A lot of people have been discussing Once Upon A Time on this video, so I can tell there is definitely interest on Once Upon A Time videos. I have seen the Once Upon A Time version of Cruella De Vil, but I didn't include it in the video because I felt it would be too complicated unless someone had seen the rest of the show. Jordan Keeler it's an ABC Drama series that has a lot of dark themes so I would recommend watching it with kids who are a little older since it's not all kid friendly but it's still really good since it's my favorite tv show

Added to the fact that her persona is so devilish, I think what's so terrifying about her character is that she is so HUMAN. There's no magic spells or wicked contracts, just a truly evil hearted woman. Thus, making it terrifying for viewers because people like her could actually be real and the fact that Roger and Anita actually knew this person and quite well. No, they didn't really trust her but they didn't distrust her so much they refused Cruella in their house.

Cruella De Ville was based on actress Tallulah Bankhead.Tallulah had that distinct evil laugh and a raspy smoker's voice, She called everyone "Dawling" because she could never remember names.

I looked up both women. Nothing on Nancy Greenwell other than a Facebook page, links to people with the same name or the same last name, and Broadway entertainment. Tallulah Bankhead was born in 1902, so any pictures of her young would've been in black and white, she loved wearing furs, and she smoked.

I think Cruella is great villain because she's realistic. Everyone knows a person like her or is like her themselves. Her incredibly over the top animation mixed with a nuanced vocal performance make her stand out. Love this character:)

Actually, in Once Upon A Time (a series that usually gives a Disney villain a tragic backstory and often they become good) as a child she poisoned all of her mother's husbands (her mother bred Dalmatians) and she was an all around psychopath since a child. She even did kill her mother's dalmatians after commanding them to kill her mother with magic. My point is...even OUAT, a ABC show dedicated to giving disney villains sympathy, couldn't even feel pity for Cruella. They just made her a cold villain, which proves how evil she truly is. Awesome video!

Eremikashipper 4ever I think Cruella was one of my favourite villains on Once Upon A Time. Her tragic backstory, her manipulative connection with the author. Even in the Underworld she didn't give up. And the actress who portrayed De Vil on ouat did a marvellous good with Cruella's London accent.

Eremikashipper 4ever I remember they made an episode about her past in the 101 Dalmatians animated series. It was that episode that resembled the Christmas Carol story... Well, there they showed that she always wanted a Dalmatian up puppy for Christmas and her family to be there. She was kinda crazy then too. So at Christmas she was alone with her nanny. So when she opened the packet, she expected to see a puppy, but she got something else instead. That kept on for years and years. So eventually she connected her parents' absence with the fact that she never got a puppy. That's why now she wants many of them to make a fur coat.

Oh yes! Even though in real life I'm more of a princess/hero I love the villains. I mean their back stories are ACTUALLY interesting, the costumes are unique and different form every other villain and the songs... well, I don't even have to go there. We all love some 'poor unfortunate souls' or 'be prepared' in the background while we study. Right?

You know, for the longest time, I had believed that Jafar's story was similar to Scar's from the Lion King. As in, he had a bone to pick with The Sultan in retaliation for a past event; but in more recent terms, I feel his connection to The Sultan is different from Scar's connection to Mufasa.

Racism is pretty much your answer. He believes himself more righteous than they and thinks they must be purged from the world. Not only does he embrace lust, and constantly takes away Quasimodo's self worth, but glorifies his own evil actions. To me Claude Frollo is the most evil villain.

actually, i think it has less to do with frollo himself and more the popular mindset in europe at the time. if you look into it, the romani people were persecuted in many european countries and were often forced to either assimilate to whatever country's culture they were living in or leave, since they were seen as criminals, thieves, and liars.

He is not a supremacist or a racist ( he wanted Esmeralda after all) ; if the parisian citizens were guiding a life of inmorality and away from church, he would also hate them. He was a judge and the gypies were thives, that was the main reason; being devoted to his faith, well, that just added fuel.

I saw the live action as a kid and loved her, maybe it was Glenn Close being so talented but he way Cruella made her presence known. What I think is so special about her is that she does not have any special abilities nor does she come from a magical world, she's sort of like the Batman of Disney Villains in that she really just has a lot of wealth and smarts to achieve her goals.

Cruella De Vil has ALWAYS been my favorite Disney villian. Her style, wickedness, sadistic motives, and the level of fright she gave me as a child made me feel she was evil to the core, not necessarily because of trauma or tragedy in the past, but simply because she is wired that way.

Her passion for patterns and spots reminds me of Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese artist really addicted to prints that spent half of her days in an asylum and the other half in her studio creating sculptures and paintings.

I wish you would have done a deep dive into her past like you have with other character studies. I'd love for a full video on such a thing. I used to have this book which told the untold childhoods of disney villains and gave the reader free little gifts and pull tabs exposing fun things for the reader. I recall vividly Cruellas section stating that one parent had black hair and one had white hair and that she wore her hair in plaits as a young girl. Her father was a hunter and her mother was a fashion designer. This would explain her careless cruelty toward animals, love of furs, and love for fashion. In the book it also talked about her hair being in pplaitsnd having dark skin so perhaps she was intended to be black. Unsure. However if you can imagine she was more devil like in the book. She adored the heat and put herself by fires even covered in massive firs, only ate spicy pepper foods including pepper flavored ice cream (yuck!) She loved reds and blacks and her place is called Hell Hall her ancestors were even called evil. She was married in the book to a furrer and drowned her cats kittens. Truly she is a wicked woman through and through.

Disney really puts some good villains on the screen like I didn't rewatch 101 dalmations (also the lion king and Aladdin) until I was 18 or 19 because I just remember being so scared when I first watched them as a kid. And still watching 101 dalmations, now age 20, I get such an uneasy feeling whenever Cruella is showing up but I think for me she's now everything I'd never wanna be and in retrospect I think I have so many principles because of Cruella De Vil.

Have you not seen the 101 Dalmatians version of the Christmas carol, I was disappointed to see it wasn't included. The short gives a back story to her about her parents and how they never got her the spotted puppy she always wanted and were always away for Christmas. Anyone who hasn't seen it should really give it a watch, I really like it especially as a short to watch at Christmas time :)

Cruella de Vil absolutely steals the show in 101 Dalmatians. Every scene with her in is dynamite. The way she starts off as simply an unpleasant friend but evolves into a maniacal villain is just brilliant. You didn’t show the scene where she throws Jasper’s (I think) beer bottle into a fireplace, which is my favourite moment of the whole film for craziness!

She was the first time little me noticed “character.” After Cruella, (A.C.?) my mind was opened to a whole possibility of cinematic personalities to ponder and enjoy. She was like nothing I’d ever seen when she burst onto the screen.

Cruella has what is called Doramania: a mania for furs. I did a math project once of Cruella De Vil, calculating how many puppies she would actually need to make a coat based on the skin area of a puppy. And how much it would cost based on the price of a dalmatian puppy. She actually only needs 34 puppies.. and it would cost about 23.800£

I just LOVE her! Did you realize that she was supposed to be in the rescuers but instead they made up "madam medusa?"Can you imagine how good the rescuers would've been, fighting Cruella in the bayou? Disney really messed that up!

Well I learned a few things about her. I haven't seen any of the movies so I don't know what happens in any of them until watching this video. If I ever see it though I think I'll look at cruela de vil differently.

Hey - thanks for the video. I suggest you have a look at Victoria Smurfit's performance as DeVil in Once Upon A Time, in which she's depicted as an absolute psychopath with an emphasis on her lack of scheming and her reckless behaviour, with the consequence of making her resembling non-Disney super villains... and then you no longer doubt that she truly deserves her ranking as the 39th greatest movie villain of all times! I haven't seen it too many times, but I distinctly remember seeing the 102 Dalmatians trailer on one of my Disney films on VHS. I believe the Cruella in the movies is really good. Thanks for watching!

it's a decent remake. Roger's a computer graphics designer (as presumably an expat, as Jeff Daniels doesn't even attempt an accent) and the animals don't speak, but for the most part, it's pretty close to the original film.

what i like most about Cruella is her viscous temper. She could be funny and elegant and then in one instance she could snap into a ferocious rage-fit. Her personality and the way she carries herself makes her very intimidating. A decadent woman, she gives off the impression that she's well educated and even though people aren't into fur-fashion any more, she does have an impeccable sense of style (especially in the live-action films) as evident by her fur-obsession and her fancy Rolls-Royce (Panther Deville in the live-action remakes).
