Two people dead ...and a two year old child gone missing. A small community in the Rocky Mountains...shattered. Crime Beat reporter Nancy Hixt takes you through one of the most disturbing cases she’s covered - one which the family of the victims call a real life horror show.
Crime Beat is a true crime series that takes viewers deep into some of Canada’s most infamous criminal cases. Based on the highly successful podcast hosted by Nancy Hixt, Crime Beat showcases the best investigative crime reporting from the Global News reporters who covered the stories in real time. One very important, probably the most important detail I got from this case is how truly amazing the killers parents were. They really solved this case while knowing it was their own son. Many parents would have helped cover it up for their kid, and they easily could have....but instead after seeing who signed out their white van, made that call to police b/c the mother knew her son was disturbed & that would be a hard call to make. Horrible story with 2 very strong families.

Stop blaming that mother because you can’t understand the pain of a mother unless you’re a mother who has a son that has ended up being messed up. It’s not her fault that he chose to go down that path! That’s her son, she will love him no matter what but just because she loves him it doesn’t mean she agrees with what he did

We have perspectives that are molded from a mix of what we've lived and from inexperience. The public needs better information about the signs of serious mental illness so that they can get treatment for their mentally ill family members and recognize signs of worsening promptly--before anyone is harmed. Some people are simply so severely mentally ill that they need to either be in an institution or be under supervision to make sure they take their psych meds, avoid substance abuse and are monitored for instability. If this guy had been monitored by mental health workers, his violent tendencies would have been uncovered long before he attacked anyone, and he could have been placed in a mental institution before he hurt anyone.

@@Gabi-gd6qv I can't speak for another, but can answer this question for myself. I am happy to watch thos type of programming because despite the incomprehensible evil portrayed, I find comfort in knowing there are MANY who put all they have on the line (endure untold horror and sacrifice, yet unapologetically persist) to ensure the perpetrators face justice, the victims (including those that have passed AND survived) are brought to the forefront, and help to ensure others won't succumb to these monsters. I enjoy these videos because there is evil everywhere, but these depictions prove that there are people out there who fight every single day to make this world safer. May our God continue to heal both families and give you peace and forgiveness when it is hardest to to forgive.

I can see that they love their son yet can't reconcile what a monster he became and I truly don't think there was anything they could have done to stop him from doing what he did. I also hope that someone gets in contact with the mother and helps her. Also I really feel for the victims family and I'm not trying to take away from their grief, it's just you can clearly see two family torn asunder by a monster here and good people responding to a horrible tragedy. It truly breaks the heart and this has to be the saddest crime show I've ever watched.

I was thinking the same thing where his mom is concerned. I really feel for that lady, perhaps because I'm a parent to a young adult child. You raise them the best you can, but they're on their own once they leave the coop. The decisions they make are theirs - all you can do is pray that they choose the right path. As for the killer, he definitely should never be released. I think it's pretty safe that he won't be going anywhere. These are the most heinous of crimes, in my opinion. Anyone who can do something like this to another human, let alone to a baby doesn't deserve to walk freely ever again.

I feel bad for the guy's mom, people shouldn't take it out on her, but she knew he had problems, there were huge red flags starting when he was younger. That would have been the time for his parents to either get help for him, or help for themselves to learn how to be parents that might be able to help facilitate change in the person their son was becoming before it got to this. Before anyone comes at me bc they themselves happen to be a parent who tried their best but still had a child that got into trouble, or they knew someone who was, understand that I've been a successful therapist for 40yrs & am looking through a therapist's eyes at the limited amount of information the mom in this video has imparted. I'm not speaking about anyone other than this woman & what she's told us. Also it should be considered there may be much more to her story, but what she has said would want me to explore further exactly what he was like when he was younger & what steps were taken to help him, bc honestly I do hear alot of her expressing that she just magically hoped his problems would go away. So it sounds like he was a person already struggling with mental illness who had to try to figure it out on his own. (Unlikely that's going to happen, given her description of his past behavior.) Obviously she's not responsible for his heinous actions of murder, but one can't help but wonder if there couldn't have been something done to head off the train wreck that she describes his personality as becoming, or prevent his actions ending up in the brutal murders he committed. He's not only taken the lives of 3 innocent people, he's profoundly scarred the people who loved them.

I know this is going to read horribly.. and I am by NO way blaming this poor baby’s mother.. I pray for her to heal as much as she can and lots of love.. When she stated that she USED to be good friends with the perpetrator and that she didn’t know why he would do this, something seemed off. Maybe she felt he had feelings, maybe he scared her by coming across obsessive so she ended the friendship. I truly believe he was obsessed with her but did not have the confidence to pursue her/ already had and was rejected. I feel that his jealousy, rage, and obsession was magnified by mental illness and he committed the crime. I don’t think he’s as mentally ill as he claims to be, I think he exaggerated it to others and to himself to make HIMSELF feel better about that atrocity.

Sometimes people show no emotion as a way to cope. I myself when something horrible happens just get on with some cleaning or diy and act like normal otherwise it’s all to much. The trouble is when people don’t show emotion they are treated like they are to blame or as a bad person so sometimes to please others they have to show fake emotion. Maybe she was just so numb she couldn’t cry or scream so just had to act.

Wouldn’t it just be easier & much quicker to torture the answers out of these evil people than interrogate them? Holding their hands....telling them they’re so courageous to sit there & talk 🙄

In cases like this I understand where you’re coming from, but that’s not how the human psyche works. Torture brings too many wrong confessions just so the torture will stop - look at the witch hunts. Now imagine you’re torturing someone who turns out to be innocent and the real perpetrator gets away with it. I do hope though that the other inmates find out what he’s done and take well care of him.

God it breaks my heart when Amanda says she wakes up gasping & her memories Haley are fading, it is fucn heartwrenching. It is also terribly sad what Ms Seretsky is going through as the parent of the murderer - cant discount what she is dealing with, she is an indirect victim of this horrific crime caused by her son

I hate it when they say "had no history of crime" like the most famous serial killers didn't always have a history of crime so why do they make it sound so shocking that someone who doesn't have a criminal record commits a crime?

His mom should be helped not hindered - omg I couldn’t even imagine this... how awful - I would talk to her!!!! Sending prayers to that guys mom - she made me cry describing how her neighbours were treating her - that is so unfair

Man they really should just leave his mom alone a parent will always love that kid no matter what he's a grown man he makes his own decisions your mom is obviously hurting more than people violating her home can do

Flamencoista yeah i cringed too.. it’s cringy yet it’s one strategy to tell the perpetrator it’s ok to tell the truth and it’s ok to reveal emotions..it’s used naturally to take the situation much lighter in order for Saretzky to bring more facts. As a counselor, it’s the hardest set of words to use..my heart goes to the bereaved families..Rest in Peace Hailey❤️

When I look at such murderers, I honestly think they do it only for that short period of "fame" right after getting caught. They shower in the attention, you can tell it from their eyes and movement.

Absolutely horrific for both families. May Terry, Hailey and the older lady rest in peace. Just a thought on a support group for Sherri, there are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands and wives who have shared their story on the documentary Evil lives here who if contacted could be a resource she could use. Just a thought xx

Hmm so he was really angry that the child's mother who he was in love with didn't have the same feelings , so he kills the child and her father and had plans on killing the child's mother too , but unfortunately was caught before he had time to.
