@@EddieCollinsMusic I totally agree! The only lessons i had on guitar were some classical guitar lessons early on. I remember learning to read the notes all the way up the neck and other things like the circle of fifths, some theory etc. Anyway, my teacher was a conservatory grad, had played at Segovia master classes and was very strict. After two years, i was playing some Bach and some Spanish pieces and had a performance to play at with other guitarists. Although it wasn't a contest, we were rated in how we did compared to the others. I remember driving there in my old volvo 240 wagon it was Winter time and my heater didn't work. I got there a little late due to the storm and literally had 15 minutes before my name was called. Thank God, my guitar warmed up enough to stay in tune and i played three pieces terrified of the older people who had programs staring at me lol. Anyway, my only mistake was i played one selection a little fast. My teacher asked if i was in a hurry. I remember saying i just wanted to play and get off the stage. Anyway i came in second and was very happy. I since of course have lost my stage fright and play many styles of guitar and soon some banjo in the mix thanks to you! MT
Thank you Sir! My daughter is learning banjo, and you pack more into a 5 minute video than others put into their 20 minute lessons. Looking forward to exploring your other videos.
I really like this "variations" idea. First, it applies to "simpler" tunes and sounds great (when YOU play anyway). Also I am a solo at-home picker forced to take 5 leads in a row whether I want to or not. Finally, it is a nice approach for learning how to do my own arrangements on songs I enjoy. Thanks you!
Wonderful playing! I have only been playing banjo for a few months but playing guitar my whole life. ITs coming along fine i don't frail as i naturally fingerpick three fingerstyle just from playing guitar so long. This was great as it wasn't difficult but takes a simple song and makes a more melodic piece with the variations. I'm glad i just subscribed! MT
Hey man, I watch a lot RU-vid, and a lot musicians and you are fantastic. You're interesting, you're super coherent and easy to understand. Please keep putting videos outside.
Greetings from 🇳🇴 Thanks for good inspiration. Picked up my first banjo in June and really enjoying the process of learning the basics. It was a bit confusing with the fifth string, but now I’m beginning to get the hang of it. Compared with the guitar and the mandolin it was strange using the thumb on the high notes on the fifth string. If you know what I mean. 😊 Thanks again. 😊
That was great! Think you’ve hit on a excellent teaching/learning approach. Just like your 5 variations for Banjo in the Hollow...taking one of those old, “beginner” songs every banjo player knows one version of, and expanding it with other versions into a much more fun learning experience. And the song with variations has so much more pizzaz. As soon as I finished watching the video, I said...I gotta learn that. Motivating! Any chance of getting the tab? Del
Love when folks let me know a video inspires them to tackle some new ideas...that's what it's all about, putting ideas out there for others to apply to their own picking. Thanks, Del.
@@EddieCollinsMusic I enjoyed it very much. It’s fun learning little variations for some of these old classics. Nice to give them a little different ‘feel’ occasionally. Thanks for posting!
