I can tell you... No fan of those players, but they are okay. Just change the stylus for a diamond one and you will have a great time with this player. It will not damage your record btw.. I am using a DJ turntable with a cartrige that tracks with 5g. That's rounabout the tracking force of little Crosley here. I have never ever damaged any record the last 8 years due to this tracking force. The statement he is providing is completely wrong. Just do yourself a favour and replace that stylus. It's an upgrade of $8 that improves sound quality by 200%. Enjoy the player! It looks very cool! And if your like the design and take compromises with the sound quality by the installed speakers it is more than fine. You can add some better active bookshelf speakers by yourself, if you want to get the best experience...

@@theredspoon1763 Crosley's don't even track at 5g. They use a spring in the tone arm to counterbalance the weight. If you use a traditional scale, it'll show 5 grams or more because the spring isn't doing it's job and you're getting the weight of the cartridge. if you get a scale that weighs closer to the platter, you'll get a more accurate reading. You can adjust a spring counter balance easily too. Here is the thing, standard consumer turntables in the day would track closer to 3-5 grams and it's only recently that people pitched a fit about it. Crosley is just fine. I used to believe the hype that Crosley's were all crap. If you just want to listen to records, they do alright. Just upgrade the sapphire needle to a diamond one. My only issue is that the center spindle doesn't rotate with the turntable, instead it's stationary.

I bought my crosley (as of writing this) about 6 months ago. Initially, when I was first getting into Vinyl, I had 2 records and was listening to them out of the in-built speakers. Back then, it was a dream to even have a turntable and records, especially considering I only had a budget of about SGD$200 - which got me the crosley and the two records. Since then, I have increased my budget dramatically and have amassed a relatively large collection of records. I feel, my crosley isnt able to play my records the way i like them. It skips a lot on records I know never skip on other turntables, and I also fear that its beggining to damage them. As of writing this, I’m planning on buying a brand new Audio Technica AT-LP60XBT to replace my crosley. I will still defend the crosley for what it stands for; its good for newcomers and those who have a tight budget - also those who dont care about the sound quality, but rather the novelty of Vinyl. Its served me well, but until ive made my purchase and have received delivery, I refuse to play any of my Bowie, Queen, ELO or Beatles LPs on it. But its not a bad turntable. Whoever says its Bad probably did 1 hour of research on youtube. Its tracking force, while still quite high, is still in limits for Vinyl. It may be cheaply built and be of low quality material, but it’ll still work like a turntable until you buy a proper one down the line. Rest assured, if your new to vinyl, it wasnt a complete waste of money, you just had better options at your disposal.

Crosley cruisers don’t suck complete ass, it’s good but not for longtime use. Now there are somethings to consider, some Crosleys are amazing turntables for the money, the only thing I recommend is use another pair of speakers because (sometimes) the inbuilt speaker can be bad.

My workhorse stereo setup is a $99 (new!) Target Heyday 2-speed turntable, a $60 pre-owned 1983-vintage Realistic (Radio Shack) AM/FM receiver, and a pair of $40 (new!) Dayton B652 speakers. Not high-end by any stretch, total investment just around $200. $30 more for the 'rack cabinet' it's set up in. It'll absolutely blow away a Crosley or Victrola or 1byOne or any of those 'suitcase' players and even their all-in-ones. I'm not exaggerating, either. It's a night and day comparison. With those suitcase things, you're literally hearing only HALF the music. Yes, it's quite a bit more money, but the sound quality is worlds better, it treats my records far more gently, and I have the option to add additional equipment very easily - it's set up for a cassette deck (which I've recently added), PLUS an auxiliary input for a CD player, Bluetooth receiver, or whatever. Is the improvement in sound quality worth the expense? Damn straight it is. And if I can swing it on MY budget, I'm betting you can swing it on yours. I put mine together over the course of a few months. Patience was indeed a virtue.

Like you can get MUCH better turntable setup for twice price but remember Crosley will damage your vinyls and if you own 5 vinyls for maybe 20 $ each the more expensive turntable will be much better..

My first record player was a plastic suitcase model, but not a Crosley. It was a GE model from around 1970. I’d imagine it was far worse than a Crosley, actually. I was three years old, though, so I didn’t care. I just wanted to play records. It wasn’t until I was about eight years old that I got a semi-decent record player. A real turntable came along by my eleventh birthday. My parents thought I was strange for always wanting to look at turntables while every other boy my age wanted to play sports...

What you don't understand is that there is a market for Crosley's. My brother has one. All he wants to do is occasionally listen to one of his old albums from the 70's. It works fine for that. Not everyone aspires to be an audiophile. How many millions of people listen to shiity sounding mp3's with shiity ten cent ear plugs. Are crosley's junk? maybe but it's fine for some people. Not me though.
@xaenon
@xaenon 6 лет назад
+JustLikeGreta Even if the turntable itself was stellar (it isn't), the audio system in those things is absolutely abysmal. It's like hearing your favorite song on a cheap transistor radio - tinny, distorted, and lacking any sort of depth at all. Compare that experience with hearing the same song on a decent home stereo - there's a world of difference. Honestly. Your brother would be better off downloading his album from iTunes and listening to it via a decent quality Bluetooth speaker, than tearing up his vintage record on one of those wannabe Crapleys or their clones. I get that some people don't care. My point is they MIGHT care if they had something to hear their music on that sounded better.
@amandadenning2220
@amandadenning2220 5 лет назад
I'm not an audiophile, but I won't let a Crosley needle even touch my vynal records. Your brother should look into a nice vintage setup. Not so much for the sound, but to preserve his records. If his favorate record wears out, he'd have a hard time finding another. Especially an original pressing. The re pressings suck.
@brooklyna007
@brooklyna007 5 лет назад
If it damages the records then it is not just about sound quality. And if all he wants is to hear old songs he can either buy them on iTunes or copy his vinyl into digital which is quite easy these days. There is no excuse to using a Crosley.

I personally wouldn't listen to vintage vinyl regardless of the record player because every time you listen to a record, it wears it out and damages it. It doesn't matter if your using a cheap crosley cruiser or an high quality expensive audio technica lp60. I have old Beatles, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney records from the 80's/90's and I plan on listening to them as little as possible so it doesn't get damaged.

Buy an old tube radio, are superb amps, connect the pickup to the radio. and you get automatic distortion if you turn it loud enough. if its cheap enough, experiment with what you have.

I agree with a lot of the comments about getting what you can afford, and what suits your tastes. I started out with my parents' old record collection, some of which are in pretty rough shape, and a Victrola suitcase player. However, once I started buying my own records, I started thinking about longevity, and how a better turntable would be better for the records physically and sound wise. So I think, if you're in it for the long haul, save up to buy a quality player if you can.

@@JuanChavez-pc5rw Because, record equipment is expensive af and most people can't afford to by both records and expensive turntables. Not to mention a lot of people (myself included) don't want to have a super expensive, complicated audio system, with all the wires and separate devices and all that that take up your whole living room, that stuff gives me too much of a headache to enjoy music. Sometimes all people want is just an all in one system that can be easily moved around and not very budget breaking. They don't destroy records, they can wear them out quicker but not enough to really ruin them (and it's not like the old ones people played a record on hundreds of times on in 1975 or something were any better) and the sound quality is fine. I have a cheapish record player (not a Crosley, a higher quality one, but still cheap), and it's never once warped, damaged, or destroyed and of my records. The sound quality coming through it's own speakers is a bit fuzzy but I hook it up to some Sony speakers and it sounds fine.

@@Jiji-the-cat5425 No, it's not. I'm old, yes, but these things are tinkertoys. TOMMYBOI has bypassed the most significant flaw, and good for him, but the tracking force and cheap design of the turntable does indeed wear the records much faster than a good-quality turntable. And the good news there is a 'good quality' turntable starts at around $120, sometimes even less, though you do need a separate amp and speakers. I encourage youth to not just get into vinyl, but also to recognize that cheap 'n nasty audio gear is false economy. Spend a LITTLE more and get something far better. Stay well clear of those briefcase things and the equally-terrible 'all in one' setups. They're cheap, disposable garbage. Seriously, boys and girls. A realistic starting figure for a good turntable and stereo setup is around $200-250. It buys you a lot. Voilà. Crosley's and other budget record players really aren't meant to be enjoyed with the built-in speakers.. at least not for anyone who's actually serious about the listening experience. They're literally just to play the record, and it's kind of assumed you have or will buy quality speakers to hook it up to. Millions of people have owned budget record players for years and have not torn up their records. It should be more than fine. Honestly, record players of the '60s often didn't have metal tone arms or dials to adjust them either. You don't need all of that new fancy stuff to enjoy the music or play the record. Take what this guy said with a grain of salt.

A collegae of her told her it was a good record player. Anyway, she bought herself some records and the player was skipping, like a lot. She wondered why and I showed her this video. Anyway, she bought it for like 130 euro’s. Just now I was able to sell it for 50 euro’s. We are now getting a Audio Technica LP120 so I will be able to play my Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon album on a GOOD record player without worrying this fine record gets damaged. Everything you said about Crosley is 100% correct. If you start collecting and spinning vinyl, do yourself a favor and spend a little more money on a good record player.

As kids in the 60's, we had a portable RCA, and the tonearm was a club, compared to what audiophiles require. We put that thing on the floor, with 45's scattered allover. Played them tens of hundreds of times. It never occurred to me to be critical of the sound quality. It was just getting the music to you, someway. Music boxes, aren't hi-fi yet they are still fun to listen to. Car radios sucked back then too, and most home stereo systems from the box stores were crap. Mono transistor radios, etc. Still, for some, that is the experience, and a lot of used records we find now, started out life that way. The Crosley is what it is, and really priced accordingly in 2019 dollars.

Although I agree, you're missing something in one word, "Hobby". Not everyone listens to vinyl as a hobby. Some younger people just like it because it's different and only own maybe four - six albums on vinyl that they play every so often. For that it makes sense they'd go for an $80 Crosley instead of a nice turntable that goes from $200-$600. They could definitely make their product better without bumping the price to much, but I really do think Crosley is doing anything wrong. They are making a cheap turntable that younger audiences can afford and allow them to get into this for a relatively cheap price and as they learn more, if they so desire, will learn to go for bigger and better tables. If these weren't around to start people off with, they'd see the huge price tags of nice tables and turn away. Also, you mention the speakers. Completely true, but I do see a lot of my friends will plug them into nice receivers with descent speakers attached. And with me being into audio, they came to me for when purchasing them so I did make sure to point them to nice mid - late 90s receivers and descent speakers. Why 90s receivers? Cheap, Good build quality (not plastic), and with them being from the 90s you don't have to worry that it doesn't have a tape loop or phono inputs.

It won't ruin your records chill. My mom has had her records all her life and they played perfectly the first 13 years she had a fisher price record player...

Eh, I deeply enjoy listing to music as an escape, and I almost always will prefer playing from my phone for many reasons... but, I love the art appeal of records and I love to collect some of my favorite albums from my favorite artists and display them on a wall. So for me they are 90% art and I’m gonna play the music From my phone, but, every once in a great while I like to actually take one down and play it so for me this type of player is perfect. It’s compact and stored away easily and is cheap enough I don’t feel guilty about rarely using it but it still allows me to be capable of playing the records I own, albeit to a degree of clarity. I wouldn’t change mine

I ended up with a Victrola Raveo (basically, same as a Crosley), I never used the in built speakers and had mine hooked up to a creative intrigue with built in amplifier (they are ok but they aren't even designed for listening to music but to play computer games) and I must say it sounded pretty good. After a while (not sure how long it was on use) it stopped working, the place was damp so it might had been due to moisture and not to lack of build quality, so now I am considering buying something better. I have to say, I wouldn't buy another Crosley-ish record player but I can't say they sound bad if connected to a proper speaker.

The biggest one for me (with the cruiser especially) is the fact the platter's smaller than 12 inches. A record's delicate so applying pressure to an area without support on one will most definitely warp the record
@ghosty3034
@ghosty3034 Год назад
not in the 30-45 minutes its on the platter, also warping is caused by heat displacing the vinyl, and unless you put your crosley in an oven, it wont "warp" your vinyl..

Hi Jarrett. Totally agree Crossley Record Players have made their way over the Atlantic to the UK. But because of the bad name that they have ( And Rightly so.) They go under the names in the UK of GPO and many other weird names but they are Crossley in Disguise. Same Suitcase, Same Shite Build and Quality. Stick with the Audio Technica USB-LP-120 It's real quality and not much more expensive than the crappophones called Crossley.

I had very similar case. My mom's boyfriend gave me Crosley Cruiser type turntable for my birthday and then I discovered design's flaws, I had hard time, couse I knew he was seatching turntable for a long time. And we are good friends. But finally, I told him personally the situation then we were. Just point out to your dad that you accidently found out that Crosley Cruiser and it's knock offs harms vinyl. Slowly, but harms never the less. Tell that you understand and appreaciate his records, but you can't yourself buy vynil, which are pretty expensive, ant listen to it while knowing that you are slowly damaging it. This argument is especially good if you are listening music often and all other sound gear iš hi fi. Couse with better the sound equipment, is easier to hear flaws of the sound. I think, he'll understand and buy good turntable. As for Crosley, look at it as good investment for your involvment into vynil club, excitment for it:)

I got this as a gift as I received my first LP in a boxset. worked alright, the sound wasn’t the best but it worked. the rotator was definitely off and did not play my records at 33 consistently as they were distorted to a lower pitch and I had to use the pitch knob and pinch it up just a bit to make it sound properly. I accepted all of this until I received one of my favorite records and it couldn’t play it at all, skipped all over the place (hasta el cielo by khruangbin). Only that record of mine that skipped. the rest did marginally but not as bad as that one, plus all of mine were distorted. I’d assume it’s because that LP is quite bass and drum heavy and just couldn’t handle playing it. I got a new turntable and it plays all my records perfectly without skipping, including the one I just mentioned. at first I thought it was possibly a faulty record, but it was mint and new, and ultimately it was just the Crosley. to start, it’s an okay turntable to get into this hobby, but if you encounter the problem like I have and it just doesn’t play your favorite records right, just get a better one. If you financially can’t, hold off from playing records that skip until you can. (I now have a 1byone I got off Amazon, works pretty well, no complaints so far. nothing extraordinary but definitely a better upgrade to start). If not just use it until you feel like you can actually upgrade to something better. :)

+Soviet Doge please return the LP60 if you can. It's got a counter weight / tracking force of 4-5 grams which will destroy & damage your records. Playing them a few times is okay, but they will end up not playing right in the future. I emailed audio technica asking what the tracking force was & they told me. You can call or email for yourself & see that I'm right. I'm trying to help you out because I bought one & I'm returning it next week. Yeah the sound is better, but it won't be when ur records aren't playing right. Also it plays at the wrong speed & it's just not good. So please if you can return it & save up. The tracking force is an absolute nonsense. The idea that 5 gram tracking force cuts up a record was proven to be bull recently by VWestlife. Old 78 players had 8-9 grams of force, and some of those records are over 70 years old. So don't worry about tracking force.
@300DBenz
@300DBenz 7 лет назад
JonnyInfinite 78s are made out of shellac, which is much harder than the softer polyvinyl chloride (pvc) that 45 and 33 1/3 records are made out of. That's why 78s can handle that much force.
