Your efforts are very much appreciated! More so the camping, do while you are able. Hopefully you'll have many years left for hiking (Alex caring for his knee); camping outdoors especially on the ground, not so much. Thanks again for taking us places many of us would not have enjoyed such extreme beauty otherwise ~

What I like about the longer videos is I can watch over a few days. I find it extends the enjoyment when I get a dose for a few days. It be more editing time but by adding content from an existing trip reduces time away from home. Always a trade off. Btw the video is visually stunning, cheers.

I need to do it before I age out. Love the pace of your videos and the approach you take to your adventures. I hope the business of producing content never impacts on the pleasure you take in the exploration and adventure.

I rarely watch a video twice, especially if it is longer than about 15 minutes. But I wanted to see this one again because it has been on my mind on and off since I watched it the first time the week you posted it. It's been on my mind so much that I've told friends that I am going to try and duplicate it next year after I retire. Epic doesn't do it descriptive justice.

Love this area; thank you for sharing it with us. My husband and I drove north out of Pinedale, WY on highway 740 (I think) to a gorgeous overlook of the Wind Mountain Range. Simply one of the most beautiful vistas I’ve ever seen. There was primitive camping at the top but we were pressing on to Utah and didn’t stay.....I’ve always regretted that! Tristan - those high stringed-out lakes descending from a cirque are termed “paternoster” (paternoster), Latin. They are formed by subsequently occurring recessional moraines in many cases, from lower to the upper most elevation, and usually terminating in the highest lake in the cirque.

Did your buddy ever figure out his knee problem ? That happened to me hunting north of Gillette, Wyoming. Then it just seemed to happen going up or down. Worse going down stairs, trails didn't matter. Then it went away at lower elevations. Then 15 years later it started again ! Elk hunting in the Wyoming range. But it got worse and on the flats. Both knees, crippling ! We stopped and they just seized up ! Could hardly walk but we pushed on and they at least got mobile again !. 2 1/2 miles to the truck. Nothing ever shown up. I show horses so my knees are bent most of the day. We move to 7600 ft elevation in WY and the knee pain went away. Before I had lived in Michigan. I often wonder if it was just lack of oxygen at higher altitudes. I feel his pain tho. You haven't crossed any grizzlies in your travels ? Great video !

An Excellent Adventure. You two are Mountain Men for sure. How did Alex's knees turn out? sounds like he must have some abrasion damage in his meniscus, I had a symptom like that, minor surgery and 2 years later I am OK. Thanks for taking us along, Tristan -- this is my favorite kind of hike! One thing always puzzles me about the modern hiker's food choices, though. I get it that we are habituated to high-carb foods these days more than ever. But even the B.S.A. knew 50 years ago that fats are almost twice as dense a source of calories and are not lacking nutritionally, either. So what I wonder is -- do only fanatics leave the starches and sugars at home?
@SUVRVing
@SUVRVing 4 года назад
I can't speak to what everyone else does, but for me, convenience is the most important thing. If you've got suggestions for low-mess, no-cook, high-fat, low-carb, low-sugar, backpack-stable foods that you can live off of for a week (other than pemmican, cheese, or summer sausage), I'm all ears.
@livinglike_lisa7954

SUV RVing there’s a series videos by Gear Skeptic that breaks down the most dense high caloric backpacking food. He even includes spreadsheets with all of the foods. It might be worth checking out. He did a lot of research to come up with it. I found it quite interesting and informative. I learned about it on the UL backpacking subreddit.
@robertphillips93
@robertphillips93 4 года назад
@@SUVRVing I guess there's really two ways to look at the question: motivation and practicality. There are "mountains" of research and anecdotal practice over the last 10 years showing the short- and long-term benefits of high fat low carb eating. Of particular interest for hikers is lower inflammation and better healing, which are shown to improve greatly under lower blood insulin levels. But altering the diet on-trail only is unlikely to produce significant improvement. It follows then, that better quality hiking eats will grow from a positive experience with these foods at home. It may be possible to enjoy pemmican, cheese, and summer sausage with practice -- or not. But who doesn't like pot roast and tallowy gravy? Pack a 40oz wide-mouth titanium bottle and that's maybe 6000 calories. Sardines, tuna, and kipper snacks are just as tasty as cold pizza, according to some. Make almond flour crackers or tortillas and eat them with butter. Put MCT oil or butter in your morning joe . . . snack on macadamia nuts or almonds, etc, etc. I get it that this seems like too much bother for too little benefit. But consider what Ford Brewer, MD said about his own experience "oh yes, I was a marathoner and I was pre-diabetic" (or worse -- pre-CAD, pre-stroke, pre-Alzheimers . . .) With practice, improvement can be had with very little inconvenience, but it does require informed decision making!
@1ACL
@1ACL 4 года назад
Nuts, jerky, dried fruits, freeze dried veggies. I don't think carbs are an issue when you're working hard, and you do need the calories. I wondered why you didn't have a little stove for morning coffee/tea. Or a campfire. Makes camp so warm and homey.

Hey Tristan, I’ve been addicted to your videos and binging on them as I’m planning on doing car camping in a minivan (that I don’t have yet). I’m actually researching and trying to figure out which one would be best for the type of trips and camping you do. I presently have a Lexus NX SUV but I feel it’s too small. I’ve done some day trips in Florida and it feels pretty cramped. I’m thinking of either Grand Caravan or a Honda Odyssey. Do you think either one of those could handle all the type of road trips and off road camping you do? I almost bought a Ford Transit but I think I should start smaller and if the minivan turns out to be too small I can always upgrade. Any other car suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I’m looking for space and good gas mileage since I want to do lots of long trips but want to remain as stealth as possible.

Wow. Hello. Have put up more responses in past week than have in all the time been on Utube, hmm? But say, you are absolutely right about them hills they are Beautiful, absolutely Beautiful. Similar to what you said, I had heard of that range and probably asked about them, but never heard anything stellar. Been south of them, east and west and even north plenty of times and now am regretting it BIG! Not going there. Am halfway thru and so far they appear reminiscent of the Muir trail and Mt. Whitney somewhat, but am blowin' smoke out my ass because I can't believe I never explored going there. In fact can recall only ever seeing pictures of the tops of the range, overviews and the like, but never like this from down inside them. Now wonder why never heard good things just mediocre about them, at the same time how come everybody I knew had been there, but downgraded it - Aha, it was a conspiracy dammit, I knew it. They are damn beautiful mountains, and valleys, and peaks and streams and lakes. Thank you for sharing them with me and helping me see.
