It's because of (a) the fact it wasn't made solely as a cashgrab, there were _some_ people passionate about its creation, and (b) this movie wasn't doused in CGI at every frame. It looks and feels more genuine.
@@roisinnigcrainn7722 also because they didn’t ruin the villain by turning them into a sympathetic sob story. Why can’t we just have villains be villains nowadays 🙄
It was also because of the fact that they decided to move away from it being a musical live action. It doesnt take away the magic from the animated version, instead, it allows both of them to shine. An example of this is Cinderella Live Action, many of the iconic songs they didn't add into the movie, mainly because of the fact they werent trying to replace the animated one, but instead they were giving it a new light.
Glenn Close has always had the best and most accurate portrayal of Cruella. The voice, mannerisms and overall attitude she brought to life for this character will never be replaced. She kept that true authenticity of Cruella being a very English woman and also that she will speak every thought she has and doesn’t hold back from being blatantly rude. Glenn also kept the charm that Cruella has when approaching people she desires to manipulate and she made Cruella’s sense of style and passion for clothing, interior design and glamour seem completely genuine. In my personal opinion no one will ever top or come close to Glenn Close’s portrayal of Cruella De Vil.
@@brianaguilar8283 no one is shaming women for wanting babies in tge comments. They just with don't like babies or don't personally want babies. And cruella is a phyco who wants to kill puppies for a coat so if you are talking about her then you need to realize it's a movie character
HOLY SH*T THAT’S ARTHUR WEASLEY! I knew his face looked familiar when I first saw him in The Chamber of secrets, but I couldn’t pinpoint why. I’m such an idiot…
OMG! I knew Hugh Laurie, aka Dr. House. But I didn't recognize "Arthur". Though now I saw it and heard him say, "So...who got the gold" I am comparing it to HP 2 when he asks Harry what the function of a rubber duck is. Lol.
Glenn Close definitely makes this movie. The rest of the cast does well, and that parts without her are good, too, but whenever I watch this movie and she's not on screen, in the back of my mind, I know I'm just waiting for her to appear again.
She’s one of those rare performers who disappears so completely in her roles that you forget you’re watching her perform - you’re completely engrossed in the character.
@@sdm47 i heard she got to keep some of them not all of the but I’m not sure Ik she has her iconic red on black coat and the skunk bag but that’s all Ik
1:32 “We’re having puppies, too.” “PUPPIES? You _have_ been a busy boy!” 😂😂😂😂😂 As an adult, I now know what she meant and it explains that look on his face. I’m dead.
I would say Glenn is more fitted for older version of Cruella. In 2021 movie, I feel emma played cruella in their 20& 30's. I would say 101 & 102 Cruella is more in 50's & 60s
@@lotuscabrio2937 What is their? Can't you say HER 20's and 30's? Is our society so far gone that men and women are being erased by way of not using the he/his and she/her pronouns?
This movie is criminally underrated and doesn’t deserved to be received to be a bad movie by critics. The movie was awesome and a childhood favourite of mine. To think I found this movie actually quite a bit disturbing by Glen Close’s lines. I knows she’s a villain. She’s cruel for a reason also. But man I forgot about how vile and overly cruel she really was in this movie.
It is hard when there were so many good movies. Partly why I don’t like to compare films and threat them as their own works of art. Art should be respected
Glenn Close is still the best Cruella to date. Unapologetic, determined, with a hint of insanity. I love how her demented mind is contrasted with wise thinking at 0:13.
@@imstuckinwashingmachine Emma Stone was trying to portraying a cartoon character to be realistic and relatable in a story that was never written by the original author. Glenn Close was portraying a cartoon villain as cartoony as she can get while fully enjoying it in a faithful adaptation of the original story. People will only remember one of these portrayal in the long run even though the other is also good. Also, sadly Emma Stone's portrayal won't trigger any nostalgia in a few decades because in the first place, her movie wasn't even mainly for children even though it's from Disney.
@Alano G True, but I like Glenn Close's rendition of Cruella more. She's resembles the cartoon Cruella we all love. Crazy, with a hint of wisdom in the film.
villains are often the best when they are animated because of how animation allows them to exaggerate how cheesy and over the top they can be, this adaptation of cruella manages to convey that exaggerated camp and cheesy villainy as seen in animation to real life brilliantly! Glenn Close really showed up for this
“Who won the gold?” That line. Always tickled me! 😂 But the one that used to scare me is when she’d shout at Alonzo to take the paper and hand it to Anita… the suspense at the time. I’d dread it. It still makes me jump now 😂
Glenn Close is an amazing actress, she's played many iconic roles. But she is the face for Cruella, something you can't say with any of the other live action remakes, her charisma made the movie.
This may be a silly, fun little film but MY GOD, 2:19 is absolutely brilliant. The way it's framed, that set design, the use of her silhouette and the way Glenn Close uses her body as she laughed maniacally is outstanding!!🏆
@@mcmillan20101 really? Makes sense 😂😂😂 for me the best Christmas films are the ones not about Christmas … 101 Dalmatians , home alone, the holiday, just friends, etc
It’s crazy how people don’t believe me when I tell them this woman scared the living 💩 outta me as a kid! I’m now 23 years old & I’m still a little- you know what never mind 😂🤦🏽♂️
I’m 30 I was scared of her TAKE IT as a kid. I watched this movie last night of boredom. But as someone who prefers the animated original I see what you mean
One of the few actual good Disney live actions, Glenn Close being legendary...can we actually appreciate that this woman encarnated both the best Disney mother (Kala) and also the cruelest woman (Cruella)? It speaks volumes of Glenn's talent for acting.
Such an underrated actress. No one in the history of anyone can play Cruella like Glen. It takes raw talent to go from loving motherly boss to absolute screaming psychopath in 0.2 seconds
She somehow acts even more of a cartoon than the actual cartoon character. In fact between Glenn Close in this and Jeremy Irons in Dungeons and Dragons, I can't decide whose chewing more scenery.
Here's the funny thing: this was the first movie I saw with Glenn Close on it. After that, every other movie I watched with Glenn as character, I was like "Oh my god, it's Cruella Devil!"
This version of Anita and Cruella's dynamic always made a lot more sense to me than the original's. I watched that one after this and didn't buy how those two could ever be friends.
I'm living for this resurgence. This movie was underrated for the longest time. It's nice to see it getting some recognition even if it is all about Cruella. A new generation and even an older one are seeing this for the first time. I've always loved it since I saw it when it first came out. It's nice to see it in the limelight again.
I remember using that line but I actually change it to "ohh you poor thing,I hope God bless her friend" to a missing person who lost a friend by a yacht accident and a divorce shady aunt of mine.
That's like a real deep down reaction instead of "congratulations" and she's right. Why would you bring another child to this heartless world? To suffer? Girl, your life, your choices.
@belinda is better than your trash singer, u bish maybe not intentionally but having the weight of the life of another human being on your shoulders..is..very stressful.
Watching this and Cruella (2021) back to back, I have to say Emma Stone had nothing on Glenn Close. Glenn's portrayal is haunting yet the perfect amount of insanity that makes Cruella the character we know.
@@Isaacthebiggestmoviefan57 I agree with you. Tigressas statement is still correct (it's like comparing Caesar Romero and Heath Ledger as Jokers, Romero was a good Joker but Ledger was genious)
