Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion - Zack's Ending Comparison - Original vs Reunion - Side by Side All the game captures, editing, thumbnail were done by me.
The one and only change I don't like is the camera angle at the end where Zack can barely fight anymore. The original version had a view of Midgar in the background. It's so sad because it's RIGHT THERE and it makes it hit harder just seeing how close Zack was to returning only to be gunned down on that cliff.
While the psp version detail is fairly tragic, I prefer the Reunion version for showcasing how much damage Zack dealt to the Shinra Army. You can actually see dead troopers and even destroyed helicopters across the map, And I enjoy the result of the battlefield because it really shows how tough Zack is facing them all alone even though he’s heading to death’s door.
Yes, Zack, I would say, that you had become a hero. You will be missed. I also like how they changed the ending Aerith scene to be more in line with the Remake.
This reminds me of how much can change by the pure fact of Zack being alive. The bombing run at the start of ff7 takes place like a week or two after cloud makes it to midgar. Zack showing up at shinra would cause chaos in many ways
Yep but it was changed at the end of ff7 remake, he will be in rebirth and important, more than he was before. The remake timeline no longer follows the original.
@@infamous1164 , I believe he is...in some alternate timeline. Until we get the third game, we won't know for sure what the hell is going on. The game _AND_ the story has been, quite literally, remade. 🤣
Okay, I think the scene where Zack's actively dying is good from both VAs. They're both pretty on top of all the breaths and nonverbal inflections when they move, or try to move, and Cody letting his voice drop on "living legacy" was a good tonal choice. He actually sounds like he's completely handing over his dreams and honor in his delivery. Rick Gomez has this subtext of "Please do this for me," and the Japanese VA leans into the inflection that his dreams and honor are gift worth giving. Cloud's new VA is really solid in that scene, gets across how ragged Cloud's feeling. His scream is, almost, as good as Takahiro Sakurai's. I am pleased that Zack got to keep his jawline in the higher def scenes.
They did a great job with redoing the final DMW spins. I was afraid that it was going to happen in the Background and you hear voiced while fighting. This is better than what I imagined. 7:34 One thing that I noticed in Reunion for both the English and the Japanese dub is that Zack doesn't have an echo in his scream. Weird that they didn't include it. Everything else was great tho. Also like that they gave the guns new sound effects and everything.
My head canon about the buster sword, it had that gold thing on it when angeal and zack were using it since they are taking care of that sword. But when cloud used it he brought wear, tear and rust on the sword then it needed to be repaired and had that those bolts placed on it. That cloud scream tho.. is so damn good
Fun fact about the psp ending. In the final battle you can't actually die until the dmw runs out of characters. It freezes you on one health point until zack's memories are wiped into oblivion. Haven't tried yet on the remake. I've been grinding down the missions
Yeah, I kinda noticed how even when character portraits are erased, they're still in the DMW along with their blank counterparts until you take enough damage.
@@ealain7600 I dunno. I've seen some people be at maximum level and it took them a while to fail. I think they basically had to let themselves get hit.
2:55 AM CST I agree. It's so raw and makes want to bawl my eyes out of their sockets. Steve Burton will always have a special place in my heart, but his scream kind of distracts me everytime and interrupts the scene for me. 3:00 AM CST Update: I just rewatched the original for comparison, and Burton's scream made me wanna laugh again.
@@michaelrobosa146 He was talking about the old version. Steve Burton can't scream properly according to sources, so they took some clips from tidus' VA.
This really brought into perspective the graphic improvements made in Reunion. I haven't played crisis core in so long that I didn't even notice how big all the changes they made really were. Wish we could have kept Gomez as VA though for sure.
well considering that the original and BBS (young zack in olympus colosseum) were released 15 to 12 years ago means a lot for VAs , their voices start changing until they cannot perform a certain role anymore, like for example Megaman Volnutt on Megaman Legends.
@@4386764 Doesn't mean they can't still voice them tho. They kept the orignal JP voice cast, so why not do the same here? I know plenty of people preferred the old voices especially Zack's and Sephiroth's.
The thing is it's only the buster sword that was changed. The cutscenes weren't rerendered at a higher resolution. The shinra army still wear their pre-remake uniforms. It just makes no sense to me why neither or these changes were made if they had the ability to go back in and make changes to the CGI cutscenes. The only scenario that makes sense to me is they always had a version of these scenes with the old buster sword design all these years and are simply repurposing them for Reunion. Like as if the decision to redesign the sword's hilt in Crisis Core was made midway through development and thus they had to adjust the CGI slightly before release, making these the beta versions.
This only made realize how powerful the PS2/PSP was.. Back then these graphics were unreal compared to previous consoles of any make. Xbox as well. Still holds up to today's standards nearly... 20 years later.
I played this on the psp. I cried the entire time on ccr doing this. My fiance is the type to not show emotions, and this got him got to him. He realized what the wiping of the dmv meant and it hit him so hard
Zack will return in ff7 rebirth(remake part 2) he is alive again as cloud destroyed the whisper harbinger in remake. There whole goal is to ensure that reality and fate go as planned, cloud disrupted this, and it needed to be fixed. This destruction sent out a wave through space and time, killing all of the Shinra soldiers attacking zack, he then leaves for Midgard. The biggest question we have is Is this still the past or is it in the future where the remake currently is? The devs stated that he will return in rebirth with a new role. The remakes have now changed lore and are now set in an alternate reality world patrolling the OG Final fantasy with crisis core reunion, being the crisis core of the remakes. We also have a new remake collection for 7 coming to mobile called ever crisis, that takes everything from ff7. Ollection, I mean everything, movie, games, Japan only releases and combines them all into one game coming this coming year
@@ThomasHannah u gotta be dumb bro watch the rebirth trailer he is alive everyone knows it, hell it’s literally in the end of remake he lives and end of intergrade we see him trying to talk to aerith they wouldnt revoice him in remake for 1 end scene
I don't think the DMW breaking was Zack losing memories. He still remember Cloud and Aerith, after all. My theory was that since his Limit Break is a mimicry of other's, the fact he is losing his ability to use Limit Breaks as a whole really is him breaking down.
Buster sword is the biggest change in the comparison scenes. The golden hilt, changed with a normal grey tone replacement and the design change is basically formal.
@@gunblaster2080 They updated the Buster Sword to resemble the Remake version, so that people can play Crisis Core Reunion as a companion to the Remake Trilogy. Also, the Golden Buster Sword was always an ugly design.
Such a shame this game doesn't give a New Game+ secret ending that ties it to FF7:Remake and the next game. The Death of Zack is a must and everyone needs to see it, but I feel after making all these improvements, they should've given us 1 more surprise. It would be great to see an ending that hints at us what and where Zack will be at the start of the next game. And it would be awesome if instead of “will continue in Final Fantasy 7” we get “Zack will return in Final Fantasy Rebirth.”
Propably because it's still a pure prequel to FF 7 original. Seeing this ending will already be confusing for people who only played Remake and doesn't realise that FF7R is acutally a sequel to the franchise. "Zack's survive" timeline will play key part in part 2 and 3 especially after seeing Yuffie DLC ending so adding anyhting to Crisis Core would be pointless and even more confusing. in hindsight i think that calling it 7Remake was a mistake, because not everyone understand that it doesn't mean remake of game but remake of events by Sephiroth.
It’s just a remaster. It has nothing to do with the Remake series except them updating the characters’ looks to look more like they do in Remake, but that’s about it.
@@ayayron8221 I’m quite aware. But when you look at this remaster, you realized they didn’t just touch up on the graphic and sound by smoothing out what already existed. No, they remade models stages, new music, new character voice recording, and a whole lot more for this remaster. All I’m saying is that, if they made new summoning animation, they should’ve made a new full motion video ending that’s completely new and will make us even more excited for the next installment.
@@ayayron8221 You do realize part 1 of the Remake is still a sequel to Crisis Core. There is a reason why they remastered this- and that is to get people up to speed with the story. Most people I saw on Reddit were newcomers to the series when they played Remake and HAD no clue about Zack Fair or who he was in the remake ending. It was essential that they gave newcomers a way to understand the prequel story of FF7 going forward. Unless you emulated the game, there was no other official way of playing Crisis Core other than the PSP.
I'm just really glad that Caleb Pierce's execution during Zack's death scene has greatly improved compared to remake!! Definitely no where as close as Rick Gomez but not too bad
The only thing that's postponing me from buying this "remake" is Zack's new voice actor. He doesn't put as much heart into it as the last voice actor did.
i enjoy the original too, but this is gonna be the new va going forward into pt 2 of the remake, so unfortunately its just something you're going to have to get used to..and id say playing through reunion is the perfect way to get used to it before pt 2 sours your experience with him
See, he said the line again, and he did it way better. I still probably think the old VA was better, but just comparing the price of freedom line from FF7R vs here, he's very noticeably better here. And it makes me think that this voice actor could be really good if he had better voice direction throughout.
Nah VA sucks balls, trough the whole game, zero soul in his voice. Its really a shame, i could live with anybody having a bad VA but not zack, especially because his story will continue in Remake while they take areriths life.
Yeah, at first i hated the new VA esp with the godawful delivery in FF7R but he seemed to do better in this game in some scenes, and not so much in others. I bet he would've done a lot better with a better voice director for sure. Maybe never as good as Rick Gomez, idk, but he definitely seems capable of doing better as shown in the final scene etc. I hope we'll continue to hear improvement when the next installment of ff7 remake comes out!
Yes, to be fair to Caleb, he'd have to have followed the lip movements of the pre-existing cut scenes, which really limits you as a VA. I'm excited for Rebirth where we'll get to seem him do his own thing
I was waiting for this, I prefer the original, I like the old portraits, I never had a problem on the DMW,but the Reunion one honestly did better at portraying Zack's memories, and mostly tried everything to not forget Aerith. I'm used to the old combat but on Reunion is good too I'm still curious about the 1000 Shinra troops mission since that was mostly annoying for me and time consuming even with Quake and Megaflare lol
@Cosmic just do mission 9-5-4 for the shop for Genji helm. Infinite MP and just go mad with Ultima w/Endure. Probably the quickest as it kills them all regardless of where they are
Love Love ...LOVE the PSP . I still have the original 1000 FAT and it just feels awesome in the hands. Best handheld ever made in my opinion ....for its time. I miss the days , tons of titles and AFFORDABLE to collect.
yea the old cg models were beautiful. Zack's eyes were so unique and his face proportions were excellent. hate to say it but the remake model looks like he's a r-word.
The only part of this scene that I loved more in the original than in the remake was Zack's final gasp and the sound of the Shinra Trooper's gun going off. It was alot more visceral in the original than in the reunion. Other than that, the reunion dominated.
16:01 why did they feel they need to insert Remake opening cutscene here when other FMVs were left intact? The cuts in Aertih scene just made it less smoth.
Switching those couple shots out with Remake's opening had me out here thinking they were gonna give us another teaser like they did with the Yuffie DLC, only for it to go right back to upscaled cinematics again. They really made us sit through Genesis' stupid gift of the goddess bullshit all over again just to psyche us out at the last possible second.
I think the subtle things are what really makes me prefer the original, like how zack's bloodied state is a bit more generic and censored here, it looks like he's covered in dirt and not so much blood. The original really makes you feel like he's been getting hounded and chased down for hours and beaten, fighting for his life and fighting hard. The subtleties of his face look more expressive there too imo in terms of whats on his mind, a brief hopelessness before returning back to battle in a weakened state. Also I like how zack is kinda out of frame here in the psp version when he gets shot on the floor it really does something to se the mood like man, he's really gone gone. Also the shinra dudes look WAAY more evil in the original with that intense red lighting. Also I really just like original crisis core's buster sword more for zack, it would be interesting to explain it away as cloud modified it to reduce his grief or something.
Very funny how when reading this I still expected someone to say " nostalgia speaking" and they did. Smh. The older stuff generally has more substance since times required more intelligence back then vs now where you can just make things brighter and detailed (in the over detailed sense) and awe people (even though this remake in particular is still good)
@@Gigi-zr6hp Yeah that's exactly nostalgia "I like how zack is kinda out of frame here" like that was a 200 IQ move planned by the developers with that specific purpose in mind. He makes no sense, he likes how not beaten up and bloody Zack is in the original and then goes on to say that the original actually makes him look like he's been fighting for his life. Like bro, Zack is literally more beaten up and tired in the remaster, it's night and day with the amount of abuse you can see on him.
Okay, I'm confused. Did they upscale, modify or remake the original pre-rendered cutscenes? They all look otherwise the same, but they made the Buster Sword look like the FF7R version.
upscale and modify, the change are minimal but reunion look less blurry and they slightly refined the edge texture, like look at cloud's skin face and eye ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9L7jDZ6Pe8Y.html and they digitally replaced sword with the help of a digital software
From what it looks like, so I'm talking out of my ass on this one, it seems like they have a high-resolution of the pre-rendered scenes, maybe 480p, 720p, or 1080p-ish(?), then upscaled it to fit 4K and did some compositing for the Buster Sword. I doubt they have the original project files and re-rendered the entire scenes because those scenes look a bit blurry. This is just speculation, of course.
I wonder how they changed the Buster Sword's model in the movie cutscene? Did they had the original asset for the cutscene or did they went in and like layered in the new model or something?
I think they should have redid all the CGI scenes using the new in-game assets. The new in-game assets have an edge over the original CGI. In most cases.
I worked a little bit with cgi, it seem they used ff7 remake cgi asset and removed the original sword digitally, this is not that much work than people think with Digital Software and it takes a lot less time than completely redone all the cgi . This is like photoshop but the rotoscopied (photoshoped) sword follow the original path of the removed sword and the new one is above it with a tracker. With my little experience I can see the new sword is higher quality than the rest and like the previous reply it has a edge. Sorry if my explanation is not clear.
I kept getting glimpses of the hair being better shaded in the original one and wasn't sure which was the better version. Despite some things better in Reunion. The water effects are much better in the Original. Reminds me of the old downgrade from the emotion engine on the PS2 that wasn't present in the PS3. For better reference, refer to this timestamp: 12:40 or 12:45 and keep it paused. Not to rub it in, but why is it raining in the Church, if it's under a giant plate? What is it raining? So many questions with that. Where does it come from?
The reason it's raining in the church is the plates are 300m above ground level (stated in a loading screen in Remake), so it's not unreasonable that if it's raining then that rain would fall into the slums too, especially when the church would be near the outer edge of the slums (the reactors, where Cloud fell from, are around the edge of the city). The Church would have to be located right next to the border of the Sector 4/5 slums, and near the very edge of the city.
After the Zack voice cameo in Remake was criticized for being a bit rough, I feel like they paid attention to Crisis Core's ending _specifically._ I think Caleb Pierce really finds his feet and nails it.
For as much as i love happy endings... i have an odd fondness for last stand battles On a related note, i havent actually gotten around to play intergrade just yet... never quite wanted to for some reason... beating Reunion is the kick i needed to do so.
You're only mad because Sephiroth sounds older than Zack and you want Zack to have a deeper voice than Sephiroth because you don't get that Sephiroth is older
7:08 This particular part in OG CC hit so much harder cause of the camera angle, we can see Zack facing us & taking damage unable to fight back. Also, when the screen fades to black, in OG, he is shot so many more times & the sound reverberates/echoes. It made it feel more violent & more brutal. It goes without saying that Rick Gomez is amazing & this new VA Caleb pierce isn’t a patch on him. I loved seeing one of my fave characters & stories in this gen & going on this journey I adore so much again, but the voice acting really was an issue for me unfortunately. I had to play with Japanese VA cause the new VA really jarred my experience & didn’t convey/deliver the lines with the emotional depth that was needed, he can’t seem to convey mood through the story through his voice very well & so it’s just the same tone & sound all the way through, as opposed to differentiating between happy, angry, sad, etc. His final stand & even where he’s dying, the little grunts of pain Rick Gomez does, little nuances like that really add to the emotion. I would love someday if square enix released a DLC to play with the OG voice cast, I’d be all over that & buy it day one!! It was the 4 mains I felt were really off: Zack, Seph, Genesis & Angeal.
A bit peeved about how they didnt change the shinra troop models in the cg cutscenes for reunion like they did with the buster sword design. Its kinda jarring how in the cutecene, all the troops have no bracers n barely anything on them, and then in gameplay it suddenly transitions to their remake models. A small thing, but it stands out a bit
No. It explains why Cloud is so screwed up in FF7. Spoilers . . Basically due to Soldier 1st class members being infused with mako and jenova cells, they can transfer their abilities to other members of soldier - remember earlier cut scenes explaining genesis copies. Basically Cloud is an unfinished zack copy - Zack has imprinted some of his memories onto Clouds, which has overridden some of his actual memories. This wasn't on purpose of course, and likely due to the blood that was transferred onto Cloud's head during Zack's final moments
It’s been years since I played this but why do they run to Midgar? You know, the central of the Shinra that they want to runaway from? Why not anywhere else?
I couldn’t fathom why they changed the design of the buster sword. Don’t get me wrong, I think the remake’s simple chunky frame fits the aesthetic just as well. But something about the OG’s Intimidating yet elegant design it’s just so striking.
To tell you this zeypher that story sets way different timeline from original bc it an remake remake means to start renew not sequel dude go check on dictionary
Am I the only one where Cloud didn't yell at the end? I watched the ending twice but Cloud didn't scream. Did I miss it? I played the PS4 version with Japanese synchro on the PS5.
