My screamingly-delicious version of the famous Chinese-American takeout dish. This recipe makes enough for 4 servings.
Ingredients:
For the chicken:
1 1/4 lbs skinless, boneless chicken thighs
4 egg whites
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Vegetable oil for frying
For the sauce:
3/4 cup orange juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 garlic cloves, minced (or, use 2 teaspoons garlic paste)
2 teaspoons minced ginger (or, use ginger paste)
Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar (or, use rice vinegar or regular white vinegar)
1 tablespoon soy sauce (or, use gluten-free Tamari sauce)
1/2-1 teaspoon sesame oil
The grated zest of 1 large orange
For finishing the sauce:
1 teaspoon cornstarch blended with 1/4 cup orange juice
