These are absolutely stunning! I have the standard paperbacks, but I'm thinking of getting the collector's edition for Shadow and Bone because I don't own that one yet, and I don't want to buy books again I already own (unfortunate because these are really worth it).

I feel like I absolutely need those, ma it would be the 4th pair of copies I own, different editions of the same two books 😂 already got the hardcover, the softcover and the version translated in my mother tongue 😅 though how can I live without the drawings in the back!

It's a fun series - a combination of gritty action / fantasy heist with memorable anti-hero characters. (It's often marketed as YA, but only because the main characters are teenagers.)

Murasaki & Co Yes, YA can unfortunately be a genre where you have to pick wisely - some of those ones with all the instalove or silly love triangles and poor editing are terrible - but these just read like a great fantasy novel 😀

They look really lovely, but i'm wondering what the paper quality is like? Nicer paper is a big selling point for me, and i can never tell in video's or pictures if these special edition have nicer paper or not. The Throne of Glass & ACOTAR collector's editions for example have reaaaally nice paper :-)

The paper quality for the text of the book is pretty standard for this edition. However, the artwork at the end of the book is printed on higher quality paper (definitely thicker, slightly whiter/glossier) so the illustrations look great. Hope that helps 😁

No, these ones only come 'naked' with no jackets. (I agree, the original jacket covers have awesome artwork!) I sometimes make replacement dust jackets for books i've found in op shops by borrowing them from a library and photocopying the jacket, and you could try something similar for these? You might have to play around with a bit of resizing but I think it would work ツ

Hi. It's a bit late but is the black paint on the edges of the pages coming off? Mine is and it's staining my fingers. I don't know if it's because it's a fresh copy or if the one I received is counterfeit.

I know this is an old video but do you happen to know if they are the same as the US collectors editions?

The only collector’s editions for these titles published at the moment are the UK ones, so if you purchase them in the States this is what you’ll get. However, for Shadow & Bone there are different US and UK editions - the UK edition of that book matches the style in this video (with blue foiling on the cover), while the US edition of Shadow & Bone has a different style cover, slipcase, etc. Hope that helps 😀

Six of Crows comes first, then Crooked Kingdom. The books are also set in the set in the same world as the author's "Grisha Trilogy", but you don't need to have read them first.

No, these editions are "naked hardbacks" with the design printed directly on the boards and no dust jackets.

Do I have to read all the books of shadow and bone to understand six of crows ? Or is one of them is enough.. if yes, which one

You can definitely read these without having read any of the Shadow and Bone series, and although they are set in the same ‘universe” as the other Grisha books, reading the first book in this series (Six of Crows) won’t spoil anything for you if you want to go back and read the Shadow and Bone seres later. The second book (Crooked Kingdom) does bring in some characters from the Shadow and Bone trilogy, so you could read those before Crooked Kingdom if you want to avoid spoilers, but you don't need to because these two make complete sense as a duology on their own 😀

It depends what you mean by beginner… Hopefully some may answer here with more ESL experience than I have, but the reading level is advertised as being suitable for late primary, so I would say it’s probably intermediate level?

It depends on your reading level - from your comment here I would think it would be fine. (Also, there is a German edition - das lied de krähen - so you could read them in parallel - I find that's a good way for me to check meaning when I'm reading in a second language!)

The 1st edition hardbacks do have chapter heading illustrations, but not the extra art. I don't know if the paperbacks or later editions have the headings though.
