This is a Critical Analysis of the philosophical undertones found in the Epic Rap Battle of History between James Bond and Austin Powers. This battle highlights the feud between originals and their derivations, while exploiting some un-originalities that may lie even beneath the most original of ideas. I think it's hilarious how the battle that ERB mentions ERBP in is the same one where an original is rap battling its parody. This all came full circle. P.S. The Austin Powers series are my favorite movies!

There are two things that it seemed you missed: I'll kick the &*&# out of the man that does you stunts Bond: Now you listen here you little duck faced runt, I'm all in! Pretty much Daniel Craig does all of his own stunts while Sean Connery refused to, so essentially the old Bond is being called a coward and is having his "manliness" brought into question. Also Pussy aren't you a cunning linguist. I believe he said that to also reference Pussy Galore who I believe Bond used the same line on in Goldfinger.

What I like the most about this battle is how during the first 2 verses James Bond represented *all* Bonds and how Powers also dissed the actor with "you look a bit more blonde in for movie, baby" ¿Maybe towards Atha? While the line that shows if the characters represent their actors, rôles, or even genres blurs, this entire battle is just so beautifully ambiguous.

I try to keep the lyrical meanings minimal because there are more easily accessible methods of getting the gist of each line from ERBwiki and Rap Genius, but I do strive to give a unique perspective. When a lyric does something that no one has pointed out or that I think is important, I mention it. Thank you!

Wow, I was just clicking through random reacts of this ERB episode and I found something really cool. I definitely enjoyed your in-depth analysis of the episode and you brought up a lot of good points. To spotlight one in particular, it seems that a lot of people who reacted didn't get a good laugh out of the _"I don't need a Q to break your balls"_ line. Q, as in "cue". I know it's kind of an odd thing to spotlight, but hey, I've played a lot of pool and it was just nice to see somebody understand the reference. I look forward to more of your stuff. Subscribed, yo.

I thought that was a good one as well! I honestly didn't get which specific cue was being referenced until I read it and it made sense. Maybe a visual cue (no pun intended) could have helped convey the word play immediately. I sense that might be the reason why many didn't find it as clever on a first glance. I'm so glad you make these videos. The work that Pete, Lloyd and co. put into these battles go mostly unremarked, especially by those superficial reaction videos that base their content only off of initial reactions without any additional thought. Which makes it all the more shocking that somebody who unravels all the intricate references and details only has a fraction of the attention somebody who has nothing to add to the matter would get.

You completely neglected the "gas from the back slot of a fat Scot" line, which is not only foreshadowing the fact that Connery ("the Scottish bond") is going to be in the rap battle, but is also a reference to the Austin Powers character "Fat Bastard", a disgusting and flatulent Scotsman also played by Mike Myers.

I'm just surprised you manage to upload these so quickly, like, not even a week after the battle premiers. I'd struggle to get in a script for something like this each month, let alone actually recording it. Admittedly, this has discouraged me from wanting to make ambitious content on my channel, yet the only other thing I could see myself doing is gameplays, but at the same time I feel kinda cheap for doing so. I considered doing rap battles, but don't really have any friends who can act. Although I have been writing sort-of screenplays to matchups I'd want to do, and am even proud of a couple current ones. I tried sending them to your "Chisel This!" forum, but got no response. Unless it didn't send, but do you give personal critiques? Like, I keep them all on Google Docs for the time being if that were an option.

I liked the battle but I don't think EpicLloyd nailed the Sean Connery impression. I also think they could've done more with the Scottish/English reference especially how Connery backed Scottish independence and how Ian Fleming wrote Bond with all-Scottish parentage.

I like how at the start New Bond's beat takes a minute before it warms up into a more familiar James Bond sound but by his second verse he begins already warmed up which only make Old Bonds beat enter more smoothly. I especially like that during the New Bond and Powers rebuttal while they're calling Old Bond out for being rapey, their beats transition into each other without a cut between them like during their battle with one another. Old Bonds beat also begins to come in during Powers' comment but it's more forcefully taking the spotlight than the prior moment and when he does it he comes in on New Bonds beat rather than his own.

I think he does this at the beginning where he needs to, but the frustration in his second verse is important
