@@felixcsao4184 in Malaysia for example, we undergo internship at the end of our diploma. Followed by degree, another internship. So if you hve diploma and degree, its relevant to say that you hve undergo 2 internships. At least in my case, thats how it went.

Personal Tip: please don't put percentages of knowledge about a technology. For example Javascript 80%. It's difficult to prove that you know the 80%, is a better option share a serie of projects in that technology.

I agree. Also how do you know that for the company you're applying for your knowledge of, for instance, above mentioned JavaScript, isn't 120%? You're then not helping yourself at all. Your knowledge might be enough. Don't rate yourself. Let them rate you (code-test...). I would highly recommend watching Joshua Fluke on RU-vid. His girlfriend is a HR Lady and they make a lot of content about software engineering jobs, judge other people's CVs, etc.

Thank you for these videos about resumes. I think they're very helpful for newbies like me to kind of get an idea on what to put on my resumes in the future. But Mayuko! I have a request! Could you please do a sample new resume for your old resumes? I mean, yes you mentioned what went wrong, but I'm still struggling to understand how to be more concise yet let my employer know what exactly are the skills I have. I either get too descriptive or have nothing to write at all. If you read this comment, I hope you'll give it a thought about making a video on this topic. Take care ❤

Props for posting your resume here on YT. The resume was quite wordy. Having it cover with text edge to edge does make it less appealing for an extremely busy hiring manager to fill a role. I agree pruning less essential accomplishments could have been done. Most important part of a resume is your work/internship experience. Should be front and center. If you don't have any it is the part to work on. Intern a lesser role and work your way up. Education and other accomplishments would be supporting material to make a case for you.

I am developing a social distancing alert app and my goal is to release the app before the COVID vaccine is released to the public, and I need to build the app before that deadline. Hi, I have a question for you coming from a fellow female in tech. So I graduated from college around two years back and was doing fine, this was around the metoo movement. After the movement a lot of my male colleagues have been increasingly scared around me I feel. Like for example before we would go out on dinners and hang out after work but all that basically died down (this was even before the pandemic). I'm scared that this will affect my future career because it will be harder for me to get promotions without any connections with them. Is this culture prevalent in other tech companies and what can I do about it?

alot of programming languages are very similar, if u know one, u pretty much know them all, they are all based on C. We did Java mainly at university, but I managed to write C++ and C sharp (hash is not on this friggin keyboard). Currently using Python for network programmability, and it's a walk in the park. If you understand data structure well, like ArrayLists, Maps, Sets, LinkedLists then that's where the fun really begins. Programming language is nothing we 'learn' it's something we do, what you're actually trying to 'learn' is programming. Try understanding the object orientated frame work, understand constructors, inherence, method overriding, getters & setters.

Have you actually had luck using VPNs to “unlock” other country’s Netflix content? I ask because if you worked at Netflix you would know that VPNs just don’t work with Netflix. I worked at Netflix myself in the tech support and we got those calls all the time where customers are getting error codes for using VPNs. They must first disable it to use their Netflix.

The title mentions "First Tech Company" so it means those other roles weren't at tech companies, but apart of tech teams or side projects. Most internships at big tech companies require that you have prior experience.

Definitely basic. A lot of them probably just used once or twice. Not to detract from her skills ofc, but especially then as a college student trying to score an internship, fluffing up your CV can work pretty well. Sure she might not be an expert in those languages and barely used them at all, but it can show your willingness to learn + general exposure.

@@demontheman8047 I work as a Robotics Engineer, so most of my expertise is just in C++ and Python, and then using general frameworks like ROS, Gazebo, OpenCV, etc. Etc. ! I just graduated two weeks ago and started my new robotics job a week ago so I'm still a newbie

Is it that important for USA companies that you keep your resume in a single page? Why not just make it a two page resume?

@@Canleaf08 Sure, but considering you just have a lot of relevant experience, between making extreme thin margins and just adding a small paragraph to a second page the later option sounds better to me. Or is it considered bad no matter what?
