It took me a long time to distinguish Crosby's voice when they go into 3 parts. Nash is easy to seperate, its Stills and Crosby that seem to blend. Even though Crosby is in what the critics call "zombie mode" here, he doesn't miss a note, and his intonation is near perfect. This dude could sing, perhaps even when he was high as a kite. RIP, a truly great harmony singer
I don't know how anyone can even tell if he's making any noise with the stash. He seemed to be out of it the whole show. It sounded nice though even if it was only 2.5 voices.
@yootoob20011957 Here is a specific example where if you listen very carefully you can distinguish the 3 parts. And yes, I had to use visual clues to get it, mustache be damned. Voices of the angels (Stills) ring around the moonlight (Stills and Nash) asking me, etc (all 3) Really focus on the timbre of Stills' voice on ring around the moonlight and track it to the next phrase. Crosby's part on "asking me etc" is the low one, which really blends with the guitar. This is at 06:40. Elsewhere in the song Crosby sings unison with Stills and his voice is really the one you hear, not Stills' which is perhaps why it took so long to figure out who was who
Es cierto, las voces de Stephen y Graham son las más notorias. Cuando canto está canción me es fácil saltar de la primera de Still a la tercera de Nash, pero la segunda de David es fácil ignorarla.
@@rntrojasrojas2204 I can read that in spanish, y gracias . But, mostly, not always, crosby sings the root, and stills sings the third, Nash sings up a 5th or an octave of Crosby even going all the way back to woodstock. wait? the second of david is ignorantly easy? I'm speaking in intervals, you are speaking in parts. Stills sings the lead (la primera) , but in harmony he usually sings the third
One of the greatest - their voices blended in such a unique way - and their phrasing was perfect. I also love Stephen Stills guitar playing skills - underappreciated by some.
These guys worshipped their craft. Its almost like being in a prayer meeting. Great harmonies. Perfect control. Total blend of sounds to create their signature product. Overtones are beautiful and a tribute to their talent.
For me Graham Nash is a largely unrecognised giant. He went from the being top of the charts with the Hollies, to an integral part of a supergroup in the 70s, to producing exquisite work as a single artist.
My 10 year old granddaughter and I were at an outdoor concert where the band was playing the music from my era, including CSN&Y, and I told her that when the music is really well crafted and classic, it doesn't matter how many years pass. It sounds just as good today as it did the day it came out. I kept hundreds of albums which I recently gifted to my oldest daughter and my daughters and grandkids grew up listening to and appreciating the music that we had front row seats to.
I didn't know until I read your post that he died. When I was still on Twitter when it was still fun, I used to talk to him, and he actually responded to my posts. We talked about our strict fathers and growing tomatoes. It was so cool to be able to speak to him as an everyday, family guy. CSN&Y was so much a part of my youth... I saw them together and separately in concerts in the seventies... in Milwaukee, he played Guinevere for me when I yelled out my request. 🥺
WOW! I have never watched this song played live. wow. I could feel Steven Stills put his HEART into playing that song. At one point it seemed he was spent form the intensity, then he came forward to lead the finale. Whew!
What a Blessed audience.... All will carry this wonderful memory to the grave and beyond....I'm awestruck! Heard this song all through my life... everywhere I went in America I've heard this song! Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️
It's getting to the point where I'm no fun anymore I am sorry Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud I am lonely I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard Remember what we've said and done And felt about each other Oh, babe have mercy Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now I am not dreaming I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Tearing yourself away from me now you are free And I am crying This does not mean I don't love you I do, that's forever Yes and for always I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret Are you still listening? Fear is the lock and laughter the key to your heart And I love you I am yours, you are mine You are what you are You make it hard And you make it hard And you make it hard And you make it hard Friday evening Sunday in the afternoon What have you got to lose? Tuesday morning Please, be gone, I'm tired of you What have you got to lose? Can I tell it like it is? (Help me, I'm sufferin') And listen to me baby It's my heart that's a-sufferin', it's a-dyin' (Help me, I'm dyin') And that's what I have to lose (To lose) I've got an answer I'm going to fly away What have I got to lose? Will you come see me Thursdays and Saturdays? (Hey, hey, hey) What have you got to lose? Chestnut brown canary Ruby throated sparrow Sing a song, don't be long Thrill me to the marrow Voices of the angels Ring around the moonlight Asking me, said she's so free How can you catch the sparrow? Lacy lilting lady Losing love lamenting Change my life, make it right Be my lady Qué linda, me la traie a Cuba La reina de la Mar Caribe Cielo, sol, no llega tarde aquí Y qué triste que no puedo bailar, oh va, oh va
Nobody can play guitar like Stephen. If somebody asked me who was the best guitarist I would say it would have to be a tie between George Harrison and Stephen Stills
After 5:30 this song comes really alive. Stills singing spanish. And the exiting ritmes of the Caraïben. Stills father was a trator and Stills picked up all the local sounds and mixed them with the american music. I love it very much
This piece is on the list of my 10 favorite songs of all time. I have my original album that I bought 50+ years ago. It sounds like an Indian raga played on sitar in parts.
In the 1960's I loved to listen to Judy Collins. I guess you could say I had a crush on her. Upon finally finding out what Suite Judy Blue Eyes was about (and how great the music and the voices of the band were), I always thought of Judy when listening to their great song.
I saw CSN&Y in a reunion concert in 1974 in Milwaukee. I had seen them all separately a coupke if times before. With open seating, I was sitting about 50 feet away from the stage and when it was time for the acoustics set David Crosby said, "Well, what should we play?" and I yelled out, "GUINEVERE!" He looked at me and laughed and that's what they played next... They were part of the soundtrack of my youth.
@@marklee9268 it ws a while ago i researched it and found the year so i dont have the source before me, but it clearly was NOT 1969 because in 1969 they were all still in their 20's -- here they are in their early 40's except Stephen stills who was in his late 30's. here's a clip of them in 1974 where they are clearly younger -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FtFqzTcWTBE.htmlsi=UYa-CpCd2zvKKi2j
I have heard this by others and thought great--whats's spcial about CSN. Just had another to listen to CSN and by the cringe, nobody can beat that for sheer and utter brilliance. I feel a twassack for thinking other versions were the best. Now I know. the Brilliance of CSN,and I feel like a weed!!
How important to a viewer of great paintings on what kind of strokes did Michelangelo do to make something magical CSN made their harmonies “sing” (musician’s term), whatever they did. Memorable music is not programmable or “perfect” - it just works If one is transported away and mesmerized by the sounds, relish and treasure those moments Note: I had worked with the late Dallas Taylor, who worked with CSN&Y from before/during/after Deja Vu days and he just marveled at how the magic of the harmonies were created/recreated Having worked with Brian Wilson, had experiences with legendary creators of angelic harmonies that have transported myself to worlds I have never imagined before .
