70s-early 90s was much worse in NYC and pretty much most major cities in the U.S. than today. It's just we didn't have the internet back then so most didn't know how bad the crime was.

One solution is to increase the number of inconspicuous front and rear facing, high-resolution video cameras inside your vehicle to begin recording at the push of a button and send a copy directly to a set of phone numbers instantly. That sort of tech would do well in the market if affordably priced. This can provide police with evidence in HD or 4k resolution to be paired with facial recognition tech.

What needs to happen is that license plates need to be welded on to vehicles both in the front and rear and not be obscured or removable. too many criminals are stealing cars and then swapping out the plates because all you need is a screwdriver. if license plates were permanently attached/welded to the car, then cameras would become useful again because capturing license plate numbers would be useful. Right now cameras are useless because everyone who does crime is driving a stolen car that's cold plated.
