Cool pictures. My Grandad was the architect of those baths, I’ve got some cool old drawings of the plans for it somewhere and the library/civic hall in Waterloo 👍
Designed by an “architect “ who insisted that the pool should be in feet and inches, rather than metric so it couldn’t be used for major competitions. No idea on ventilation, heating and avoiding the buildup of condensation. The cost of heating and general maintenance was astronomical.
Does anyone else remember the chip machine in the late 60s/early 70s? It was always breaking as I remember but when it did work there was always a crowd round it to watch it make chips! Simpler times! Though I'm beginning to think I imagined it
so sad to see it knocked down it was a real bit of architecture and enjoyed going there in the 1970s ,10 meter board for the brave, 50 meter pool and the only downside was it was actually a saltwater pool and stung your eyes a bit
Learnt to swim in infant pool here as a nipper.then always get the bus from litherland with my mates of a weekend and swim in the big pool until your colour wristband had run out of time....Happy days...Great post...thanks
