The Crusader 270 has an interesting thermostat assembly. My thermostat went bad, so I had to dig into it. I ordered a kit and redid the assembly. This is the video. After 6 months of running it, this engine is doing great and running cooler than the port side.

I have since started using a 160 degree thermostat, and for my water temp, keeps my v8 at a better minimum temp. 140 in cold water will often have the motor down to 100 deg, which I believe is too cool.

That lower piece on the thermostat is off a Mercruiser. All you need to do is find a thermostat cover and you are halfway to having a Mercruiser.

Yep much of the parts are. I wish there was a good translation list. I dont have a problem finding Crusader parts though honestly.

Very helpful video! I'm getting ready to do the same thing on my 454. What size plug did you need for that extra hole on the housing?

You mean the rubber plug? The big one is either 1.5 or 1.25" I think. I cant remember on the smaller one.

@@bluewaterdiy Oh, sorry, I should have specified. I meant the brass plug that you said you got at the auto parts store. Is that 5/8?

@@Brettski94 OH shoot, I don't remember. What I do is I buy three sizes, and take the ones back that don't fit. :-)
