On this October 17th, after a tornado, I saw a 4 point buck just cruising. It was 20 minutes before sunset, he was 89M away through brush. I used a range finder as a sighting scope. I was hunting with a shotgun and slugs. Unfortunately I wasn't confident in an ethical kill, so I just let it go. The wind was blowing in the perfect direction. This was my first hunt alone.

80% of my mature bucks(4.5-7 yr olds, and 150-175 class) have been shot from now till nov 1(most on afternoon after a cold from and sunny out, or a full day before a cold front and sunny, wind is key though), and at the late afternoon , yes during rut the morning is best, but pre rut is money for me. As the does are just thinking of kicking off the fawns and the bucks are just arriving from afar and they are trying to figure out which does are about ready. Grunting is money this time of year as well, but don't over due it.

I was squirrel hunting last weekend on some public land on a piece I didn't plan on deer hunting and 2 bucks came through and completely caught me off guard. They just walked through feeding and one actually bedded down at 60 yards and had me pinned down for 2 hours. I already have my other spots scouted for deer so I was squirrel hunting this other area. So the next day I go back with my crossbow thinking I'm gonna kill that big 8 point. No deer show up. I say screw it and go back the 3rd day to squirrel hunt cause they were everywhere. I go back to squirrel hunt and guess who shows up the 3rd day... the bucks. I'm going back this weekend with a muzzleloader. Luckily both days they did not know I was there except they probably smelled me after I was gone.

Another good and informative video. Love this channel since finding it a few months ago. PLEASE need help. I have a stand that I put up this spring and it sits 24 yards off a old fence line that the deer use for travel between feeding and bedding. It was perfect and I have dozens of trail cam pic of a mature buck traveling this route. (I was already looking up the taxidermists number) The problem: The tree behind my stand split and half of it came down and destroyed my stand (I wanted to cry) I live in SE Ohio and our temps just started dropping. Typically full rut hits the week of Veterans day. I went out and bought another stand today. DO you think its to late to put the new stand up? ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thank you.

Hey man do u have any good suggestions for ebike attachments for hunting? like what front mounts do u use for ur bow and would they work on a rear rack? I don't want to mount it to my handle bars because it messes with my steering. I drive through some pretty thick brush with mine and I feel like my bow would take too many hits. Even with the front rack acting like a trucks brush guard low hanging sticks would smack it. I put a way better headlight on mine that's connected to my battery and I can control it from the handle bar buttons. Definitely needed it for driving 5miles through town at 5 am with all my gear loaded down. The headlights that come with them r too weak and not safe for driving on the roads. Lol never been stopped by the cops even with my bow attached to the back. I drove by Michigan state boys with it and everything and they have all either not noticed me or they just wave. Of course they might know better than to mess with tribal members on tribal hunting land. They do that then it becomes a federal Matter and I don't think they want that kind of backlash. Lol I would just tell them to call the tribal cops and let them deal with it. They don't have any right to mess with me on the rez anyway. I also have a rear giant flat rack attachment that u can carry a climber stand on. I can pack like 100 to 120 lbs of gear across the bike with my attachments. What's nice is I have a step thru version so I can just hop off the seat and take complete control of the bike while I have a leg on either side of it. That way the bike won't tip to one side when u come to a complete stop. Lol I only got the step thru because I'm short and I would rack myself on that middle bar if I had to jump off the bike quick. Just an added bonus that I can carry more gear comfortably because of it and it's a way sturdier frame.

Hey Cris! I have a question for you if you don't mind answering for me please. I've been hunting a good bit the past couple days and Monday morning when I got done hunting I went scouting for Deer or just fresh rubs and scrapes, well I went into this clear-cut behind my house and I saw a big Doe and two little ones at the treeline. So I made the decision Yesterday to put a ground blind up in the clear-cut, Yesterday evening I hunted it after I put it up and had 4 Doe's come in. This morning I hunted it again and saw 2 Doe's, so my question for you is do I need to stay out of that area and spot for right now until the rut gets here? I've got a good feeling it will be a good spot for a buck to chase the Doe's but I wanted your opinion on it.

Here in eastern ky, I am hunting all hills with ridges and hollers. Do you thing that if the deer get pressured they will stay at the bottom of the hollers or do you think they will continue bedding up on the points?
@JayN4GO
@JayN4GO 2 года назад
They do both. Depends on the pressure. They’ll still sun on the wind facing side of ridges unless it’s windy. If that makes sense. Then they move to the hollers around funnels and thickets. EKY is a unique place to hunt mature bucks. A strong south wind will be a west wind in the bottoms. Learn these things while out. If you can find a logging road about 3/4 down a mountain that pulls into a funnel, there will always be bucks scraping those areas and daylight movement. Fields are a coin flip for afternoon as most mature bucks stay back in a holler 300 yards from that field. Don’t pay a lot of attn to scrapes in field edges. Most are nocturnal. I love scouting an area a evening before a huge morning rain or hrs before that wind and rain so my scent gets washed out faster. Im amazed at the amount of bucks people kill riding their atv to the top of these mountains but it’s extremely effective if you can find a bench or white oak flat on top. Hunt top side mornings and bottoms in the evening. Watch those crosswinds. Good luck Logan. EKY and west Va are the hardest places I’ve hunted whitetails. But the most rewarding

In Pennsylvania, legal shooting light is a half hour before sunrise. I usually like to be in the stand an hour before that. I've definitely noticed less activity in the mornings when I've showed up right before first light so I would suggest getting in early

I agree with Tyler, look at the sunrise time and try to be in an hour before that

Another great vid! Appreciate the reminder not burn out stands to just get out. Sometimes I just go squirrel hunt on those days in and area I don’t deer hunt just to get some hunting in.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 trying to absorb and learn a lot of this information. Newish hunter in a new hunting club in the warm south. Saw a young buck chasing a doe yesterday. Fun to watch for sure. It was in the evening in a filed with a bright moon.

When does the pre rut start in Georgia? Is it earlier than where you guys hunt in the north?
@gcofield4498

Depending on county and bucks rut begins around 11/3 to 11/20.so pre rut start about 10 days before.

Tip #6 - DO NOT spook the big 10-point you have targeted on the way out of your stand..........perfect wind......first time in this stand.....and I'm such an idiot. Puts me out of the game for a week or two.

I remember when Jeff would actually reply to peoples comments. He has gotten to big now 🥲

Why call him out? He replies often. It's sour comments like this that shy people from providing excellent useful information. Are you here for the info or to get a comment recognized? Maybe shoot him an email if you want to carry a convo. Good luck in the woods. 🤙
