Will new leads solve this 10-year-old cold case? The police say they won’t quit until they find Sonia Varaschin’s killer. Police started an investigation into the 42-year-old nurse’s death after she didn’t show up for work at a Mississauga pharmaceutical company. Her remains were discovered by a citizen a week later in Caledon, approximately 12 kilometres from Varaschin’s home.
Investigators say Varaschin was “brutally murdered in her residence” in Orangeville.
“Our investigators are as committed to finding Sonia Varaschin’s killer today as we were when it began in 2010,” said OPP Detective Inspector Shawn Glassford.
But Sonia’s family questions why it’s taking so long to make an arrest. And we hear from the man long considered by many to be a key suspect, who wants to clear his name and help get justice for Sonia.

WHY aren't these people who are hearing SCREAMING in the middle of the night (or ANYTIME REALLY!!) not calling the freaking POLICE!! call anonymously! Anything!! but DON'T IGNORE SCREAMS! Please!

I agree, but because the police often escalate any crisis- especially mental health, it can lead to somebody being killed. I agree though, people should call, but the police are why they don't :/

I lived in Orangeville when it happened. It changed the great little town forever. When her townhouse went on the market nobody told the new buyer what happened in the house and the people didn’t find out until they moved in. They didn’t want to stay in the house. They got their money back and another family bought it.

@DJNAZZZZTY
@DJNAZZZZTY 3 года назад
I can't think for the life of me why the killer would take the body from the crime scene? Why risk being seen carrying her out after her initial screams that neighbors heard? Why? Why not just leave her and slip out of town? The killer also had to be somewhat local as he didn't go far in the victims car

To not even be told how your daughter was killed, wtf? Why are they not even trying to solve this? Run the DNA!
@sheenaalexis8710
@sheenaalexis8710 3 года назад
They did. What so many of you fail to understand is once you get a sample you need a sample to RUN it against! If the killers DNA is not in the database it won't tell them who it belongs to. They then have to find the suspect another way then run it against them then to determine it's a match..It's not that easy. It's not csi Miami in real life. Doesn't work that way. Too bad we didn't have Parabon nano labs etc here in Canada. We desperately need Geneology labs to work on cold cases. Many would then be solved.

It's not right that total strangers know and the mother doesn't! They should be ashamed of themselves

So many comments about how the cop didn't say enough about the details of the case. Police have to keep stuff secret in order to solve the case! Let's say the killer starts blabbing about it to someone and they turn him in. If the details match, the police know they have the killer because nobody knew about it. If some mentally ill person confesses and didn't do it, the police can rule them out because they don't know the details. So many reasons that police do this. They also try to use the news to say things that might put pressure on the killer or convince them to come in because they say they just want to eliminate them. Ultimately solving the case eventually is more important than anyone's desire to know what happened.

It is ridiculous not to tell the family how she died and cruel...that so called detective is the pits. Give the case to someone who CAN possibly comment on anything regarding this murder to help move it on and to give some insight and information to the family on how Sonia died at least. If it is was his daughter, he would want to know as many details as possible instead of being left in the dark!
@leaharchambault5796
@leaharchambault5796 2 года назад
These detectives are the absolute worst. Understanding that some details need to be held back to weed out false confessions/increase chance of prosecution- but there is zero chance of prosecution if the detectives can't solve it. The fact that the family have not even been told HOW she died is borderline disrespectful. If I were the family, I would sue the police for information.

We need highly talented and competent people in our police forces. People with proven analytical skills, creative minds and superior problem solvers. The criteria for becoming a policeman needs to be completely overhauled. They are hiring the wrong people for the job in astonishing numbers, and more often than not, promotions are not based on merit.

So, anyone else love these Crime Beat stories but hate the fact that they’re in Canada for the simple fact that the killer, or killers, always get a light sentence and a slap on the wrist? I have yet to see Canada giving out a sentence that fits a crime 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. It really does pay to commit crimes in Canada. “Oohh ey, off ya go ey, don’t do it again now, ya hear”

Ppl say he doesnt seem like a killer-they never do.Also, police cannot disclose information on an ongoing case that is pertinent to catching a killer.
