Quill, something I've found that works well for the republics is to build a military storehouse on your family estate and use the bonus that that gives you to your retinue capacity to get a retinue early in the game. That will give you a large advantage over the ther merchant families who try to steal your trade posts because generally they can only field about 400 men in the begining so you'll be able to beat the other families in fights. Love the videos!

it is not correct because the great families of the Serenissima Repubblica Veneziana (i won't write most serene because it is horrible) were everithing but lowborns they were extremly influent and powerful families and they hadn't titles only because it wasn't tradition but they were Patrician and registered on the golden Roll (defined by the acronym n.h. Nobil Homo or n.d Nobil Donna). Every patrician family had the same rank equivalent to Prince of Blood and Was a great honor that nearly every european noble family asked for and bought from the venicians because Was considered a great title in addition to the one that they already possesed. For example the great noble family Orsini tha counts a lot of popes on their family tree Was nobil homini ad honorem like quite nearly all the great families. So it will had to be the opposite: you will have to be paid to marry that noble.

Man this game is amazing, trust it's worth every penny you spent. I was a bit lost too, then I watched the tutorials on youtube. Trust me, once you master this game, it gets very interesting and unpredictable. I now play as the Emperor of the Roman Empire, I imprisoned the rival holy roman emperor, castrated him then destroyed the holy roman empire, you can do like 10000 things in this game without getting bored.

Implying games of Crusader Kings II don't always devolve into endless matchmaking.

Lowborns are assigned to a blank no shield in the Dynasty/culture area. Anyone born of a dynasty is highborn. Courtier, Princess, ect are merely ranks. To find a lowbborn, sort by dynasty and look for blanks in the general "House" area above their culture.

I think the age limit is 103. When dicking around with the 'Health' stat in the ruler designer, that's usually when they kick the bucket. I once had a ruler with so much health, that when he got hit in the head and entered a coma at age 50-ish, he continued living comatose until age 103. Outlived his great-grandchildren. Eventually I used the "abdicate the throne" mod to get him out of the way.

You can conquer a city/county/duchy/kingdom/empire when you are in control of the republic. When you have to pay a little cash for marriage, there's a bug where you first get the liege, then you can just pick them from there. (100 gold is the lowest amount, havent seen it go higher than 400) You are competing with the other patricians in Venice for trade zones, the one with most trade post in a zone gets the bonus for the trade zone, connecting trade zones gives a bigger bonus =) Going to be fun

if you give up learning for watching this do not worry IT IS WORTH IT

12:00 (continued) If you right click on a portrait, two buttons will appear. The left button will will take you to that person's character screen which will tell you their 'house' which can tell you if they are lowborn If they are *not* lowborn, they are noble and *may be* close to inheritance, even if they have no titles. The 'Rank' sorts characters based on Emperor>King>Duke>Count>Inheritance. (Right clicking on the buttons again will also show up a lot *more* options too.)

I have to agree but I can remember some hilarious reaction faces from Quill while playing Crusader Kings 2, for example when he realized that he had a bastard child. His face and reaction were priceless :D

Yes you can. You can conquer coastal villages without casus belli, both internal in your republic ( but not the kingdom you are vassal to) and towards other nations. Your army size depends on how much you have invested in your mansion ( your own private army) and most of the time you have enough gold to buy mercenaries which probably consist of the bulk of your army, as you levies don't get that much higher than a 1000 troops.

If you hover your mouse over the portrait of a character it might say "heir to the county/duchy/kingdom of..." for direct heirs. For people with titles of their own they have a bronze border for barons/mayors/priests, silver for counts, blue for dukes, and gold for kings and emperors. Other than that you could check the world population, filter out nobles and pick from there.

Something to note, you generally shouldn't assign your spouse a council position because you lose the spouse bonus to state values. If you look you'll see that you're state intrigue was 28 (9 personal + 11 council + 8 spouse bonus) prior to assigning your wife to spy master. When you assigned her it became 26 ( 9 personal + 17 council bonus). So you actually lost intrigue by appointing a better spy master. Same obviously applied when you end up with a female ruler taking a husband.

I think if you create the duchy of Venice it becomes "The Republic of Venice", it will probably do nothing, like the Eastern Emperor creating the Duchy of Thrace, or the King of Sicily creating a Duchy of Sicily

ezio auditore (name and surname) DA = from, Firenze is the city Genova is a city too, genovese is the citizen of genova. Ezio Auditore il Genovese = Ezio the guy from Genova. Like Fiorentino is the citizen from firenze (it change everytime)

Actually, the title just converts. If you create the duchy of Venice, its just becomes the republic of Venice, and Kingdoms become serene republics.

@quill18 Iacopo is pronounced Yacopo. The pairings of the letters ia and io are ya and yo when spoken quickly like in names.

Hey quill, you can also conquer cities (you always have a Casus Belli for cities in coastal provinces)! So it is pretty smart to conquer cities from small countries (like Naples). ;)

Hey Quill, just so you know. The little shield with for example "de fancyname" next to it means they are part of a ruling family.

That's what I was thinking. The chances your ruler dies probably just goes up but never reach 100% so it becomes more likely over time but not a guarantee. So, technically, they can rule forever but the chances are minute to say the least. Especially when you have people plotting against you :p

To find how much money you pay to your family click on the coat of arms under your character portrait. Also if the other heads of your rival families aren't on your council as Doge, you get a negative bonus to your relationship.

Venice is cool and all until you get a peasant unrising that can't be overcome by you garrison. Then the game is lost because your army's can't flee towards mainland europe because venice is a island for some reason.....

Have you ever played March of the Eagles? It is different to their other games, certainly, but it is good fun to play and has a nice multiplayer to boot.

I've been playing this and found it rather easy to amass a huge amount of wealth. I started with a new ruler though so i kept all the precious money to myself.

quill you should try to plan your marriages out to get your oldest son a feudal title, then send him money or something so your family gets a huge score bonus at the end of the game from his side of the dynasties lands

Thanks, i just bought crusader king 2 for now and i must say i'm completely lost lol ! This game is deep going trough the tutorials. I tried to play Hoi before and i didn't succeed, i little learning curve there, i'm not used to these kind of games, but it look really fun once you know what your doing. English is a second language for me and it make it a bit harder :P

Well that goes for all spymasters, if there's one NPC you need to keep on your side, its your spymaster. Of course the random events in the game seem to cause wild swings in the relationship with your wife more so then any other character.

Been wishing for this! Now I can decide if I want to buy this dlc or not.

i think it might be closer to the board game diplomacy than risk which is based on chance a lot more than the CK2

try being the duke of Albany, in Scotland or the Duke of Aquitaine in France. They both start off with basically half the country

12:00 Okay, now I haven't played the new expansion yet, but it appears to be based on how *close* they are to inheritance. The only problem with this is that it's sometimes a *little* buggy, in that sons/daughters of mayors are considered close to inheriting, even if realistically there is no chance of them ever contending the title.

I somewhat agree. When I 1st heard that Creative Assembly was trying to make Rome 2 a more "human" experience I thought that they should just implement a system similar to this game instead of what they were planning. As someone who seems more experienced with this game, I must ask a (sorry, this is kind of random) question. If you are an emperor and a bunch of kings are your vassals, how much control do you have over their royal laws? Thanks.

Conquer small coastal cities from small countries (Naples, Capue or a small croatian count who demands independence right now). You always have Casus Belli against coastal cities. So you cannot lose Prestige or something.

Thanks, i'm actually watching all Quill18 videos of Crusader King 2 - Castille. And i'm learning a lot about the game. I hope to get as good as he is playing this game, i wonder tho : what should i pick to start with, i don't want something too hard since i'm still a newbie at this game. I tried England... ish that was a mistake ! I'll also go get a look to some tutorials, know any channels with good ones ? :-)

I dont bellieve theirs an age limit you can probably live tell the end of the game it just gets harder to not die as you get older.
