I like cognac so this is a dream combination. What amazes me about this is how smooth it is. It is like butter scotch is texture. Very smooth! It is also very strong. I can drink two double shots after a days work. I’m good. It is beautiful. 91 for me
Cool to see Crown Royal trying different things. I remember when it was just the purple bag. By the way, got a bottle of Compass Box Peat Monster for the winter largely based on you guys.
Great review. I've always been a Crown fan and I'm glad you've done the tasting. To quote W.C. Fields "Who took the cork off my lunch?" BTW, Jim Murray named the Crown Northern Harvest Rye as the World Whisky of the Year. I'm don't believe it's of the caliber of last year's winner, the Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013, but to each his own!
+Jay Harrell ...We just found out about Jim Murray award today! The Yamazaki Sherry Cask was not available in the states, and last year the Kavalan Vinho Barrique Solist won the award. We do have a review of the Kavalan posted. Slainte`
I'm trying to wrap my taste buds around a cog-nack finish on a Canadian whisky... I will have to try this if they will have some at the whisky festival in January for which I have tickets...
I just bought my first Crown Royal (the Reserve) and my first impression is: the bag seems like a waste of resources, unless someone things the bag actually helps to protect the bottle... I think I recall the subject: what to do with the bags? I've started thinking about that. Just as I started thinking about uses for the bag, considering writing the question, I did think of one use. Let's say I'm about to go hiking in Bear territory. I have my knapsack, and maybe I should bring my semi-auto protection (just in case I have to scare away a bear). It seems to me the usual hand gun would fit in the bag. Tighten the drawstring and place it in your knapsack. The soft cloth bag serves to protect your protection. Your thoughts?
Sounds like a plan. I thought maybe you was going to say carry your spare meat in the bag, and then throw it at the bear. Bear stops to eat the bag, you runaway after taking a selfie.
Bart has never tried the flavored up Crowns and has no plans to try them. As far as thinking back to how they compare I can't really recall. I can tell you they were both very smooth and light. I actually lean toward the Crown NHR again and again.
LOL. I'm very inexperienced with whisky, but the regular crown royal was the first I tried. I loved the vanilla like smell but the taste to me was very much "wood" flavored. I bought the trial bottle of Vanilla because I thought it might add in the "missing taste" but it's almost overboard it's so sugary sweet! I was hoping you'd say the XO was a touch sweeter than the regular. Trying to decide if I should just pony up the 50 bucks and give it a shot.
Bought some yesterday! It smells just like a weaker version of Hennessey! But it tastes 100 times better than Hennessey V.S, because there is a slight sweetness to that green grape flavor I'm smelling and tasting, with a very gentle oak at the end! Nice.
XO is so easy to drink because it's just so smooth. It makes black taste harsh so beware if you try this...you may not be able to go back to Black or Regular.
Any chance of you guys reviewing the Glenlivet Nadurra 16 year? I've been hearing rumblings of them taking the age statement off. It's one of my favorite bourbon barrel aged whisky's for the price. 16 year, first fill, and cask strength for only 75 dollars where I am at. I recently stashed away two bottles just in case :) Also if it was to become NAS as the rumors suggest, having a before and after review would be educational, so people would know if it has changed for the better/worse.
+Evan Shokoofi ...Evan, we actually reviewed the Nadurra 16 year and the Nadurra Oloroso Sherry Cask. Both delicious and earlier reviews. You should find them with a search. A new expression Peated Cask is available in limited states right now, and i have a source in Texas looking for a bottle.
I purchase the XO Crown , and it taste a little better than the regular Crown Royal!! But, I would rather have the regular Crown, because XO is only a tad bit better!! In my humble opinion, the XO is not worth the extra money!!
