Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I started Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x

For me the bobbins in the plastic boxes is the way to go especially for projects that have lots of colors. I put the numbers on them and put them in order (if it’s a kit) that saves me so much time lol. I dislike the thread cards that have the threads just hanging from them because I always get tangles haha

Man I wish you would have done this a year ago! I've gone through several different ways to keep my floss! I do use the snack bags but with the closure on the top! I too use the FQS Cross Stitch journal, for me it's a game changer. When I started stitiching just over a year ago, I had stuff everywhere, the journal has helped to me at least know what I'm working on. Thank you again for the helpful tips, can't wait to reorganize my floss again.

I am organizing my floss right now and I chose to use the floss bags, then attach them to a file folder (trimmed and hole-punched) in the order in the DMC catalogue. I put them all in a Sterilite file box. I have a separate box for Fancy Floss. I’m just very worried about buying floss for a project when I already have the color, but I just don’t realize it. I love this method. I checked out snack bags years ago but didnt like the zipper on top, lol. Never even thought to look again. Love the portion control bags. Walmart has them too. Very inexpensive. I think I will start setting them up for my Classic Colorworks first. Then the DMC (I have almost all of them). I will stick the bobbin into the bag to though. Slowly working them out of stock. They are inexpensive enough to set them up for each project too. Love it. Thank you.

I don’t know if it helps but you actually have a nice cross stitch store in Arnold Pa just about 20 miles NE of Pittsburgh.....pretty much straight up RT 28. I used to live in the neighboring town and went there often. She also has some evening stitching once a month and the group of ladies are awesome and meet other places near there also frequently...I know some of the ladies are from south of Pittsburgh. It’s called Country Counter. Not sure what her hours are now tho. I’m lucky to live outside of Cleveland now and you know the great places that are near here😁. She also does framing, will order anything and has lots of fabrics, threads, notions, and patterns. It’s all cross stitch. Like a little smaller Crafty Ewe. Great video by the way!

4:04 Even when designing, I wouldn't recommend sorting the skeins by color. Why? Because if you're a designer, you'll have the color charts sold by the brand you use, which are already sorted by color; and there you can see the number and go to your storage by number directly.

I'm new to cross stitch so forgive if this is a silly question but what is the process you go through when you open up a new skein? Do you simply unravel the amount you need, cut it, separate it and then put it back in the baggie? Then you use the part for your project and then the remaining strands from that cut are loose in the bag? Thanks for your input!
@erincaton1655
@erincaton1655 4 года назад
I have been thinking about how to word this for a week but I think I'm overthinking how to respond... I usually cut off a piece of what I'm using at that moment, use the 6 strands and then cut another piece. My bags while I'm stitching can be a bit sloppy but all together in a bag which is nice.

I have been using the floss bobbins for years and it has always worked for me. I keep them in a double sided Plano box and take out what I need for project and put in smaller box. My extra skins are stored in the interlocking stack containers by numbers (100 's in box 200's in next box etc.), these interlock on top of each other ,then I shop from these when I need more of one colorworks.Also to make bobbins easy readable I cut the number off the skein and tape it to my bobbin. Great video and I understand about not having LNS close, the nearest on to me is about 4-5 hours away
@conniegarvie
@conniegarvie 9 месяцев назад
For myself, I will never use bobbins again! It leaves permanent bend in the thread and, to my mind, raises the question of weak spots in the floss. Since 1977, I have either use acid - free cardboard, punched 3/4-inch holes and arranged the floss by DMC colors, or using thread drops. I have significant arthritis in my hands and always stitch in hand. Using a hoop causes too much drag on my wrists and fingers. I also put my thread minder on whatever clothing I'm wearing, not on the Aida itself.
