Crossley made some fine engines, I was the engine attendant (Chief) for a Crossley HRL4 240 BHP 4 cylinder Direct Reversing Super-scavenged Two-Stroke in "m v Wincham" Idle 45 RPM 350 absolute max RPM . Air Start at 350 PSI. When we opened the Albert Dock in Liverpool I did 255 engine manouvers in two hours as we were holding position in the main dock. Lovely to see this engine, I expect it was blowing smoke-rings from the Exhaust stack like most Crossley's.

Hi I served my apprenticeship at Crossley Premier .1958 / 1964 I recall a 4-cylinder diesel engine manufactured for a company in Australia. The main cast iron engine block was found to have a crack in it while under test prior to shipping. I believe it was repaired. Think this was one of the last engines produced before the company moved to Pielstik engines.

I was in a ship with three Crossley generators. Anybody walking near the crankcase was taking their life in their hands . By the time that ship along with a sister ship were sold I don't think there were any left. I can't believe the amount of work put on them with no results. Now retired I cannot say a good word for them. They were nothing but scrap iron jungle.

Super. 360 horsepower could provide a lot of electricity and drive a lot of machinery. 💙 T.E.N.

Anyone interested in this stuff should have a weekend In Folkestone and visit the pump that has for no idea how many years ben there , it lifts the water to balance the lift that pulls up the one the other side, l operated these lifts in 1967, certainly worth a visit.

A Crossley Pielesteck ,like an underfloor Leyland 680 diesel ,only bigger ,runs at a high rpm so needs gearing down to drive certain types of machinery or line shafting.

I think this dates from long before they made Pielsticks under licence

All the noise bells, flashing lights and whistles, then it starts and runs quietly.

They should have it hooked up to a load, thats when engines really "talk"! Not just chug chug chug click click click

Those accents all sound very Australian, is this Midland in Western Australia? It' great to see not every old building has been demolished for developers.

What a waste of the first 4.30 minutes. Just crap. Finally see the engine run. Well done to all.

kept the first four minutes as they blew the time keeper whistles to mark the start of the operations. the reason i kept it in was because the time keeper whistles are a significant part of the history of the midland railway workshops.
