He killed 6 people not 5. The little boy died later. He was kept alive so that the family could donate his organs. That takes a lot of compassion for a family to lose a child and still think of other families in need.

The part about not kicking themselves later is what cracked me up. If a juror was genuinely torn on nullifying, and the two futures they could have kicked themselves over were "I let this guy the community hates walk, everybody is miserable, the guy ends up back in jail anyways but is a walking threat until it happens and this jury is considered one of the worst in modern history" or "I put a guy who can't stay out of a court house in jail, because he drove over people, and if I'm somehow wrong, it's his self representation that was unable to prove it". Or maybe best case scenario for him "I feel bad I put a father in jail for life but there was literally no way he wasn't guilty so that part can't weigh on me anyways". Like literally if a juror was torn and thought about that it would turn them against him ten times out of ten.

Not to mention the 60+ others he seriously injured, their families, the first responders and their families, the witnesses… This fool forever altered the lives of HUNDREDS of people. When he was questioning that poor mom that had all 4 of her kids hospitalized I swear that was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. How she was able to keep her composure and not leap across that stand at him is beyond me. I don’t think I’d be able to be that strong. It’s really surprising that nobody tried to take a swing at him. There was the guy in the court that yelled at him at one point, and the victim impact statement by one of the son’s of Jane was very emotionally heated and I thought at one point he was gonna snap and go after him. And I wouldn’t have blamed him for doing so. Darrell, his momma, and his “pastor” grandmother are all incredibly insufferable, self centered, professional victim, awful human beings. My heart continues to go out to all of the people hurt…especially the children. ❤

He only wants the jury to know the information that supports his story... whatever the fuck his story is, I have no idea what his defense is but it doesn't seem to make much sense at all. He's trying to dispute the fact that it was actually him in the car when it plowed through that parade. What's crazy to me is the dude had the goal to try to argue jury nullification which makes no sense in this case in order to achieve jury nullification a perpetrator has to be sympathetic for example if a man kidnaps your child and raped him or her and you shot that guy in the face you are now charged with murder you might want to argue for jury nullification I personally wouldn't convict you and I don't care how much evidence the state had but there was no sympathy to be garnered from Mr Brooks he did what he did because he's an evil son of a bitch And he shows no remorse

Narcissists live in a grand delusion. This is why his conduct =/= consequences in his own mind. As far as he's concerned, he's the victim. The court system is victimizing him. His ex-girlfriend and mother of child was victimizing him, the governmental system was victimizing him, the law was victimizing him. He is the ultimate victim. The fact he murdered 6 people and injured many others pales in comparison to the pain he feels in his delusional experience. His experience is the only one that matters. These victims should have heard the horn! It was the car - it malfunctioned and magically hit those people! He's mentally ill and so isn't at fault! His girlfriend made him so mad that he just HAD to hit her and the rage he felt made him go out and kill and maim people! Over and over again, it's someone else's fault. This is the nature of the delusion - they are faultless, and any error they make is the fault of someone or something else. There is no reasoning with the delusional. It's not possible. There will always be a spiral of excuses as to why they cannot be held to their own actions. It's like trying to hold water in your hands, it will always flow out through some crack.

He will have a number of caretakers before him that enabled this behaviour over and over and so he learned that if he does what he does it will get him what he wants. That's how you turn children into men like this. He's still responsible for his behaviour but this sort of thing doesn't come out of a vacuum. Did you watch his mother's interview after he was sentenced? She put on a great show of being upset, the only time she released an actual tear was when the reporter asked her directly about the effect of it on her own life. THEN and only then did a tear roll - self-pity. She was roused to genuine sadness when her own life was brought into question. He has a family full of this same narcisssism.

It's worth pointing out that Brooks not giving testimony wasn't a strategic decision, it was the result of the judge interpreting Brooks's refusal to call additional witnesses when repeatedly asked if he had any additional witnesses or intended to testify himself as forfeiting through his own conduct the right to call any further witnesses or give any further testimony. Darrell Brooks conducted himself in the courtroom as one who could do whatever he wanted because there was no meaningful way the Judge could punish him for his conduct. What was she going to do? Add a few months for contempt of court on top of six consecutive life sentences?

I want to agree 109% with you, but after going back and rewatching the whole trial (yes, I’m a glutton for punishment) he had noticeable regret, noticeable pain, when it came to the kids, when their injuries or autopsies were testified to. It can be argued the pain was his fear/panic at another thing detailing publicly why he’s in trouble like in his opening, but I don’t think so. I think the kids are a soft spot. Had more parents been in the stand to detail their kids injuries, we would’ve seen his regret more. He is despicable, an easy target for ridicule and definitely deserves everything he gets, but again, I think he regrets harming the kids. If anyone reads this, I know he’s a shit parent to his own kids, so how can he regret hurting others? If he never had good role models for parents, it makes it hard(er) to be a good parent. You can love a child and not be a good parent. Behaviors are not emotions.

I feel like that’s almost giving him too much credit as like an evil mastermind, imo the honking is pretty much a symptom of road rage which I think was all that was going through his mind. If he was thinking about it at all I’m sure it’s like that scene in the Simpsons where Bart is swinging his arms and saying if Lisa gets hit it’s her fault. Like “I honked and you didn’t get out of the way so I’m not doing anything wrong.” He was in a bad mood, they were in his way, and he’s a malignant narcissist with no anger management skills.

@@blazaybla22 I also felt like when he was being interrogated, he was hoping they would go easy on him if he could convince them it was all Erika’s fault that he was even near the parade. Nothing is his fault, but everyone else is at fault in everything they do.

He only honked his horn at the very begining of the parade route. He didn't start hitting people straight away, he seemed to get worse and worse as he went on. A lot of the witnesses talk about the angry look on his face and we saw that angry face during the trial. His problem is that he has the emotional maturity of a toddler, but a toddler has very limited ability to do damage, a grown man can mow 60+ people down with a vehicle.

@kylecanavan7967
@kylecanavan7967 Год назад
The thing about jury nullification is that most people take those two words and think that it's about the jury. Jury nullification is when a jury thinks that the law is wrong, and they nullify the LAW. For example, an entire jury nullifying marijuana possession laws for example. This jury would have to think that intentional homicide isn't a good law to enforce and should be stricken from the record. That's what makes it even funnier, DB thought that they'd say "yeah, intentional homicide IS a stupid restriction on peoples' rights, you're right, go free."

His motive was to drive down that street. He honked his horn in order to part the waters. The onlookers and marching band were a nuisance to him, and he had zero tolerance, so he ran them over. Absolute sociopath here and needs to remain incarcerated for the rest of his life.

Having done a fair amount of video editing I know it's sometimes easy to miss things or render an outdated version of the video you're working on. I appreciate how hard you guys work on your videos, but I do think this one would benefit from a tune up. I'm sure you guys are working on it already. I love your videos and I hope you don't see this as a negative comment. Keep up the good work!

Agreed, love this channel but the audio is such a distraction from the story it becomes unwatchable. A quick quality check prior to posting each video could prevent a lot of headaches. And to keep the video up this long without fixing it gives the impression that you don’t care about your audience. Perhaps you don’t know how to fix it after the fact, if that’s the case, maybe mention it at the beginning of the video or make a separate one explaining the situation. Otherwise the audience feels confused bewildered

He was enraged because he was just bonded out of jail from trying to run over his ex just a week or two before this parade and was pissed that he again wasn't able to control her and get her to refuse to testify or change her story, so he was trying to physically attack her again only this time she had two friends with her. The female friend he struck in the face when she tried to defend his ex, but then the male friend yanked both women behind himself and Brooks being half this man's size backed down. The male friend told Brooks to leave that he had already alerted the police of his presence. Brooks made a U-turn crashed thru the barriers blocking the parade route, almost hitting the police standing by the barriers. Brooks honked his horn and ran over the crowed. His vehicle was found to be in perfect working condition and even if it hadn't been Ford said it had no effect on the braking system and that Brooks could have simply stopped the vehicle like the all the others that had malfunctioned.

Your missing the part where he didn't just go straight to the parade route he went to the gas station and stopped. He wasn't accidentally on the parade route because he was afraid of police the street he drove down had police vehicles on it with lights flashing. If he was afraid to get caught he wouldn't have drove towards the police. Before he dropped his GF off they drove around the area for 35 minutes he knew how to drive out of the area without being seen by police.

@@allenwoody8738 no, he was at the gas station prior to meeting with Erika, prior to the parade. He went straight from White Rock Ave (where they got into the fight) to Main street and took a right onto the parade route. IF he had turned right onto Barstow (going towards the gas station) instead of slamming into the first victim and then the Waukesha West Band, he would have been on his way to that gas station and SO MANY lives would never have been impacted. I live a mile from this street he murdered people on. Fear moved quickly throughout Waukesha. My son received a Snapchat saying that there was an active shooter driving towards our home shooting people... We feared for what could be coming our way. Of course, it was just rumors, but still!

I feel she did have something to offer, not just her display of emotion and grief over her children but when she stated she observed you beeping your horn while making a right hand turn onto the parade route.
