Government Minister Stuart Young was in the hot seat recently as members of the public used the BBC's airwaves to express their dissatisfaction with the state of crime in this country.
On Wednesday evening (June 7) at the Central Bank Auditorium, the BBC recorded another segment of its World Questions series with this episode focusing on Trinidad and Tobago.
The episode is due to air on Saturday, but Guardian Media was invited to cover a very small part of the event…

Trinidad and Tobago a oil and energy rich failed state. I visited Trinidad and Tobago earlier this year and in ten days they were about 24 homicides. One of the most uncivil countries we've visited. Noise and confusion everywhere.

Wayyyyy too much 🗣 more action from the courts & more citizens should be at least given the opportunity to be issued F.U.L's so that we can have a fighting chance the TTPS & TTDF cannot do it alone it's should be a calibrated effort enough talk shop !

It starts with our citizens creating stronger, more harmonious family units and maintaining a stronger moral compass. It starts with each person understanding and accepting their own value and worth and developing respect for the self and others. This will foster self esteem. It starts with more accessible social programs, aimed at curbing mental and psychological issues and counseling for victims of violence . It starts with the senior citizens and those in high offices as well as clergymen and religious leaders setting better examples for our youth. It starts with more apprenticeship and training opportunities at institutions geared towards permanent job security. It starts with a village raising a child again and not just a struggling single parent. Perhaps a nucleus family isn't the best option for the low, middle and upper middle class. Perhaps the extended family can provide better nurturing for our children. It starts with better policy and legislation that protects our children and elderly. It starts with offering a universal grant when a baby is born to be used only for the upliftment of the child and government helping all single parents and the unemployed with food for the longterm nourishment of our children. It starts with better training of our police , and those in our protective services which includes the purging of those officers that are unfit. It calls for more conscientous politicians and patriotic citizens.
