I made a dishcloth using the extended moss stitch, this is how I finished it: When you're happy with the length of your piece, simply turn your work and do the following two rows. Ch 1, sc in same st and next 2 sts. (You'll be at the first chain space.) [dc into the st below the ch space, sc into top of the dc] repeat to end, sc into top ch. Turn your work. Ch 1, sc into same st and each st across, fasten off. The first row fills in the gaps, and you could technically be done there. But that last row of single crochets mirrors the row of single crochets at the beginning of the piece, which gives it symmetry. It didn't feel "finished" until I added that last row.

I made a scarf using this stitch, and I'm very pleased with the look. To finish, I did an extended dc,then dc in place of the single stitch (or open space) in the second to last row. Then a last row of sc. I then chain stitched around the edge. It has a very unified, completed look. Now starting a two color scarf. 2 rows for each color, alternating. Loving this look.

I ended with a row SC into each ch, and an extended HDC where the DCs were. Then I threw on an extra row of SC so it matched the beginning. (I used two strands of yarn with a size K hook, and made a nice thick mat for my kid's boots.)

Pretty easy for this dummy. Just single or half double stitch on top of the double, then go into the holes for a double crochet as usual. Depending on how thick your yarn us will show you if a single or half double is needed! Worked for me, Gluck!

I love this idea but I also really love to do my moss stitch in a square or rectangle. I use a chain 2 for my corners when crocheting a regular moss stitch in a square or rectangle. Would I need to add any extras in the corner for the extended moss stitch?
@jlon1066
@jlon1066 Год назад
I would chain 3 at the corner like a typical dc granny square. You need more length to turn the corner with a taller stitch.

I asked for Caron Big Cakes for my birthday a few weeks ago, wanting to make a blanket for myself that has no holes in it. I'm nearly bedridden and need this, but I'm having trouble finding a brainless (no counting) pattern that doesn't kill my hands. I loved the basket weave stitch, and it destroyed my shoulder, back, neck and ribcage. I was so upset! Next C2C, not sure if it's right for me. Started a two toned blanket (one side Caron Big Cake, other side Medium purple.. But its too thick. There just aren't my patterns out there for Caron Big Cakes. Wish me luck!

@qhsperson

I don't know enough about Mosaic to know if this is a good suggestion, but Red Heart makes a nice yarn called Medley. Have you tried Herrschner's online? Decent prices and a good range of yarn, with lots of sales always so you can try different yarns without spending too much.
@silverayne22
@silverayne22 9 лет назад
Thank you for the suggestion. I looked it up and I do like the eclectic and stained glass colorways. The thing I really like the the thing with mosaic is that it is a verryyyy slow transitional vibrant color which i LOVE. It kinda mimics hand dyed wool. My issue is that I am allergic to wool so mosaic was perfect because its acrylic They recently discontinued it and I stocked up but will definitely need a replacement because all the skeins I have are now booked marked for specific projects. I will keep my eye out, thanks again!

@Aussiefan19

Can this be done in the rounds as an infinity scarf or cowl?
@bemorehavemore
@bemorehavemore 6 лет назад
Sure! Chain the desired number of stitches for the diameter cowl you want. Use even # of stitches, and make a ring. Make sure you don't twist the yarn when you connect the 2 ends. You don't need extra DC or HDC's because it is continuous. Do every row like he shows you except for the ends. To start a new row, slip stitch into the first stitch ( 2nd chain up). and Ch3(='s HDC and ch1 space). Then continue with his pattern. There are a couple suggestions on the top row, The most logical is to SC in top of each DC and DC or HDC in each space. Whichever makes it look the most even. Then top that off with a row of SC to match the beginning row.

One way is to go across with single crochet stitches, including the ones that drop down to the row below. That gives it a decent finish. Just do sc instead of dc and hdc.

I'm sorry, but you speak too quickly and you work your stitches too fast, even though we have pause capability. This will turn away many beginners to crochet or just to a new stitch! Tutorial videos should be done slowly and carefully, pausing to show the work up close, with speech slow and with good enunciation...and with the written stitch instructions displayed in bold font across the top of the screen, in either rolling marquee fashion or an instruction or two at a time. Otherwise, thanks for doing what must be a tedious job. 👍
