One of my TOP 5!! LOVE this ... and to think that Geoff didn't want to do it because of how vile the lead character Frollo is. This is just another masterpiece from VoicePlay. You're so right calling out every one of them. Layne, Geoff, Eli, Cesar & J. None are all just exceptional.

If you haven't checked them out yet, you need to see their cover of The Oogie Boogie Song from the Nightmare Before Christmas, their Queen in 5 Minutes Medley, and their mini cover of Peaches for some crazy Geoff notes. And Geoff's solo channel is definitely worth a listen too.

It is hard, when you've just heard that brain-blasting, stomach-churning powerful climactic ending, to remember how gently this song started out. up until Layne did the "burn it" and the song kicked off, it was actually Layne singing bass. Geoff did a few of the very lowest notes double tracked since Layne struggles going that low, but the vast majority of it was Layne.

Concerning the bass, when Geoff is singing the lead vocals: It's also him - but layered, of course. The aim of every artist is to bring out the best acoustic result of his work (especially for music), and so there is post production in acapella, too. Some people mix up "acapella" with "live recording". That's wrong. What's important and the main quality is: None of the sounds (altered with effects or doubled/tripled layered) are synthetic or by instruments or computer. Every sound is originally created by voice or body (clapping, flipping, stomping, etc.). But in post production, you don't only mix the volume levels, you also use multiple layers to add more volume to the sound of the song, you use filters (like the electric guitar sound from Cesar here or in "Black Hole Sun". There it was Geoff singing the part and edited afterwards) and other tools. The same goes for the video shoot and the vocal recording. Of course, the video is recorded in "lip-synced" parts and edited to a prerecorded audio track. There are no microphones hanging from the ceiling to record the song when shooting the video (some people even think it works this way and are surprised how good the sound is, even when singers wearing masks or something)😉

I agree with some of the other Voice Player's recommendations on checking out Geoff's solo channel (You would love "Jack's Lament" for show of range) and Voice Play's "Seven Nation Army" for some amazing beatboxing from Layne. Sometimes it is hard to tell who is doing bass during Geoff's solo as J None can go very low and sings bass with the Navy and Layne can sing low and uses in inhaled beatboxing technique for low sounds (Layne did the bass parts here). Eli can also sing quite low. I think you should check out Voice Play's mini "Peaches" (go to Voice Play's channel and click on shorts) as it will completely blow you away!
