Join me as I catch the historic MV Glenachulish ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. This unique journey on the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world offers a glimpse into a cherished piece of maritime heritage. Built in 1969, the ferry has a capacity of 6 cars and can carry up to 12 passengers, making it a quaint and personal experience.
Operating from March 28th to mid-October, the ferry runs every 20 minutes between 10am and 6pm (extended to 7pm in July and August). You don't need to book ahead; just arrive and buy your ticket on board. For 2024, prices are as follows:
Car with up to 4 passengers: £20.00
Car return: £30.00
Six-journey ticket book: £75.00
Minibuses (including up to 12 passengers): £30.00
Additional minibus passenger: £3.00
Motorbike: £10.00
Motorbike return: £15.00
Foot passenger: £3.00
Foot passenger return: £5.00
Bicycle (and cyclist): £4.00
Bicycle (and cyclist) return: £6.00
Small camper-van: £25.00
Motorhome: £30.00
The service is subject to weather conditions, so it's best to check online or on social media for updates before you travel. This crossing has been in use for centuries and offers an unparalleled way to reach the rugged beauty of Skye, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
