Now that I’m advocating for this in anyway, but just hear me out The people more likely to take advantage of abortion, services or people who already have one children and are living in poverty. That’s the majority of abortions in this country. In theory, abortion was paid for by that person‘s insurance or by taxpayer dollars, then that would be one less child to be supported in poverty through tax pay dollars in the future. So in a weird way, it would be like an investment in the future. Taxpayer dollars or private insurance pays for an abortion because it’s cheaper in the long run than paying for a whole other child. A very small percentage of abortions happen in the second trimester around week 20 because that is when a woman has had the anatomy scan done and when she has learned that the child will have a condition that will inevitably lead to lifelong disability or death. This is what right wingers like to call late term abortions. In those cases tax dollars or private insurance, paying for the abortion would be cheaper in the long run than taking care of a child with severe disabilities. Or in the case where the child is probably not gonna survive birth, it’s definitely cheaper and makes sense because why continue a pregnancy that is just gonna end in a gigantic hospital bill And not result in a child? You would think the insurance company would be OK with it because then they don’t have to pay the gigantic hospital bill later. Taxpayers definitely would be OK with it, because birth in the US can cost up to $10,000, so technically that’s thousands of dollars that US tax dollars won’t have to pay later. In other words, yeah I don’t understand why it’s not tax funded via Medicaid or covered by private insurance because in the long run it’s actually cheaper in the long run.
