@@bossviper2833 hypnosis is a form of mind control, just not a strong one. It's based on suggestion - and given Luigi's diary in the previous game, it makes some sense that all that had to happen was he needed to be opened up to suggestion

Sorta! This is actually based off the game Super Paper Mario in which (spoilers) Luigi is brainwashed into unknowingly becoming his evil “secret” alter ego Mr.L. A lot of people HC that Mr. L is just all of luigi’s repressed pain, neglect, envy, and resentment. In the same series we actually get a diary entry by Luigi that says how much he admires and wishes he could be like Mario, but Mario is always leaving him behind. So this is like a what if scenario taking place after the events of Super Paper Mario. Like if Luigi finally snapped and VOLUNTARILY became Mr. L again, but this time with full consciousness over his actions.
