@Avery Lockland I think his point was that those guys weren’t smart enough to keep their mouths shut. Whether specifically incriminating or not, information was being divulged that The FBI could potentially use in building their ongoing case and to help convict Tony and sink the entire Sopranos crew.
I know Carmela isn't always the most supportive, but voluntarily spending a couple hours with Livia for Tony is like offering herself up for crucifixion, fair play to her.
FBI searches Livia's place "By god, the old bag has guns and cash in every box. She's been the mastermind all along!" Lidia does 20 years in the can, gains the respect of Phil Leotardo. Dies in prison.
Being condescending is kind of Livia’s M.O. but then Carmella looking in her face and telling her shes crazy for thinking she has a hidden agenda when she absolutely does is Carmella’s M.O.
@@arnoldoaguayo5844 its latin; modus aperandi, or like the other guy said, mode of operation. it just means "how carmella does things", she plays innocent
I used to do in home care I swear it's a elderly woman thing lol bc writing is SPOT on to a woman I used to work for she was so spiteful and gossipy apparently the writer told actor that played silv that livias character was based on his own mother 😄🤣
"Did he cheat on you again" is a great line it seems like she is being spiteful like she usually is but she actually seems concerned because she remembers being cheated on by johnny
@@_JohnDoe While it doesn't incriminate it certainly doesn't help to have a known associate either give credit or discredit an active case/indictment over a potential wire.
The mob hasn't always been very smart when it comes to being cryptic communications wise. There is the story of how the mob knew the phones were bugged so they developed coded language the problem is when they were talking about shirts and one guy goes "That sounds good I'll take two and a half shirts". Kind of defeats the purpose of using coded language if you're gonna throw up red flags like that.
Not to mention they know that they are wanted by the feds, yet they are gathering together at the same well known place on a daily basis, talking business etc. Of course it is a "face to face" business, but having such a base while the are under the microscope, is just sily.
You don't really begin to understand the full work until you've done 10 watch throughs. If you don't know all the dialogue by heart then you aren't a TRUE fan.
She didn't think she was being whacked. But she was smart enough to know Carmela didn't like her and didnt really want to spend quality time with her. And she was right.
You know that actress was starving herself. Was told by production to get help or she would be let go. That's why she looks so different compared to the pilot.
Gotta love how livia doesn't relent until Carmella frames that she wouldn't be bringing personal problems to Livia even if there were any. Being a narcissist and always looking down on people, she accepts that explanation. She can understand the pettiness of keeping stuff from people just to keep up appearances to avoid judgement.
I swear in this new sopranos movie that's coming out you're gonna see Livia slowly drain the life out of Johnny boy, Tony's dad. she's that type of wife
@@realazduffman Carmella was many things. Weak, hypocritical, two faced. Narcissistic psychopath was not one of them. She would never try to murder her own children.
Edie Falco is one of the best actors I've ever seen. I first saw her in Oz and thought she was ok. Then she went to do this show and I was stunned at how different she was. It was night and day. Pretty much the whole cast is great, but Edie's definitely the best imo.
Livia always manipulates a conversation in order to see if she herself is being manipulated. She only goes after realizing Carm did not have an agenda. Her inability to trust another human is why she survived for so long, and furthermore, Tony. S h i n e b o x
The passage of time made Americans switch their racism to other ethnic groups. Its hard to believe that at one time, both the Irish AND Italians were heavily discriminated against. But what few people know (or will admit) is that both of those ethnic groups didn't like each other! My grandmother, a very proper Edwardian lady born during the first decade of the last century, didn't like them herself. She was actually a VERY good woman, but a product of her generation and upbringing. She used to call the Italians a bunch of cheats and womanizers and the Irish a bunch of drunken fighters.
Nah, it’s too ‘outgoing’ to be improvised into the middle of the scene. I think people are probably doubting it being in the script because of the slightly-awkward camerawork that came with it, but that’s just natural and par for the course from time to time in shows.
@@histguy101 Uh, well sometimes, but sometimes stuff adlibbed on the spot makes it into the final cut without reworking and retaking it. usually when people say 'improvised' that's what they mean, as opposed to an actor having a good idea that doesn't work on the first take and then they rework and reshoot it.
The actress playing Livia Soprano was fantastic. She really nailed the stereotypical Italian mother / grandmother (speaking from experience, though not nearly as conniving or petty in my case)
@@johnnymaximum3828 I disagree. My grandmother was born and raised in Newark and we are NOT of Italian heritage and she was NOTHING like Livia. There was definitely more stereotypical Italian than Newarker in her!
She also played the mayor of Los Angeles in the original Naked Gun in 1988. That’s where a lot of people remember her from…… “Entering without a search warrant, arson, destroying property…. Sexual assault with a concrete dildo!?? Frank, what the hell were you doing there in the first place??”
they had an audio device- so tony running in and rummaging around would not at all be obvious on the recording-and not enough probable cause for a warrant to raid her stuff- unless tony went on a monologue describing what he was doing while he hid the stash- IE “ and Now I am placing the dirty money and loaded illegal firearm in my mothers hatbox…”
They might have had Green Grove bugged, even possibly Livia's apartment, but they wouldn't actively monitor it. They'd record it and listen if something came up. Sounds of a door opening and someone in the closet wouldn't mean anything to them.
Because usually those Pieces do not leave the house they are not usually throw aways usually its incase someone breaks in Like the “Schoopette” ak-47 he keeps with a pistol and hand grenade in the hidden cabinet lol when benny comes over to watch for the bear .. usually when someone gets whacked they get different tools for that he probably just moved them cause he had so many and some probably weren’t legal fire arms but the reason he touched them is cause those he keeps right in his house and they don’t leave his house if someone gets whacked they get different ones remember the gun he dropped at Johnny Sacks house .. It was a clean gun it just had his finger prints on it
True, but that wasn’t the point. The point was Tony moving them temporarily from his house in case of an immediate search and seizure by the feds. In the meantime, they’d be safe at the nursing home seeing as there’d be no reason for the feds to suspect Tony of stashing guns there.
@@kennybeans6115 i Agree with you too thats what the scene was showing he just didn’t want the feds to find em incase they were Unregistered or Not fully legal in New Jersey which is where I live and thats probably what it was a TRUE Ak-47 has a Fully Automatic setting which is illegal in the United states thats why a lot of People Get Ar-15’s I know you can prob get a AK-47 in the US legally that doesn’t have the full Auto Setting but I am not entirely sure but I Agree 1,000 percent with what you said the scene was conveying that his guns were much safer at the Nursing Home due to a Imminent raid Meanwhile they Bugged the place lol
You know, after watching this scene a million times, it just dawned on me. Wouldn’t Livia eventually find the 2 Uzis and the wads of cash looking for her robes?…. Lol
Tony's banking on Livia being the sort of old woman who does nothing but wear the same old clothes over and over again. How do I know this? Because my 94 year old grandmother is exactly the same lol. Worst part is that she still goes out and buys new things she never uses.
3 of Junior's capos have their mothers in this place. Tony moved his mother in and packed her closet with heat. This must be some kind of fucking end move.
Tony: "This is no time to go on a rant, Christopha." Christopher: "ok...on a completely unrelated side note, we should start going to a different bakery."
I absolutely love that Livia got out-manipulated by Carmela, of all people. Livia could turn men against each other as easily as she could breathe but against other women, she was entirely useless.
Tony: "Wassa matta wit chew, eh?" Chrissy: "I'm strung out on smack, got a gorilla on my back, I owe Paulie Walnuts 8 grand a week, I beat my girlfriend who's an informant for the FBI and I'm a fuckin momma's boy who deserves a beating but I get a pass on everything cuz I'm the bosses nephew, other than that everything is OK!" Fuckin luv it! aintoproudtobeg
Whatever Carmella was she was tough. She stood up to Livia's crap and shut her down. She also stood up to Tony's rages and garbage to try to keep the family together.
