You may not have planned to set up a learning channel for farmers, but I like seeing how you do things. My first field of tomatoes is at 12 weeks after transplant. bhn602s get about chest high. I want to bring them in without overwatering and we're getting a cool wet May. Basically I've had the water down low and the beds under the mulch are dry 12 inches from the tape. I increased water this week by 30%, still 30% below my normal max. Wondering how you would look at this on your operation? Getting rain is almost worse than droughts (except for the high heat). Thanks.
Knowing how much to water has always been an issue for me, especially when it’s raining often. It takes a lot of trial and error to see what’s best. Soil types play a big role in this. I always try to stay on a schedule and not vary from it too much, especially during fruit set. Obviously, if it’s raining a lot then I would cut it off.
@@ryanfarmsproduce Agreed. Stay on a schedule, at least if the ship goes down you can say you were consistent at it. We have heavy clay. Even if it rains now, it would have to be a lot before I stop irrigating. Good luck.
