I’m a 8 1/2 in the Carlos Santos Field Boot (Dark Brown Suede/Brown Calf) (Love love love these boots! The fit is spot on for me). What size would I be in the Coniston? And in the Molton?

Hi Jacob! As they are more casual heavier boots it’s more likely you would wear them with thicker socks. If that is the case I would take your regular UK size in both! So if you sized down half to 8.5 for the Santos boot I would probably take 9 for a comfortable fit on the Crocketts. If you want a snugger fit on the Coniston you can go down to 8.5 but the Molton has a shorter more blunt toe box and your feet will be quite near the edge. For that I recommend 9 if everything I said above stands!

Great video. The rough-out suede looks a really nice material for this sort of boot. I have a couple of small questions....how high/tall are these boots from the ground to the top? Also, how heavy is a single boot? They look very chunky. There is no information on the Crockett and Jones website unfortunately.

I don’t have them with me to check. They are same as a standard boot like a Chelsea. Sorry I can’t be more help right now. They are not extremely heavy, but they aren’t lightweight either.

@@MisiuAcademy Hi again. I reached out to C+J and they messaged me back. They advised that a UK size 8 is 17cm tall and weighs approximately 825 grams. The specification is very similar to my Sanders Craig boots in waxed suede. It would be very interesting to compare them 🤔

They will be fine! All you really need is a suede brush and eraser.

I'm thinking about getting one like these but I have a hard time finding how they look after 3-4 years of wear. I do like how it looks here, it's rough and tough but not too much. I feel after some wear it would look a bit too beaten up, like I just put a pair of work boots from the construction site if I can exaggerate a bit... I would imagine you can rewax this to bring it back new-ish look?

This is the point with these shoes, that they develop a natural patina and wear. If you take care of them and use shoe trees they should be fine.

Hi James, this was not a personal pair but rather a showcase for my shop. Roughout suede tends to patina and develop a lot. It’s quality leather they will look great.

Hi Michael! You only need a suede brush and a suede eraser and that’s it! No spray needed!

Just like the veldschoen construction both the welt and uppers are folded outwards :) that’s why you see that strip on the top too. thanks for watching!

I have two pairs of coniston: the tan scotch one dark brown. Was briefly considering this one, until I saw some pictures on Instagram of ages version of this leather. To me, it develops too much character, which I don’t like. There are some dealers who offer the boot in black, do you know how they do it? Is it specially made for them?

Hi Christian, this is a special leather for sure. Some people absolutely love the wear and tear. Some don't. Check my Instagram post @thenobleshoe today to see how nice the Tan Grain pair looks! Some retailers might have special deals or make ups for them indeed. Crockett & Jones also has some official colors of different shoes that are not available.

I’m confused about “roughout suede.” Is it roughout or suede? I’ve never heard of roughout being referred to as suede. I thought suede was leather that has been split down the middle. So the term “roughout suede” gives me the impression that it’s suede with the reverse side out. But this doesn’t make sense to me. Why would they do that? Maybe just to have a more supple leather? I don’t know why they wouldn’t just do an actual roughout. It would be much more durable and would last much longer. It is also possible that it is true roughout and they are using the term “suede” to refer to the fact that roughout has a nap so as to make it easier for the consumer to understand the texture of the leather.

Hi Tony, as far as I understand they apply the wax afterwards but I am not 100% sure. It makes them very durable at the front areas with a rougher nap.

would you say that this roughout suede leather is sturdier (harder to dent by pushing your finger on the toe) than the pebble leather ones? Are they heavier in weight?

Hello, hard to say. I would say it’s a little more durable since it’s meant to patina! Weight depends on the sole.

Actually how narrow are these at the toes? I have the Chelsea XI in the same last so I imagine the fit would be the same, or would this be rounder since it is a boot. I do have a mind to try out the roughout Coniston....

@@MisiuAcademy Gah, then that toe is ever so slightly too narrow for me. I prefer rounder toes like on the Trickers, which I assume is also similar on the Islays. Just that the cap toe style is what I am looking for.

I don’t know, I find the 325 quite a roomy medium round last with a spacious forefoot. Haven’t tried the Chelsea 9 though

If you don’t have similar boots I would always start with the dark brown grain!

@@MisiuAcademy thank you! I tired these on several times and find the 9 UK is snug but with room in the toes. The 8.5 UK I could feel a bit of pressure just walking in the store with them. Would they stretch to the point where the 9 would feel too large? Or that the 8.5 would stretch to fit much better?

Leather will stretch only if you push it. So if the fit is fine, it won’t stretch or very little. Size 9 sounds like the correct one to me. You don’t want pressure. It’s ok for the toes to have room.

Since it has such a nonexistent short nap I don’t thing it’s a problem really. Ideally some suede brush would be best I suppose.

Heavy on the foot and so far I haven’t broken them in . Every time I take them off is a relief .

It’s a taller boot, of course it will be heavier. From here and without any data it sounds like the wrong size though

Ah. A general consensus is that if it’s painful, it’s the wrong size. If it’s snug, it’s ok. Don’t lace them too tightly if it’s constricting
