We WARNED !! Only the hardened wildlife viewer, should watch this video....This is NOT nice to watch but thats nature !! Nature can be what we think is cruel but thats survival.
The crow originally swooped down & twisted its neck with its beak.
Causing massive nerve damage.
The crow then sat back & waited for the duckling to weaken, before coming back for it.

@@TheMasterNo6 The duckling was attacked. There was nothing anybody could do, the little baby was already dying. This is pretty normal, in my city there's a bunch of ducks. Nature is like this and there's nothing you can do about it, some need to know the truth.

Yes it is indeed sad to see but that is nature..Be it in it harshest form. The crow had attacked the duckling & then went back & bided its time, until it struck again I watched the initial attack but knew that I was not to interfere...Let nature take its course !!
@CptnMatruz
@CptnMatruz 7 лет назад
Still, I imagine the initial attack must've been really fast, the mother didn't have time to react. Not much to do even if you've wanted to interfere.
@AveburyEddie
@AveburyEddie 7 лет назад
You are correct there. I was taking a photo when the crow first struck & it was one second & gone !! That fast but that enough to leave the duckling stricken. I always say when I go out, not interfere with nature & just photograph it & record it. No mater how nasty it gets. Im a believer that nature should be shown in its rawest state & not just its cute & cuddly. Ha Ha !! I will say that yes, I do have quite a few cute & cuddly vids though :) As to the duckling, im afraid that you are correct. It was quite doomed, from that first initial attack.

@vegan vipin Good God !! You dont even know how humans work, let alone how nature works !! Humans have Canine teeth, so hence we are by nature, meat eaters :) However I dont wear animal products, except my leather boots that I have made for me..I dont have any choice on that one. However !! If I wanted to I could go vegetarian, do to them eating Fish. While staring in a movie in France last year, I found that a quarter of the cast were vegetarians I had no thoughts of saving the duckling. The Crow has to eat also. As most likely does is chicks Thats how nature works. Ha Ha !! Sorry for traumatising you but I did warn you not to watch the video. So that was your fault Im afraid, for looking :)

A lot of birds (heron, gull) shake prey by the neck, maybe causing some nerve damage. Wonder if that's what happened.
@windtalker4191

Yeah most likely the attack from the crow caused nerve damage. The duckling is not paralyzed because it is still moving it's feet, but it can no longer stay balanced or walk.

To answer the question I noticed in comments. Yes, crows and other predatory birds (around that size) will weaken their prey into a submissive state. Then wait until the prey is tired out from fighting itself(lashing out) to get into a safer environment or until prey is weak from convulsing from pain and survival techniques. In this particular video, the crow had to wait for the surrounding ducks to disperse from the now tired and helpless duckling before it could go in for the kill.

That’s why they lay more than an egg. Meanwhile it’s healthy ones are not smart enough to take shelter because of the lackluster parenting of the mom leaving the rest out to hang dry for the gimped out duckling. It’s amazing how they keep what they can alive sometimes. It’s gotta suck to be a duck sometimes. Maybe it will return as a crow in its next life.
@AveburyEddie
@AveburyEddie 2 года назад
Ha Ha !! Quite possible :) You are correct ! I have seen clutches of 11 ducklings & this is why so many eggs are laid. Maybe only 2 ducklings from that clutch will make it to adulthood. Being a duck isnt easy, with so many predators about :)

It's a shame but I thank you for not interfering with the situation and for filming it so people see real life and death, I grew up on a farm and you learn how things work at a young age, I think most people would be shouting "save the duckling" but the instant the crow hit it that was it, all you would have done by stepping in was deprive the crow of its food and the duckings life would have been wasted, this is how the natural world works, obviously people "me included" feel sorry for the duckling and the mother duck but the instant the crow hit it the rest of the duck's knew it was game over...how can people have a go at you for posting this? It's just Life, if this offends you don't watch it and go sip your soy latte and leave it to people that appreciate getting to see a rare interaction, I'm going to sit down with my two small people tomorrow and watch and explain this to them, don't hide your next generation away from real life, the human race will not survive at this rate lol
@AveburyEddie

I can really understand people attacking me, do to survival movies rarely showing the predators kill. They have their wrong thoughts that nature is all cute & cuddly. Its anything but. ! The thing that that interest me in the video is the duck quacking at the ducklings & they all run for the water. Surely thats very rare to see duck language, telling the ducklings that danger is near :) No I never interfere with nature. Who knows where that crows next kill will come from. I feel certain that it was getting food for its chicks. It took the duck to the side & took off its head & then hid it. To come back later to eat. It then flew off, taking the body of the duckling away. Thats why I think that it had chicks. of its own to feed. Hope your friends found the video as interesting as yourself did :)
@danielandrews1801

I would have killed the duckling. Maybe a hard stomp on the head to end its suffering, and help the mother's suffering end faster too. Then the mother would leave and the crow could collect its food.

Unfortunately ducklings, like other fledgling or juvenile bitds, are often considered prey for the taking for a good many other animals within the ecosystem they are all a part of... I didn't even have to read the further descriptive to know that the crow would succeed in finally taking the duckling it downed... They usually do, and there's nothing mama duck can do about it, once the crow makes the initial attack...
@AveburyEddie
@AveburyEddie 3 года назад
You are spot on , there. The duckling would have died of shock from the first attack, let alone its injuries that would never have healed.

That duckling could no longer walk or balance upright due to nerve damage and was done for. So at this point, you would deprive a crow and its family food for no real benefit. Anyway, ducks are a prey species. This is why they have such large broods and lots of offspring, so a few make it to adulthood.
