, especially seeing the interviews with her family, i am a mother of 4 children myself and that gutteral cry that came out of Annie Tran was heartbreaking. I truly hope this family has somehow been able to move forward and is not frozen in 1994. R.I.P Beautiful Mindy, you are never forgotten ❤️ 🕊

OMG the mother's cry...every time I hear her painful cry just breaks my heart....

The way the accused was not upset about being beaten or about being in jail but was only happy he got off.... 100% guilty.

" It's gonna be a tough fight he's not exactly a Prince", no kidding , if he were a Prince he would have been completely dismissed as a suspect from the get go and someone else would have been the fall guy. Prince's get off the hook for their crimes.

this awful story will live in my memory forever, we lived in the Boundary/South Okanagan at the time and our kids weren't much older than Mindy was.

So sad, and if I understand correctly no one has been convicted of this crime. I'm just wondering y after all this time the evidence cannot be retested?

Sounds like there needed to be a big shake-up in the RCMP in B.C. (Did that ever happen??) Their whole mindset & culture did not work; justice then ends up coming in second. I'll bet that happens in a lot of places, actually, between the RCMP & local municipality police forces, all across the country, stuck in their mindset no matter what. I know it's happened in Toronto. Scary.

The raw primal pain of Mindy's Mother is just absolutely heartbreaking, even now as someone looking in from the outside. Sadly, these are the snapshots in time we hope to never have to capture with all our tech. But whilst we are human, sadly pain is inevitable 💔🫂😢

They have zero evidence against him. Can that hair be re-tested? Any clothes left? Swap taken? Anything of actual use?

Did nobody investigating this case find the guy with the contraption that conveniently located the body suspicious…?

So they did check out Murin's neighbor that admitted seeing Mindy knocking on her friends door, that day????? Did they also see Murin, or what? Epic failure. RIP sweetheart. So much sympathy for her family, unresolved grief.

The biggest mystery for me, why are people leaving their minor children unsupervised? It needs to become a criminal offence to allow your minor children out alone. It's all very well crying after the fact. But it isn't them spending their last minutes on earth fearful, in pain, lonely and abused.

6:00 I am stricken with panic and fear at ‘the thought’ of my child going missing. I have no idea how I would survive if it actually happened. This poor family. One of the most difficult things about being a Christian, is love and forgiveness in such an evil world.

I remember this sad sad story I have thougt about little baby Mindy over the years...rest in peace sweet baby ..I will never forget you and your family...

Personally I think a cop is responsible. I mean why would they wash her cloths and the fact they even found her in the wilderness says alot! BC has alot of unsolved murders/disappearances and I think the cops have alot to do with most of them!

They are all in such a shock the jury didn't convict a person that the police haven't found a single evidence against

I get that RCMP thinks it was him (and I'm not saying it wasn't) BUT one way or another he was proclaimed innocent. How is that okay not to try to find out if not him who? It's been so long, forensic science advanced so much since...

They said that the second guys dna didn’t match… but I didn’t hear them say it did match the original suspect? Did I miss something ?( my mind does wander, I’m multitasking!)

If he did it then he should be jailed. However the RCMP corruption shot themselves in the foot for sure and lost any chance of convicting him.

We get some REALLY stupid cops in Canada. Does anyone know anything about the cop who washed the evidence away? Is that cop similar in any way (i.e., hiring procedure) to the cop in Ontario who walked up to Jessica Lloyd's back door, and then walked away, while she was being tortured, and later killed, by Russell Williams? The cop didn't even take the license number of Williams' suspiciously-parked vehicle, nor did that cop tell her police force what she had seen once the missing person report went out. WHO HIRES THESE PEOPLE??? WHO TRAINS THESE PEOPLE???? Consider the FOUR Mounties sent to VPL to calm the distraught Robert Dzekanski. They were heavily armed and padded, he had a stapler, and they took him to the ground and killed him in their inability for the four of them to handle a distraught individual who only needed a bit calming and assistance. What would an actuary or odds maker say about a police force where four out of four are so incompetent? Yeah, the Canadian cop washed and destroyed the evidence, that's what we get up here.

I Cannot get over the Police in this case if cops behaved in that manner in Aust there would be a Royal Comission,Canada has the most lenient sentences ( maybe in the World } for the most heinous crimes victims held in little regard in Canada.

I feel for that poor Family and this beautiful little girl had to give up her innocent life so sad this just goes to show how utterly useless the RCMP is why they are still around boggles my mind

My theory is and it's just a theory ok, I don't sence that the man they originally tried to convict is the killer I think it's some one that has been in the family's house before someone that knows them.

I personally know Shan Murrin, all he and Kathy ever did to me was make me laugh and put too much food on my plate. The RCMP just didnt frame the right man with this one... Sickens me that after the framing attempt with Shan, they decided to sweep the case under a rug and force it to go cold rather than take the heat and seriously investigate their local detachment..
