Stephen Stills would have to be one of the most underrated and talented musicians that ever lived.....if not the most. His guitar work and tone is magnificent and does it all from picking, bluegrass, rock and the most lush, dirtiest blues tones I have ever heard. And the smokey smooth voice. Truly love this guy, an absolute legend. What a legacy he has left, one that will never be equalled
Holy Hell. How can 1990 be 30 years ago? These guys were, are and always will be great. And in January 2020 there are 7 nitwits and counting who have clicked dislike. Don't know whether to feel pity or disdain for them.
Around 2005 I have the fortune to see Nash and Crosby at a very tight small theater in Solvang CA. Sitting on first row and some 30 feet away I had the best concert of my life, I missed Stills thou.
I agree with Jimi Page- Stephen Stills the greatest acoustic guitar player I'm America after a Hotel Room jam on a Zepp tour. Page also expressed that there are so few artist's releasing one masterpiece after another. He was referring to Joni Mitchell. She introduced there guys. Stills solo, CSN full band 7 nights at (The Fillmore) CSN Friends of the River benefit (Warfield)A Crosby on 🔥 show. Hitting notes that are still sailing somewhere 30 years later. Nash is so key to these guys. The glue. Live these guys are always good for a tear, a cheer and a bounce in your step for days after.
Luv this performance. The trio was perfection, I don't think neil young was really necessary, considering all the trouble and drama he brought with him.
Not under rated at all ,Stills has his little square that he excels in , his guitar work on Beatles ,”Blackbird , is ok but falls well short of Paul Mcartney s original ,but a great acoustic player all the same
A lot of music and musicians came to life in the 60's... a LOT. These men were and still are in a class by themselves, and they make it look so easy. Awe inspiring.
Was able to see them live, and then with Neil. Goes back to the Buffalo Springfield, which I was also be Leased to see live. Music was from a different time, and will never be recreated or revisited. Amen to the 60’s and 70’s. 🙏👍
This classic tune came from Stephen Stills broken heart because Judy Collins , whom had the blue eyes that he sings about. Stephen is such a talented musician!!!
Imho, this glorious music has way more depth than "our house", about another break-up. Judy, Stephen and their spouses are all friends, Stephen and Judy played recently at an aarp convention, I think it was in fla. 🎵🎶🎵 ☺
I can 't believe this wasn't this year. I've seen them 9 times & they always bring it & more. Guys we want you back now.. Apologize & live on together. You're a perfect love story & with all that's going on in the world, we need you back to believe again!!!! Please come home.
Stephen Stills is one of the best acoustic guitar players I've ever heard.... he has amazing skills, and he's a great singer/songwriter as well, just the complete package.
Open tunings, choir boy singing, great multi -part song-writing, charismatic superstars (Neil somewhere out there). dozens, maybe 100 terrific songs amount the crew together and apart. American Beatles? Much more than that. Timeless legends.
Graham looks at David and emphasizes when he sings “don’t let the past remind us of what we are not now”...... Graham was supposedly a wonderful friend to all of the guys. The glue that held them together.
This is so good. I only wish i had got into CSN years ago.Im very tunnel visioned when i comes to music. Today i have them playing in three separate areas in my home .Cant get enough. Making up for lost time.☘
When music and songs makes you laugh and cry from the magnificence, skill, beauty, poignancy and realization that you have been with these guys from the very beginning and it just keeps getting better decades later, THAT'S the best. Thanks!
"My song", sung by my guys,( who I LOVE more than my own little life). So freakin' PERFECT. INCENDIARY. BEYOND BEAUTIFUL. And Stills guitar playing. OMG! My EX musician boyfriend use to say "He's just playing "slop" " , at this part. Oh, R E A L L Y ??? I would ALWAYS answer, "Matt, you incredible idiot", until I finally X ed him out of my world.
I was just watching this on TV, the Woodstock directors cut, and singing along as usual when I realized that either I was messing up or Stephen was. So I played it back and sure enough, Stephen DOES mess up. He forgot the words " voices of the angels" and instead sang " lacy lilting ladies" twice. I've never caught that til today. Probably cuz I'm always singing at the top of my lungs with the boys whenever this is playing. Hey, I freakin' get it. They WERE nervous as hell. It's one of my favorite performances of this song regardless of the mix up. Just wondered if any of my utube compadres caught this too. I know my boys were nervous, but to play and sing and sound that frickin' good, with all their musical peers lurking in the background, wondering if they could pull it off LIVE, well, to me that just proves how magnificent they all were from the word GO. I LOVE MY BOYS, all 4 of them.(Yes, Neil was there too) I begged to go to Woodstock with my girlfriend, but I was 15, a sweet and innocent, cute and virginal, country girl who had never been more than 20 miles from home, ever. I can still hear my mom screaming " NO, NO, NO!! WHAT ARE YOU, NUTS? YOU RHINK IM GONNA LET MY BEAUTIFUL BABY DAUGHTRR GO WHERE THERE'S GONNA BE SEX CRAZED BOYS AND ROCK AND ROLL MUSICIANS ALL DOPED UP ON POT??? ARE YOU NUTS?!?! Yep. All these years later and I can hear her like it was yesterday. I think it was either WLS in Chicago or WOKY in Milwaukee that played the whole 3 days of music on their stations. So I sat glued to my radio for the whole 3 days and attended Woodstoock like that. But I still regret not being able to go.
'It's getting to the point where I'm no fun anymore I am sorry Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud I am lonely I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard Remember what we've said and done And felt about each other Oh, babe have mercy Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now I am not dreaming I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Tearing yourself away from me now you are free And I am crying This does not mean I don't love you I do, that's forever Yes and for always I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret Are you still listening? Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart And I love you I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard And you make it hard And you make it hard And you make it hard Friday evening Sunday in the afternoon What have you got to lose? Tuesday morning Please, be gone, I'm tired of you What have you got to lose? Can I tell it like it is? (Help me, I'm sufferin') And listen to me baby It's my heart that's a-sufferin', it's a-dyin' (Help me, I'm dyin') And that's what I have to lose (To lose) I've got an answer I'm going to fly away What have I got to lose? Will you come see me Thursdays and Saturdays? (Hey, hey, hey) What have you got to lose? Chestnut brown canary Ruby throated sparrow Sing a song, don't be long Thrill me to the marrow Voices of the angels Ring around the moonlight Asking me, said she's so free How can you catch the sparrow? Lacy lilting lady Losing love lamenting Change my life, make it right Be my lady Qué linda, me la traie a Cuba La reina de la Mar Caribe Cielo, sol, no llega tarde aquí Y qué triste que no puedo bailar, oh va, oh va' ❤
This brings back so many happy memories of the music, the band, the times and the era that formed the foundation to the rest of my life. Superb. R.I.P. David Crosby. And sincere thanks to Stephen, Graham and Neil for their gifts to us in their music, both combined and individually. 👍😎🇳🇿🎸🌹✨
To me it looked like they might have had a quarrel with Croz before, so he was acting even more reduced as usual. But voicelike he is the one who holds it all together. Always.
It looks to me like Graham is NOT happy w/ David the first couple of verses? He keeps shooting him looks and then motions upwards with both hands. Crosby is either flat or Nash doesn’t like his effort level? To the point that he goes over to the same mic. They all have ego, but from things that I’ve seen Graham is the guy who is trying the hardest to preserve the aura/legacy of CSN. In a way the same as Macca wanted to preserve The Beatles
I was fortunate to see these guys in san Antonio at the Majestic Theater in '99. The acoustics in that place is astounding and CS&N sounded great. They kept going on about how great the Majestic was.
Laßt mich in eurem Bunde sein der Vierte. Nur für einmal. Euer Gesang ist wie aus einer anderen Welt. Überirdisch... David, Rest in Peace and Look upon your Friends
I tell myself that it was dark and Stephen couldn't see my GREEN eyes clearly, but he still wrote the world's best love song to me!! (Oh, I know!) And I love the song Judy sang back to him in response, " Someday Soon". Even tho she didn't write it the words are perfect. I absolutely adore these guys and this one, beautiful, guy in particular. Love affair going on 56 yrs and counting. In my world, there just is no one better. 💘 Love you guys, forever!!!
Steven I was thinking the same thing! Such an intimate unique concert! Raw and "real" and that's what made it an absolute treasure! I am just glad we at least a copy to listen to now in 2022 when the vast majority if their "original" fans now in their 70's!
Over the decades he's shown his share of vanity, but what artistic genius hasn't? There are 'good musicians' & 'good vocalists' but his writing & arrangements are ingenious, accompanied by his incredible voice, a trained musical instrument of the highest order, along with his excellent guitar playing qualifies him for extra credit in my book, & though he may have treated himself to more liberties than many, in his later years he has come to an acute understanding of love and has matured greatly.
Does anyone know what Stephen is singing @ the End? Translation please...plus, his voice sounds hoarse, not quite right on. &, I love the Takamine he’s using. I’ve seen it over the years, in place of the Martin he’s usually used. He uses this same tuning for 4 + 20. Said he learned it from Bruce Palmer.
That was nice of him to give the credit to Bruce. When I was a kid Bruce was our neighbor for awhile in a shitty apartment building in North Hollywood. My dad was a long time friend of Dewey before Buffalo Springfield when he had a band called Sir Raleigh And The Coupons. There were a few of the musically inclined that would jam with them in that crappy apt., up at Peter's in Laurel Canyon and over on Old Topanga. They were all, the future famous and the future unfamous, teaching and learning from each other. I spent many hours at 10 and 11 years old knowing that I was the witness to greatness, and I still get emotional thinking about it all. Thanks Dad!
One of my favourite songs, by one of my favourite bands. I don't think this is anywhere near their best performance, but it's still very good. The people who say Stills is one of the best / most underated guitarists hmmm obviously don't play guitar. It sounds amazing for one guitar, but that is mostly down to the tuning which is very clever and sounds great just strumming it open without holding any notes down on the fretboard. Then by very simple two note fingerings, all the way up the fretboard it allows fantastic harmonics and chord shapes. But technically it is actually quite easy to play, as are all of CSN songs. There are lots of absolutely amazing guitarists playing extremely difficult to play (technically) stuff, but this is not one of them. Songwriting amazing, harmonies incredible, but the guitar as good as it sounds, is quite basic and easy to play technically. If you think I'm being harsh, watch Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) performing live playing his 'Never Going Back gain'. Now THAT is difficult to play.
Wish I had some orange sunshine right now listening to them.....lol. My all time favorite group. Most of their music is well, so together. Enjoy their music, it is some of the best stuff ever created.
Smashing performance. I also love how they interact with the audience. 21 years after Woodstock, Stills and Crosby had gotten fat, and Nash had gone to the wrong hairdresser. But their energy and accuracy were unmatched.
