She's very serious about social understanding of mental illnesses. She did a symposium tour a few years ago where she discussed her own family history with it.. My friend had tickets and invited me to go. It was very enlightening, for instance, I had no idea her parents had joined a cult during her childhood; she was lovely and so very gracious during the meet/greet photo ops afterwards. It was a great evening and I always smile when the photo comes up in my memories.

She is also a powerhouse in the Shield. Her character Monica Rawlings feels so real and lived in. I recently rewatched it, and (spoiler alert!): Her stunned, desperate plea when she realizes she’s going to be fired as a scapegoat for the seizures, when she says she, ‘No one fought for me?!?’ but almost whispers it because of how much it hurts her has always broken my heart. She said what I was thinking after watching Fatal Attraction. She is not a villain, she’s the victim of the patriarchal system! But, did she have to kill that poor bunny?
@humournoir7316
@humournoir7316 3 года назад
Bunny was an attempt to be seen as a psychopath. She did something hideously vile and evil to show a message that she is able to do anything to Dan to get even/get what she wants. When a mobster kills something, he’s shown as a badass gangster, but when a woman is boiling a pet in fury, nobody has any doubts that she’s mental? Think about It. I’m not saying she is the saint, she has mental problems, but they are a cause of this treatment. She was never to good to be given love for more than a limited amount of time, cause guys like Dan had more important stuff going on - family. The most unfamiliar of things to her. Think about it.

I have been on my soapbox about Glenn Close for literally decades. I don't know why the Academy overlooks her time and time again. They always seem to determine that the performance of another actress was better than hers. With all due respect to Cher, Glenn should have won the Oscar way back in 1987 for *Fatal Attraction* . I have been outraged about that ever since. Olivia Colman turned in a wonderful performance in *The Favourite* but was it really better than Glenn in *The Wife?* And now here we are in 2021. I recently read some Oscar previews where someone predicted that Glenn would win the SAG for Hillbilly Elegy but she wouldn't win the Oscar. They said "Glenn will surely win *one day* but this isn't her year." One day? Are you kidding me? How old will Glenn have to be? She just turned 74 years old this month for crying out loud. When will this wonderful and iconic actress finally get the recognition she deserves? For the love of God...let it be this year.

My nickname as a child was Cruella, I lived and breathed the live action of 101 Dalmatians. I love it and it gave me my love for Dalmatian print. My favourite film still to this day.

I stopped watching the Academy Awards after Ms. Close lost best actress for Dangerous Liaisons. Her acting in that film was magnificent. I will never forget that ending shot of her wiping the makeup off her face as she stares into the mirror.

Really appreciate the fact that some more recent editions in this series don't seem to have that kind of very intrusive background music comoeting with the actor's voice? It's difficult to listen through, particularly for us more neurodivergent folks...

What a wonderful person to listen to! Watching this I realise I remember how I was myself the first time I saw her films. Like good songs a good film hold personal emotional memories: The Big Chill [seen on the telly] first when I was a teenager, second this year much older now than the characters, Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liasons, 101 Dalmations, Jagged Edge [not mentioned here], Airforce One, The Wife. Wonderful, wonderful.

Oh yeah! Hard to find and mind blowing movie and performance, elsewhere she said she was very proud of that one and it ended up not being distributed in theatres. Incredible

They should’ve included her role with Jeff Bridges in 1985’s Jagged Edge. She was fantastic in that.

Glenn is underrated in my opinion. She puts so much effort into the art of transforming into a different person for film and stage. She can be dainty or frightening. She can posh or disheveled. She’s in my childhood forever and she’s right up there with Meryl Streep, Bette Midler, and Patti LuPone in terms of star power.

Jagged Edge with Jeff Bridges also exudes that powerful chemistry and she is so strikingly gorgeous in the '85 suspense thriller/

She is a legend, the best actress of the last 40 years together with Meryl Streep. This career timeline, anyway, isn't complete: Jagged Edge (1985), Reversal of Fortune (1990), Cookie's Fortune (1999), The Lion in Winter (2003), The Stepford Wives (2004) and, most of all the musical Sunset Boulevard (1993-1994 and 2016-2017) are all wonderful performances in different genres and media (cinema, tv, theater). She should have one three Oscars by now: for Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liasons and The Wife.

The World According To Garp is not just one of my favorite books, it is my absolute favorite film of all time. It’s a travesty that it’s so unknown. It’s simply perfect, a perfect film. If you get the chance to check it out, you won’t be disappointed. It’s simply incredible, original and one of a kind.
