+AbandonedSC I have the Crosley 24 retro TV, I got it deeply discounted clearance, it seems to actually do what its supposed to. I assume that is why they don't make it anymore. They found they inadvertently made something that works. But I never would have given them anything like cost for it. I'll be amused to see how long it lasts.
Best part - approximately 18:00 when Crosley went to 18k rpm! Laughed my ass off! Shango - this video is a masterpiece! The humor and the destruction - absolutely perfect!
Note that quality DC motor! Nowhere in the world can you find such a laser precise sub atomic particle, nuclear atom controlled oscillation vibrating at 10 trillion times per millisecond to provide absolute speed stability down to 1 quadrillionth of an RPM!
The Crosley is truly a lab grade instrument that would even rival a Thorens TD166 MK2. LOL! I can hear Powel Crosley in Spring Grove cemetery hollering, "stop slandering my name!!"
They were ALWAYS low end stuff...the cars last , but needed some engineering fixes. Tvs were TRASH designed to be cheaper and simpler then the competition...
TheSkullArmyMC I would hate to be living in that universe. I love my fancy Technics, Pro-Ject, VPI, etc. BTW, have you heard about the new SL-1200 model?
Notice that there is no strobe or pitch control--they didn't want anyone to see how wildly inaccurate the speed regulation was, and with such a cheap motor, a pitch control wouldn't be able to hold a consistent speed for very long anyways. Technics probably put more money into just their tonearm/gimbal support system than the fake Crosley company spent on their entire unit.
When they compare the "Technics" I can hear the sarcasm in their voices. Those things can actually last you 20, maybe 30 years... the Crosley... maybe 2 AT THE MOST!
Quantum Leap wow, great find there. You would be amazed what people throw out & don't think when they do it because those turntables are still worth a pretty penny for their age. People have more money then sense.
+Ryan Toomey Because there are always people who will fall for gimmicky marketing and low, low Walmart prices. Because there are always people who will follow the latest fad in a desperate effort to be 'cool'. Because there are always people who think 'shiny and new' is automatically better than 'old' or 'used'. Because there are people who cannot grasp that a low price usually means 'low quality'. Take your pick.
I choked when he wiggled the tone arm of the Crosely. Those poor records survived 40 years to end up being tortured by that Crosley. It amazes me how many people take Crosley products seriously. They're all over eBay,.
Nice review, but you didn't review the gasoline powered player. Any chances of a review/test-playing? By the way, what is actually inside those dc motors as far as speed control goes? The wireless audio transmitter did look like the only part partially worthy to save from the EOL.
They are quite easy to find, although they tend to have a lot of wear and tear on them due to their popularity with DJs. Honestly, I wouldn't buy a turntable that is this dirty looking :/
Shango, I have a Technics SL1200MKII outfitted with audiophile grade Shure V15VXMR cartridge (Tracking at 1 1/4 grams). Should I ditch this setup in order to procure one of these wonderfully engineered Chinese made units? Please advise me on the proper course of action. Also, I love your vids on the old "roundie" color sets. As an old TV tech, I would love to own one.
You got me thinking I should maybe dump my Technics SP-10 Mk 2 with EPA 100 tonearm and ZYX 4D low output moving coil cartridge for one of these Crosleys!
good for you! I am 16 and I have two bell system model 2500s, two model 500s (one bell system, the other Stromberg Carlson) and I have a 1970's design line bell system big button telephone model 2903. I also collect radios and other electrothingamojigs including glass insulators and clocks. i have seen some of your videos and you know your stuff. thanks for commenting.
+Dylan D Fire Alarm the 2500 should be easily found. ever musty basement should have one. good to see a person under 20 actually have and use a landline too. I thought it was funny how you had Shawn K, Shango066 and a few others in there I watch on your homepage.
15:48 I have no strong opinion on the Crosley though i probably woudn't have paid what it cost; at least I couldn't hear the wow and flutter, which is an step up for that lot. But I love that home-made brush cutter.
This video is so great I'm dying here laughing my ass off this reminds me of something out of Monty Python you actually took the time to modify a lawn mower to do this great work fellows great work
Thanks Shango066 for that high quality review of the Crosley Turntable. As always you're videos are of the highest quality and a laugh is the best you could hope for. I just laughed my head off watching this. Crosley truly is a heap of shit. Hahahaha
You guys are great together. MOORE more more! I love the snorting, classic. I have been working with techniques tern tables since 1973. I love this video and the other one also. In all serious ness the crossly does look quit good for what it is "wow magnetic cartridge"
ha ha ha Shango, your ''reviews' of ALL: the crosley POS are PRICELESS!! SOOO FUNNY, THANKS,,,waiting for you to destroy one with a sledge, or dropped off a bridge, or tie to the RR tracks lol
Wanna see something really funny? Do a Google search for "How It's Made Turntable" and see how an ultra-snobby ultra-pricey turntable is made. Note the similarities between the turntable in that video and this Fine Piece Of Stuff Crosley. Remember folks, although the venerable Technics SL-1200MKII isn't being made anymore, Audio Technica will be happy to sell you a perfect knock-off of it complete with a good-quality magnetic cartridge, switchable low-level, or line-level outputs, and a USB output, all for less than what Crosley wants for the current version of this Foaming Piece of Stuff. Bottom line: Do not buy your turntable out of the Urban Outfitters catalog. Seriously.
To be fair I think the play at the bearing is intentional I think it's some derivative of a knife-edge bearing knockoff type design, the way it moves in all directions it's obviously not a gimbal
I'm glad I watched this video to the end, otherwise I would have thumbsdown it. Look at that Crosley platter spin balanced perfectly at 1500 RPM...LOL.
A friend works at Penn's Peak Radio, an internet radio station, which is used to supply Blue Ridge Communications, a cable TV conglomerate supplying much of central Pennsylvania - with their "informational channel audio presence". He's always looking for something interesting to do on-air. Maybe he can do a comparative test between Crosley's top-of-the-line model, such as this, and the USA - produced equipment which they use in their studios???
I've seen them advertised at a drive-in theater, Becky's Drive-in, in Berlinsville, PA. Actually, I don't know if they're in Berlinsville or Walnutport, but around there. That sounds interesting, doing a comparison.
shango066 You completely forgot to mention how Crosley painstakingly designed their innovative, stubby S-curve tonearm, to ensure that the playback cartridge, and high-quality diamond eliptical stylus stays as close to perpendicular with the record groove as possible at all times, for the utmost in high frequency response, the lowest possible phase distortion, and most importantly, the gentlest handling of your hard-to-find, expensive record collection.
I would love to have that old direct drive Technics that guy has, those are great turntables. I have a direct Drive SL-D303 Technics and I would not take anything for that old unit. I think destroying Crosley record plays should be a new sport ! lol
Wow, genuine wood grained pressed cardboard plinth!! I am sooo impressed. It came to a deservedly terrible end, rest assured it will NOT kill any more LP's!Great vid, I laughed so hard!
Three-legged Briggs & Stratton monster eats crap Crosley turntable! Just classic!!!! Can't stop laughing. I was sitting in a meeting at work...thought of this video...and L'dOL! thinking about it!!! Perfect EOL.
