maybe it's for those people who nag you for something crocheted/knitted and you know it's kinda waste so you do it in that yarn so they never ask again XD
@@EliseRoseCrochet I have also used this for washcloths for our household. I have found that it softens up considerably with repeated washings. I have never had a problem with the colors running either. But based on your review, I will definately try the mainstays cotton for my next washcloths.
What you buy now is not Peaches N Cream. The company discontinued the original Peaches and Cream that your Grandmother used then brought out the' stuff' they are selling now. This new 'stuff' is horrible! Seriously, I have wash clothes I crocheted more than 20 years ago with the real Peaches and Cream and they still look new and are soft. I bought one skein of this new stuff. Tore my hands up making a wash cloth. First wash the cloth literally came out looking like I used a bottle of starch on it and tie dyed it. After six months it fell completely apart. I have no idea what this new stuff is but it is not the original Peaches and Cream
The scrubby yarn is a little hard to work with, however, it makes the best pot scrubbers in the world. It cleans so great! It cleans non stick cook wear with no scratches. It works on glass like coffee pot excellently. Try making a scrubby and you will be surprised. Everyone I gift them too always comes back to me for more. ❤
Absolutely!! I have made so many scrubbies from that yarn and my friends can’t wait to get a new one every so often!! Throw it in the dishwasher to clean right along with the dishes!
The one thing I like that Peaches and Cream yarn for is when I need something that has no stretch at all. When I make a raglan cardigan, it always feels like it's slipping off my shoulders so if I take the peaches and cream and run a row of slip stitches inside the collar from one side to the other where it's not seen when wearing it, the extra structure really makes the cardigan feel better when wearing and keeps it from slipping around. This might also be a great thing to do on a shoulder seam so that it doesn't stretch out and gives more structure.
The Pioneer Woman yarn as a lot higher at Walmart when it came out. I have noticed it marked down lately. The Mandala was always cheaper than it and nicer yarn.
I'd like to see you do a *blind* challenge...have someone get you different yarns of different weights/material.. give them to you with no lables and have you test them and rank them, THEN find out which is which ❤❤
Rose, I bought the beautiful Pioneers Woman crochet hooks about 5 months ago, and what a surprise to me. I looked and I looked at the hooks and could not find the size. Later that same night, I just could not let this go, i thought I had mad a mistake the first time that I had looked them over, so I sat down to give it another go around, I still did not see the hook sizes. Well, I had also bought some markers, I love to color and wanted to try them. Well something told me to stop looking and start feeling. I started feeling the crochet hooks and down at the bottom of the hook I felt an indentation. It felt strange and I couldn’t see anything ,so I took a dark purple marker and started to color all along the bottom where I felt the little marks. Ah-Hah, there was the size, engraved into the hook. You’ll NEVER SEE IT IF YOU’RE JUST LOOKING, BECAUSE IT IS ENGRAVED IN THE WHITE OF THE HOOK, BUT WHEN YOU PUT A MARKER OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE HOOK, THEN JUST GENTLY WIPE SOME OF THE MARKER AWAY, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BARELY SEE IT. They are beautiful , and they work on some occasions better than a couple of the furls that I have purchased . Thank you also for the yarn reviews because I have been wanting to buy the Peaches and Cream ? I think is what they’re called because there is always a sell on them and they have pretty colors, but now I won’t purchase them, but I did get Premier Snap Dragon and can’t wait to try it. Bye Bye!
Had this same problem with a crochet bag that holds yarn, and supplies! I used a white permanent marker to highlight the size ! Cannot believe manufacturers made these Each needle is a lovely color , it also came with steel needles, they were marked ! Tape measure, scissors, yarn markers, acrylic/ cotton yarn , knitting needle guide, stitch markers, several sizes Pom Pom maker, also stitch holders and plastic sewing needles for yarn ! I cannot remember what I paid for it? Was around $15 a best buys from Temu, I noticed price had gone up now but still worth it , It has cute cat pattern on peach colored bag with dividers ! And is only 7 inches by 8 inches has room for more stuff too! Great for traveling !!! !
Comparing mugs to yarn? I have to smile! I avoid a lot of things with Pioneer woman and other celebrities on label not like they made them and I bet they have never tries them !! They just get a percentage of price ! Years ago ( I’m 73) You only had a couple of choices of hooks One I used was Susan Bates and still use ! Though i like the ones I mentioned previously. But aluminium hooks won’t let you down ! The pretty designs of others does not mean quality !!
Agree. The majority of shopping bags and purses I make are either Sugar'n Cream or Peaches & Cream yarn. I'm also trying out Village Yarn Craft Cotton (Herrschners) which is much softer feeling and probably a better choice for clothes, blankets, and kid's toys.
Great Review! Walmart used to be the go to place for all kinds of craft supplies. It’s sad to me that in the past ten years I have seen Walmart decreasing the number of items that they have available for the crafter. Also, the quality of many of the items has gone down. It really helps to know ahead of time whether or not an item is going to be something I want to buy. Reviews like this are sooooo helpful! You have saved us money and time! This is why we love you!
I understand what you mean. Wal-Mart and other retailers have cut many products from the crafting section. Thanks Elise for your work and posting. Peaches and Cream has its uses, just like the specialty yarns like chenille and eyelash....Thanks for the tip on the necklight. I do a lot of work when everyone else is asleep.
My local Wal/mart has drastically reduced the sewing section to mainly cloth lines and kids craft items. The last time I looked for yarn, all the store had was "Red Hart" yarn in black and a red and metallic gold, during a Christmas sale. I did buy the red/gold yarn to make Christmas themed, loomed potholders, with crocheted fluted edges.
I'm glad someone else mentioned this. I felt like I was going crazy when I noticed that the craft section looked smaller and smaller. Even the yarn section barely has any yarn anymore.
The SCRUBBY YARN was invented to make pot or dish scrubbies. I use it with a 100% cotton, held together and I crochet or knit 4" scrubbies for gifts. It's GREAT! (I would not use it alone as you are right, no stitch definition.)
Thank you for sharing! I must be very sensitive to textures because I wouldn't be able to use it because it's so scratchy. Good to know it makes good scrubbies! 🧶💙🧼
Also I learned with eyelash yarn (yes I am old enough to remember the eyelash yarn craze) that I NEVER crochet with the fancy fuzzy no-definition yarns. Knitting with them is SO much easier, because you don't have to pick up the stitches, they're all already on the needle.
Mainstays has a coating on it like Supersaver and it comes off during the wash and becomes soft. Helps keep from splitting and pilling while working with it.
5:06 Peaches and Creme is actually one of my favorite yarns to use for washcloths and swiffer covers. It is stiff to work with yes, but it holds up even after a lot of uses and washes. And I have never once had a color bleed in a wash. So not sure where that comes from.
@WillowJWolfe I use it all the time also, and have never had it bleed out. I make dish cloths, towels, and hot pads with peaches and cream. That is what it was supposed to be used for.
Agree. I’ve used it for wash clothes and hot pads in both crochet and Tunisian crochet. It’s not the greatest feeling to work up, but it works really well for what I make.
I agree I like them, not only for the price but the colors a pretty and I love the way it feels when it's worked up, i couldn't stop rubbing my hand across it when I made a big rectangle to start a blanket project 😅 lol
I made some beautiful potholders out of green and white Peaches & Cream. When they were washed, the green ran into the white, definitely spoiling the beauty. I'll never buy it again.
I grew up using Walmart craft supplies because it was the closest store to me that carried craft supplies (nearest actual craft store was an hour drive), so I'm that weirdo that actually likes their supplies
Same, growing up a crafty kid in a poor family 😂. And now I live in a small town in KY and our Walmart is in the next town over and the closest Joann’s is almost an hour away.
I love your videos. I have crocheted off and on for over 50 years. I had no idea so much has changed since I crocheted last in early 2000s. I'm 65 and now I've so much to learn and desire to make. I feel I'm 15 again learning all over again! Thank you so much for all you put in video.
I use the scrubby yarn with a good cotton yarn to make scrubbies. Using the 2 yarns together is really easy and makes beautiful and useful sscrubbies. Great lower price item for markets.
Thank you for sharing!! I don't know how your hands can take the stiffness and texture of that yarn! Good to know they are great market sellers though!! 💙🧶💦
Thank you Elise I love all your post ❤I love premier puzzle yarn and premier bloom . Thank you for checking them out for us. I was so hoping you would try the pioneer Sherpa chenille yarn . I loved the colors and feel but can’t find any patterns . I’m thinking about using it for some fuzzy amigurumi . Has anyone tried it yet?
I bought the Premier Puzzle yarn also because of that sample pattern, but I don't knit so I found a crochet chevron pattern on YT. It turned out beautiful and I'm excited for fall to use my new afghan!!!
FINALLY a neck light that doesn't use batteries! That is good quality, and is comfortable to wear! Your videos are always so well made, and entertaining to watch!
The batteries are built in, and they only recharge a certain number of times, so you never know when you are going to suddenly have no light. I have bought many rechargeable items, some last longer than others, but they all stop working at some point.
The red heart scrubby yarn is suppose to be rough. It’s for scrubbies for you to wash your dishes. Once you get use to crocheting it, it’s no problem. I use it all the time and I get a lot of scrubbies from one skein. I happen to like it a lot. I make them for all of my family
@@EliseRoseCrochet😂 it’s a sensory issue. We have it in our brains that yarn is supposed to feel a certain way. And when it doesn’t, it’s VERY hard to accept it lol I get it.
it’s funny you called this cookie monster-my friend got this yarn in brown for me to finish her Oscar the Grouch (eyebrow). I had no idea how to crochet with it so I just embroidered it over the eyes to get the look right. It worked :)
I crochet it with cotton yarn for dish cloths, they work pretty well for cleaning. But putting it with another yarn helps with the roughness while crocheting it. I wouldn't use it alone, too hard on my hands.
from Walmart I like the Coboo yarn. The Scrubby yarn is a pain in the rear to work with, but it DOES make good scrubbies. Peaches and Cream people either love it or hate it. The Mandala Ombre is positively LOVELY to work with. There are some real gems buried in Walmart.
Hi. I just finished crocheting a top out of coboo. It split like mad all throughout my workings. I used the dark bluish green, dusty rose, and tan colors. Color blocked top. It was nice to work with at times but a struggle at others. I worked from center cake. It seemed the twist disappeared and flattened out to strings. That's where I had most of splitting issues. I have some tan left over and am thinking of making coasters for coworkers but then there's the struggle of splitting. 🤔 Seriously thinking of tossing that idea.
I love the scrubby yarn, I have made tons of scrubbers, I bought over 100 of them in as many colors I could find, I use it by itself and I also use it with a finer cotton, I have made back scrubbers and body scrubbers, in Canada it’s $7.99 , so whenever I could get it for $4.50 or less I bought all they had. I have given finished as gifts. Always so well received.
Wow. I have been crocheting for over 36 years. I have never thought of a neck light for crocheting. I am now going to their website to get one. It was so nice of the company to send you two to give one away. Thanks for letting me know. Happy Hooking ❤️
@@EliseRoseCrochet it is interesting though i saw some yarn i really would like to have like bernat blanket but its insanely expensive to ship it here so i just watch your videos 🙂
The pink case is actually a tackle box. It's very cute in the pink, but you could probably get a tackle box on sale for a bit less money, and if you're not a pink girlie, it's another option! Thank you as always for your reviews! I love these videos! ❤
I got a couple of those cases at Walmart years ago for Jewelry supplies. Soooo easy to keep things organized and I love being able to pull out the little cases. Love them!
Yep, if I find a craft organizer I like but seems pricey, I can usually find something just as good in the fishing aisle for less money and made in the USA.
0:07 i have had one of these for years. Used it for legos, but kids didn't like it. Want to use it for craft supplies, but have not come up with a good arrangement. Would love demos showing various yarn products, etc. Thank you @@rebeccamcnutt5142
I got a tackle box for my sewing supplies because sewing boxes tend to be really cheaply made for how much they want you to pay, most of them just being a tiny thin plastic tray with a couple ridges in an otherwise empty box, and they want $30+ for it. Tackle boxes are cheaper, bigger, and have way more actual storage - and that applies to the pink box here, too. I got one of these and I find the tackle box much more versatile. The craft tax strikes again.
Good reviews, your video really brought home the fact that crochet is a very sensory experience. I have inflammation in my hands also, but up until a few years ago I did not realize there was cotton yarn that was actually soft. My cotton experience was limited to sugar and cream and peaches and cream, which I've always used for dishcloths. I am lucky enough now that my budget allows for more "friendly" cotton yarns. 😃
I must be like you as well because so many others don't mind the roughness of Peaches & Crème and the scrubby yarn. I could not work with them no matter how great the finished product would be! 🧶🧶🧶
I walk the Walmart yarn aisle every time I’m at the store. Peaches and cream is a kitchen cotton, only use it for kitchen projects. There are things to get there and things to avoid but it is a great place for budget friendly projects. It is also a good place to begin any craft.
My family swears by the scrubbies I make! I always bring my scrubby yarn bag with me to family gatherings. A round scrubbie takes me about 20 minutes to make, and that yarn comes in a million colorways. The lack of stitch definition isn’t a problem for this application. Also, Peaches and Cream is great for bathmats.
What’s funny is I think it’s actually a bit softer (enough that you can tell using it) than the Lily Sugar N Cream. I love cotton yarn in general and definitely prefer softer ones like the Hobby Lobby I Love this Cotton. I don’t go to Walmart often of have one in my town but now I want to look for the mainstay cotton to try. But I love the Peaches & Cream in the big spools for dish cloths and sturdy tote and market bags.
Omg guys that red heart all on one granny square is on clearance for only four bucks 😮😮I got a bunch and I’m not sure but they store price says 7 and change but when I rang them up they were four bucks y’all if u like u 🏃♀️💨
I use Peaches and Cream yarn for making mesh style market bags, and I use them for yarn storage and project bags for bigger projects. I always choose very silly color combos, and so much fun to making them :-)
I enjoy watching your videos. My mother taught me how to knit when I was a young girl and I actually taught myself how to crochet. I have made baby blankets for so many friends and family. It is so wonderful to hear that my blankets were being passed down to their grandchildren.
I knitted 7 scrubby yarn cloths about 2 years back. I haven't bought one of those dish sponges or brushes since then. I have a chain mail scrubber (for cast iron) and these cloths. We wash all our dishes by hand and at the end of each day toss the cloth in the wash and get a new one in the morning. I am not wasting any money on sponges that harbour bacteria and end up in landfill ever again. It's a bit of a beast to knit with. I used a linen stitch to hurry it up, but it's been so worth it.
The Peaches and Cream used to be referred to as "kitchen cotton". I use it for dish cloths. Ive notced some colors are softer than others. I have also made market bags with it! Their Stripy version is alot softer! Ive made bandanas out of it. The Red Heart Scrubby is not fun to crochet with. I dont mind knitting "scrubbies" with it. Or combining it with a strand of cotton to make a dishcloth! I have never bought it at full price...only on sale, lol!!! Thanks Elise! Always enjoy your content!
i never thought that Walmart would have so many items to crochet with! good job! you always put a smile on my face! thank you and keep the good work up!
I use the Peaches and Cream for pot holders, dishcloths, coasters and other things. It never stretches out and it softens up some when washed. I also put a label on my stuff that says to wash with like colors or by hand. They fly off the tables at my booth.
Thanks for sharing! I bet people would really want to buy them! The colors are gorgeous! My poor hands couldn't handle working with the yarn though! Glad it works great for you! 🍑🍑🍑
I saw a video recently where a woman crocheted a handbag using a sparkley scrub yarn and damn if that purse didn’t look chic and avant garde. It reminded me of something you’d see a NYC club goer would wear, it was kind of amazing. It was a great reminder to try to think outside of the box with some of these yarns!
Peaches and Cream is only for dishcloths and scrubbies. It is unbelievably good for the purpose it made for. It really can't be used for any of the crocheting you do. Scrubby yarn is purpose built again. Great learning experience for you. Try making some scrubbies and washcloths and you will love both of them.
Why not for market bags, pot holders and other such non-wearable things? I used Peaches & Cream to make a largish cat toy, and it doesn't show any wear and tear two years later despite all the vigorous rough housing by mo son's cats.
@@oakstrong1 cat toys are a great idea. My brother has cats. I will have to try that. I have made chair feet from it and am wear testing them on wood floors at this time as well. The cat feet and chicken feet patterns were too much to pass up.
People making kitchen scrubbies love it. You are judging this yarn based on crocheting amigurumi. It would never work for that, I agree. However it is awesome for making scrubbies!! I love it.
No, I wasn't judging it off of making amigurumi. I realize it's for dishcloths but I really really didn't like the feeling of it and couldn't imagine making dish cloths with it. I was also pretty surprised how expensive the yarn is as well! But I am glad to learn that others do like it! 🧶💙😊
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my comment. I love all of your programming! You have been a great help to me in my Amigurumi journey. I look forward to spending lots more time with you! p.s. I made so many "dishcloths and scrubbies before I ever discovered amigurumi that I guess I got used to the yarn. It is not the easiest yarn to work with, for sure!😉
I hate RH Scrubby yarn. I do not have overly sensitive hands, but this stuff feels like "spiky garbage" for sure! The outcome is definitely not worth the pain IMO. Really interesting to see someone who genuinely enjoys working with it, it makes true the statement "there's something for everyone"!
I have used the peaches and cream yarn for home projects and it was great! I used it to make a fruit hammock, bag savers for me and for my parents, and reusable cotton rounds. I thought it worked great for all of those projects.
Every time I google a question about starting crocheting, all your videos pop up lol. Thank you for all of your insight!!! You’ve made the start process ALOT easier
Perhaps this has been said already BUT….the peaches and cream colors are EXCELLENT for making wash cloths for dishes! Not the scrubbies since they really need the rougher scratchier type yarn. So far they haven’t bled but with some colors I would definitely rinse the item in a weak vinegar and water solution to set the color after I’ve finished crocheting it. I’ve made quite a few dish washcloths with a little loop on one corner and so far there haven’t been any complaints! Anyway just saying……….
Interesting reviews. Our Walmart put lots of Pioneer Woman products on clearance and I fell for the pretty rotary cutter! I’ve taken out the blade and put in my regular cutter and avoided the other clearance offers! I’m not surprised you found the yarn so so! My husband watched the last bit of the review and couldn’t understand why the P W crochet hooks weren’t marked when I explained the difference! Love the show and thanks for reviewing the yarns
I really like peaches and cream. My favorite for “knitting” washcloths. I do agree that there is no slip to the yarn and can feel string-like but it’s perfect for washcloths.
Thank you for being so honest in your reviews. Sometimes we get too influenced by the latest trend such as Pioneer Woman. I know some people love everything she puts out (like my daughter) so it is refreshing to hear a candid response. I have been to her hometown, Pawhuska, OK where she has a store and a restaurant. It was jam packed but unfortunately very expensive!
In my experience with the scrubby yarn, if you combine it with a soft cotton yarn the results are great. The scrubby is sturdy and still cleans your non-stick pot well. Makes crocheting with the scrubby much easier.
I'm on a tight budget so those are really the only yarns I use I've never been able to see how nice the expensive yarns are. We make it work thanks for sharing your opinion
The scrubby yarn, the only way I can use it is when I put it with a strand of basic cotton in order to see my stitches. I made a scrubby washcloth for my bathroom and I like using it that way. Otherwise it is terrible.
Since I work there, I got my starting gear at Walmart. After I was sure I enjoy crochet, I started getting my yarn (except for if I just need 1-2 things of Lion Brand) elsewhere, since Peaches and Cream really wasn't my jam and most of the other offerings just aren't what I'm looking for. Still use the solid metal hooks I started with, they feel great in my hands and I don't like the textured grips a lot of people go for. What I'm trying to say is, thank you for testing these out! A lot of people assume nothing good comes out of Walmart but it's sometimes easier to access than big craft stores, and it's important to know what your options are in that case.
Peaches & cream is tough to work with but gets softer when washed. I have used the scrubby with cotton which is easier but I am not a huge fan. Thanks for your reviews and whomever wins the neck light will be so blessed!
You are so funny when you don't like something! I love your honesty! I just found your video by scrolling through RU-vid. I know how to crochet, but I knit mostly. I'll watch your videos again!
I use the mandala bonus yarns at Walmart to do the Montego shawl by Toni Lipsy because one cake will make a big shawl. Making them for the ladies at church. I have made like 5-6 of them so far.
As someone who just finished a 16" snail amigurumi plush using only peaches and creme...I feel seen with all that drag. I wanted something nice and stiff since it would be a decoration piece for my partner's shelf and the colorway was so nice (and it was all just sitting in my inherited stash with no use), but it hurt my hands so bad. Especially when I got to all the decreases...ouch. Wouldn't do it again but I can definitely see it being nice for purposefully rough things like washcloths!
Yes, scrubby is difficult to work with but the end result is fantastic! Same for peaches and cream. I buy that for when I need stiff cotton for coasters or kitchen items. Works better than the softer ones. Each yarn is for different uses. I love them.
I love the peaches and cream yarn. It makes the best dish cloths. Also, I have the Pioneer Woman needle case with the steel hooks and aluminum hooks. I absolutely love those as well!
I found myself laughing so hard when you were trying the scrubby stuff. My mom LOVES it. I HATE it. So nice to have someone that feels the same. This was helpful. Thank you.
Puzzle yarn is a personal favorite, I made a light blue cardigan and it is my favorite thing to wear in the winter. I also made my grandma a pink scarf and matching mittens. She loved them
The scrubby yarn is absolutely fantastic to make pot scrubbies. I also use the scrubbies to make a larger scrubbie and use it to remove bugs or that nasty tree sap from the car (it doesn't scratch the paint)
I absolutely love the creative options rack system! I actually have two different sizes and I use them for beads but they are so portable. I loved the way you organized it too!
I always can get the Mandala Ombre on sale at Walmart actually all of their Mandala yarn is usually much cheaper than the other yarn stores. I absolutely love crocheting with them!
Walmart had great finds. I buy my Mandala yarn there because it's around $3/skein cheaper that Joann's or Michael's. And the Mainstays yarn works up great too. It softens up when you wash it.
I love when people do reviews. Thank you. I'm a slow functional crocheter, but am determined to improve! Ive really only ever used Peaches & Cream and Super Saver. The peaches & cream made a great market tote. Im going to have to branxh out on my yarn selections. Thanks again
I have an explanation for the pioneer woman situation. As a former Walmart employee, this stuff didn’t come in a display unit, it came individually in brown boxes. There was a period of time where this was on an endcap (end of isle in front) as a feature, but right now is back to school season so most endcaps are now all back to school and children’s items
I use Peaches and Cream for dish cloths or hot pads. I use a smaller hook. The scrubby yarn is perfect for dry scrubbies for farm fresh eggs. It isn’t terrible. If you use a moss stitch you can see your stitches.
@@Ebostic711 my chicken farmers love the scrubbies. It removes the dirt but keeps the bloom. Some sell their eggs at farmers markets and people love that they are clean but still has the bloom
@@EliseRoseCrochet oh. I am not saying it’s comfortable to work with. It’s scratchy for sure, but it’s scrubby yarn. It’s supposed to have a rough texture. And that brand of scrubby yarn is better than off brands. ☺️
I love red heart scrubby yarn! It makes best kitchen scrubbies I've ever use, very durable, easy to clean, safe for any kitchen ware. But, I agree that it's very hard to crochet with, so I only knit with this yarn.
I used peaches and cream for my pot when I make flower coasters. It holds up to make a very good pot. The thing is everything I've used from Walmart has been great. When it comes to the acrylic you have to wash it because it has something on it but as soon as you wash it it becomes really soft.
I have the Pioneer crochet hooks. They do have sizes towards bottom, but they are inverted into hook. Place a piece of paper over bottom & use a pencil to run back & forth to reveal hook size.
I put my stitch markers that are like safety pins on a metal circle. I bought a plastic lunch type box for my notions. I put my tapestry needles in little tubes with a screw on lids. There is a small section for tape measures. A lift out section who’s has scissors and crochet hooks that I’m currently using on the projects I’m working. Everyone always know I probably have something they need when I’m at the crochet and knitting groups that I belong to.
I use plastic pill bottles that prescription come in. For yarn sewing needles. Piins and thread sewing needles in the cases from needles at the local lab. Two maybe three fit in one plii box. The boxes may shatter, that's why I put the sharps in the lillies cases when travelling. Safety. And Recycling. Win.
The mainstays velvet yarn (6 or 7 weight. idr) (only online now i think) is the softest thing i've ever touched. I made a jumbo dragon and owl and i love it! barely any shedding, super smooth to work with. it only comes in a few colors, but it's worth a try for velvet and chenille lovers
Unfortunately i avoid pioneer woman because her family was buyers during the Reign of Terror for the Osage people. Basically, her husbands family was participating in what was happening in the movie Killer of The Flower Moon. I dont judge people who like her content/products because almost all rich families participated in displacing indigenous people from their homelands, but as someone whos native its hard for me to support her. Theres a Vanity Fair article about it called "The Strange but True Story of the Pioneer Woman’s Link to Killers of the Flower Moon" if anyone is curious
@@smithkk89 look into it if you're curious! I hate raining on parades but i try to bring it to light when its relevant. It was her husbands family, but she def still benefits
@@smithkk89 and honestly, it's nearly impossible to be fully conscious with our wallets. All we can do is try and put effort into causes we're passionate about!
That Peaches and Cream I have done the multi colors and the purples and blues will come off on my hands. I have washed the one with the speckles and it blended together. I use it for bucket hats and market bags and pot holders.
I remember going to Walmart a few years ago for crochet supplies, and there was always a decent selection of at least acrylic yarn and notions to choose from. Now every Walmart I go to seems to have a very limited end cap of yarns and far fewer colors if they’re even there. 🤷♀️
I taught myself crochet on RU-vid, then tried the same with knitting. It was very hard, a gave up. Years later I came back for another try and figured it out. Because I crochet I hold the working yarn in the wrong hand and it’s wonky to get going. For that reason I can appreciate the crunch and drag of peaches and cream. When you’re clueless it sticks to the hook like accidental grace you need when learning. 😂 After two successful projects break up with it and find a better cotton. 😂😂
Girl, if you want to make pot scrubbers it'll probably chew up your fingers just as bad but Red heart super saver. That's all. I use it for making pot scrubbers that I can put in the washing machine. As far as that peaches and cream goes, that's just Walmart branded sugar and cream which is also like trying to knit or crochet with rope stuff's terrible
So hear me out, I definitely know what you mean about the peaches and cream original solids.. HOWEVER, try their stripey line! I used it for washcloths (tunisian crochet, thank you T.L.!!) And it's SOOOOO soft, especially in comparison! I have and love some Pioneer Woman bakeware and dishes, but that yarn was a hard pass for me at the store. Just holding it, you can tell how cheap it is. I'm surprised at the missing sizes on the hooks tho... they are so pretty, it's a shame.
Thanks for doing reviews. I look at so many items when I shop and my budget does not allow for me to purchase items to test. Reviews help guide me for future purchases.
I feel like the reason the scrubby yarn has such good reviews is because it would be so much easier to knit with it compared to crochet. I do both knit and crochet and stitch definition doesn’t matter as much in knitting as it does for crochet, considering the needle helps to show you the stitches. It does matter with some stitches but it doesn’t matter that much with garter and purl. We don’t have any red heart in my country , but I’d love to try it someday! Love from Ireland ❤
The plastic tote is just a fishing tackle box in another color. You can purchase them cheaper as tackle box. They even have tackle boxes for women in non men colors. The pioneer woman stuff is awful. It is already gone at my Walmart and the yarn went down to 3.00 per skein before it was gone. The crochet hooks still have not sold and they are marked down real cheap.
3:08 "There are a lot better yarns in this price range." Um Ok- think you could name those yarns for us??? I don't find many yarns in the $2 price range at all, let alone good ones. So please, share your secrets with us.
That second case you opened looks exactly like the one I inherited from my mom, the only difference being the color on the case of yours was floral, whilst mine was a soft blue solid. So, it looks like they just sold a standard set with a different colored case.
The scrubby yarn is great! Perfect for what it's designed for - scrubbing dishes. And if you think that stuff is scratchy you've clearly never worked with strips of fabric netting - it makes great scrubbies but years up your hands.
Sorry you were disappointed with some of your crochet purchases. Working with cotton yarn is not my thing-it splits too much-but when you were using the scrubby yarn, it looked like you were trying to crochet with barbed wire. If I wanted to make a dishcloth, I’d make it out of the Peaches and Cream-even though the splitting is annoying, it would make a good sturdy dishcloth and you wouldn’t need medical attention for your hands
I just bought a skein of sea-blue/green, chunky yarn at Walmart, to make an octopus for my daughter. As a beginner (only a month here), this is the best yarn I've used. I have been able to stitch this project by feel, rather than sight, using this yarn.
I \always/ give Peaches and Concrete (coined by Juan the Yarn Addict) a vinagar and Epsom salt soak (30 min+) after finishing a project. I knit this yarn as crocheting it is a serious struggle (as you found). I even tried running it through my king addi knitting machine thinking it wouldn't take as much time to work up by hand plus having a double knit thick towel/trivet would be a bonus feature. My machine pined and groaned the whole while. It didn't pass all stitches so there was a lot of running stitches back to correct them. My king addi hates (strong word there) concrete cotton too. I then ran the cotton through my small 24 pro addi and it worked up nicely in the round. It power curled knitting it flat but didn't miss a stitch. I'd either make two tubes and stitch them together lengthwise or make flat and pick up stitches all around and make a mitered rib or garter stitch to help flatten the working. Keep in mind the stitches are loose (like working up on 7-8 mm needles) There's a red white and blue varigated out there. Not sure if p&c or sugar and something but I knit a small project and gave it a soak. I thought the water would be red upon my return. NOPE!! It was BLUE!!! I was shocked by this. Concrete cotton color dyes cannot be trusted! I bought two cones of r/w/b to make a loose basic beach cover up. Naive I was! Not happenin' capin'! I've knit trivets and bar towels from it as the blue bleeds too much to trust for a garment or coaster. *I could only imagine donning the item with damp bathing suit under and sit leaving blue dye blotches when getting back up.* I wouldn't make a garment from any of it as it's so hard on my hands. There are so many pretty enticing colors out there. Not all bleed as bad as others. I do \highly/ recommend a strong vinegar/Epsom salt bath with any color and would not leave a wet towel or trivet lay on any surface with the fear of color transfer. I love your honesty. I love your advice. Thank you for being here. ❤ My apologies for rambling on.
