I love a LOT of things about this moment: the way the energy just SHIFTS when Matt announces the result of the roll (along with Taliesin's dazed expression), the absolute explosion when he says it lasts for 30 days, the way Marisha's feet fly up when she falls off the chair, how Taliesin is sitting right next to her but is the last to notice... it's just AMAZING, man.

I remember so desperately wanting Keyleth to get the last hit on Raishan, but the moment that Feeblemind took affect, it didn't matter anymore. Whoever got the last hit, Keyleth was the one that signed the death warrant.
@hakulives2613
@hakulives2613 4 года назад
And really, Keyleth WAS the one who killed Raishan: she was the Diseased Deceiver, the one known for being clever and wily, that's how she accomplished everything she did. By hitting her with Feeblemind, Keyleth took everything that made Raishan powerful and threatening and CRUSHED it. Whether she actually landed the blow that ended Raishan's life, she was the one who killed everything that Raishan was.
@genseven4616

I remember when Keyleth was hit with feeblemind and the dm (her husband) allowed her to keep fighting and using her abilities, even Sam commented on how it just made her a better fighter.....good times...good times...
@CptObvious

@@genseven4616 You say "allowed," but that's literally how the spell works. "The creature can’t cast spells, activate magic items, understand language, or communicate in any intelligible way. The creature can, however, identify its friends, follow them, and even protect them." That's why when Raishan was feebleminded, they were saying "we still have a dragon." A feebleminded creature is still fully capable of fighting and using abilities. Fighting is just basic instinct, and abilities are an innate part of a creature that are just there, as opposed to spells which were specifically learned and require extra components (V S M).
@genseven4616
@genseven4616 2 года назад
@@CptObvious fair....but wouldn't she have identified her friends and NOT kept attacking because she wouldn't have understood what was going on? I also think you're reaching with what you said about abilities. Could a chef that was hit with a feeblemind spell still make a 4 course feast? Could a feebleminded mechanic still work on your car? Could a doctor that was hit with feeblemind still perform brain surgery? If you answered no then why should marisha still be able to use her wildshapes?
@CptObvious
@CptObvious 2 года назад
@@genseven4616 It sounds to me like your the one who's reaching. In the context of the Battle Royale, they weren't her friends, they were her enemies. She was attacking them before the Feeblemind, so she would still know to keep attacking them after the feeblemind. Her Intelligence was reduced to 1, but not her Wisdom. That stayed at 22. To your other "point," none of the things you listed are natural abilities. Those are things those people learned how to do over years of studying. Feeblemind means the affected target cannot: cast spells, activate magic items, understand language, communicate in an intelligible way. Wild Shape is a Class Feature, and no where in the description of Feeblemind does it say Class Features can't be used. To quote someone else from a discussion about this on another site: "Wild shape isn't a spell nor a magic item, so feeblemind doesn't stop a druid from doing it. Furthermore, Feeblemind doesn't lower Wisdom, which is both the primary attribute for druids and a mental attribute most beasts have bonuses to (as opposed to Intelligence, which is not more than 2, and Charisma, which is often somewhat below 10), and so there's not even any fluff reason to think feeblemind would interfere with a druid's ability to be an animal."

Had something similar happen in a Fallout based RPG I was running. Four radscorpions being controlled with strange devices attacked, but one of them short circuited, so it was attacking a pillar. The party kills three of them, and one of them decides to ride the other one... and then focuses on destroying the device. So now the scorpion is no longer going crazy... is just a radscorpion… which for those who have played the video games knows, they are anger incarnate.Wound up butchering the character that tried to ride it... Sometimes messing with a monster's mind isn't always a good thing, when the result is that... it's still a monster that wants to murder you.At least in this case it stripped her of the magic fuckery that was butchering the party.

@@KageKaen And the moment is even more poetic since Keyleth was the one PC with the biggest personal grudge with Raishan, and as an ending to their grudge towards each other, Keyleth ultimately robs Raishan of the one thing Raishan most prided herself over: her intelligence. By landing that Feeblemind, Keyleth took the one thing Raishan cherished most from her, and in so doing made Raishan even dumber than *Grog* himself. In that regard I would still count this moment as a legitimate victory over Raishan, even before Vox Machina ultimately killed her.

@captcrunch2580
@captcrunch2580 3 года назад
Yep she gambled on a spell that in all reality had no business being cast here and would only succeed on the slightest of margins. You call that "knowing" how to use her spells? Especially after she spent years not knowing how her character works and having to be babysat by Matt? Even if you argue it was the right thing to do then the only optimal thing to do at every semi big bad guy is gamble on feeble mind instantly. This is not really sounding like the big brain plays you're describing here.
@samuelstensgaard4828
@samuelstensgaard4828 3 года назад
@@captcrunch2580 Raishan had an intelligence save of +4, and Keyleth had a spell save of what, 20 something? That actually had a great chance of succeeding. Also bear in mind that Marisha waited until she had used all of her legendary resistances. I know you really, really want to hate her, but I thought it was a great move.
@petersenior5432
@petersenior5432 3 года назад
@@samuelstensgaard4828 it was a really great move. And she used it despite knowing it might fail, because otherwise everyone was going to die. Raishan had tons of spells left, which she could use to escape (easily done once Scanlan was down) or murder 2-3 extra party members. She created a situation where "only" Scanlan and Percy died.
@erinjoyner3739

@@samuelstensgaard4828 THANK YOU. LOL I'm so sick of all the Marisha hate being so disproportionate to everything everyone else does. Sam throws Counterspell at Vecna (a literal almost-GOD) and gets called the biggest hero of the game, Laura in C2 saves a character with a BOLD move that very easily could've wiped them all out fighting a hag and she's the greatest player in DND history, but Marisha does something equally bold and amazing and basically gets flack for 'dumb risks'. It's so illogically misbalanced. Are people just like... crazy jealous of her or something? It's kinda pathetic.
@gamester512
@gamester512 3 года назад
Funny thing is that even had Raishan survived (like if she had fled) after falling prey to Keyleth's Feeblemind, because her Intelligence is reduced to *1* and the Saving Throw to shake it off is an *Intelligence* Saving Throw, even had Raishan lived long enough to be capable of attempting a new saving throw every 30 days, with an Intelligence modifier of -4, the odds of the Feebleminded Raishan managing to surpass the DC required to successfully save against Feeblemind and regain her normal Intelligence score would have been very low. And that means Raishan could potentially have lived out the rest of her days as little more than an unintelligent and mindless monster that would more than likely just be eventually killed by someone-something exploiting her new lack of Intelligence.
@Cultureghost
@Cultureghost 2 года назад
Wouldn’t be impossible with that modifier? By this point Keyleths DC is at least 18, so even a nat 20 would be only 16. So baring someone stupid enough to dispel magic on a green dragon, raishan would permanently be reduced to a beast. Almost as fitting an end as her death.
@gamester512
@gamester512 2 года назад
@@Cultureghost A Nat 20 on a Saving Throw is an automatic success AFAIK, so Raishan could probably only shake off the Feeblemind with a Nat 20, anything else and she'd have to wait another 30 days before she could attempt a new saving throw.
@Cultureghost
@Cultureghost 2 года назад
@@gamester512 RAW, only attack rolls and death saves have specific interactions with nat 1s and nat 20s. I'm not sure how Matt does it, as there have been instances where he still asks for the saving throw total even with a nat 20. But as far as the rules are considered, Raishan rolling a nat 20 still only equals a 16.

Who knows, maybe we'll see them again in some manner in Campaign 2? Keyleth is an Elf after all, so she's very long-lived, as is Vex, so some interplanar shenanigans might lead to the Mighty Nein meeting Keyleth and/or more of the members of Vox Machina (though, sadly, Vax would not be an option for that sort of eventuality).
@jtroxler8
@jtroxler8 4 года назад
gamester512 I’m pretty sure that campaign 1 takes place in the same world as campaign 2. Campaign 2 also takes place 30 years after the events of campaign 1, I believe so it’s totally possible that they might run into members of Vox Machnia. To clarify, though, Keyleth and Vex are technically half elves, not elves. This means that their average life span is only 1/5th of an elf’s, coming to be about 200 years. They can both certainly live long enough to be around during the events of campaign 2, especially Keyleth who’s a Druid, meaning that she physically ages only 1 year for every 10 years of her life, effectively allowing her to survive into her late 1000’s and perhaps even early 2000’s, it’s just important to keep that distinction in mind.
