This video I go through my crye precision AVS set up and my opinions about it. If you don’t care about my opinions about it skip forward to 9:30. Thanks for watching!
I bought an AVS in 2015 while I was still in the USMC. Agree with all points, it's simply the best. It's just so phenomenal. I have other carriers but I couldn't care less about them, AVS is the only thing I'll grab in a hurry. Love the shaw concepts four wide placard and all your small upgrades. Getting kind of complicated with two cummerbunds and wings but owning one I know how easy it is to get in and out from the side. Side exit>>>>>>
Thank you for the video! Army guy here a lot of your videos have inspired and helped me as a TL for my setups so thank you for that. I used to have the AVS and I loved it and now I use the Shaw Concepts Arc carrier because I found myself using it more that’s why I let it go but sometimes I regret selling the AVS but oh well. Very informative video man keep it up!
@@btr-70 The AVS is great I had it for two years the ARC I’ve had for a year and half and tbh I just liked the way the arc carrier was slimmer than the AVS. Yes the harness of the AVS is amazing but for the arc it felt really comfortable as the AVS if not a little more in my personal opinion but for load bearing both are great it’s just personal preference tbh. Maybe one day I’ll have the AVS again.
you can actually run the loose ends of the outer cummerbunds between the harness and the plate bag and tie them together with shock cord to give it stretch. I run the ARC cummerbund that way along with the AXL mini harness and AVS yoke. Its such a modular system that you really can make it into whatever you need it to be.
I've had an AVS for the longest time but no real chance to use it until I decided to get sneaky and use it on ARQ completely loaded up. I might not have been running around and doing cool shit but ill be damed with all SAPIs ontop of my gear + extra stuff just to weigh me down. It felt amazing and I wish I was able to use it more often. I wish commands were a little more lenient went it comes to outside gear like this
As an 03 I’ve found the FCPCV5 to be the middle ground between the AVS and JPC. Crye is so outdated and they don’t care they have the contracts so they made it. If they made the AVS laser cut, and more adaptive they would crush it.
They should definitely go laser cut for the platebags, the harness is fine. They have ongoing contracts with socom etc so they're not gonna change it for no reason, same reason the CPC still exists in exactly the same config as it was in 2009
Do you think you could feature a medic in these videos? There’s seems to be no good way to carry a standard combat load plus a pouch with bleed control, airway control (including a cric kit), respiratory treatment( including a pulse ox and emma) plus narcs on person, plus ccp stuff, in a pouch that’s easily accessible that isn’t too bulky or in the way of combat equipment. Most medics ik don’t carry water, don’t carry medical reserved for themselves, also don’t carry easily accessible sick call meds (for example Tylenol, ibuprofen, Allegra, Benadryl, mobic, etc)
I don't have to carry a lot of weight in my job, but I have the defense mechanisms mepc with agilite warfighter cummerbund, and shaw concepts elastic front placard and shaw shoulder pads. The cummerbund and shoulder pads help give it structure and the placard connects to the cummerbund keeping it tight. It's very comfortable and I've hiked with it. I have an at-home one with more gear and I'm curious about the cost vs comfort compared to an avs.
I'm such a sucker for a gear breakdown vid and I always will be, but there's one thing that blows my mind. How much freedom do Marines nowadays have to use gear outside of issued equipment? When I was in during the GWOT days (yes i feel old now) I used the interceptor and the IMTV carrier. god help me if my command saw me with any outside gear lol
To be honest, in most units it’s still like that. Marines a usually good to go with any pouches they want as long as they are coyote brown or multicam. But most units are not allowing people to use their own plate carriers. It depends on who’s in charge of you though.
@@AppalachianAlex saaaaame bro, I was 10-14 as well. I remember getting the IMTV and the FILBE system and spending a literal weekend figuring out how to set it up bc i was the first in my unit to get it in late 2012
You're exactly right. As a young Marine a decade ago, we all looked longly at adjacent units with slick PC's like JPC's or Eagles. It was only once I got a JPC 2.0 years later I realized how much I would have f*cked myself in the field had we been able to make that decision for ourselves. Funny (infuriatingly) enough, our BC forced a Battalion wide gear SOP. Three double singles on front, IFAK on the far left side of the cumberbund so you'd hang up on every door you went through, two frags on the chest like a pair of tits, no tucked in blouses, and absolutely no non-issued kit. F*ckin sick. 2/4 was in a sad state under Brian's regime.
any form of structured cummerbund or shoulder pads will help a lot with comfort, for those of us who aren't spending crye money lol, defense mechanisms structural hybrid cummerbund is great for this, and any set of structural pads of your choice.
@@onseki1774structured pads spread the load out more, and they can also help bring the plates up to their proper ride height. Etc. No point in shitting on someone who likes structured pads. Etc
You can put another wings for TQs, under the placard but over both of the cummerbunds, and then move SPUD and your other pouches 1 column to the front of cummerbund. They shouldn't get in a way of anything, as they'll use the space over your ROC buckles (but won't block them as they're only attached to a back of a placard velcro)
Thank god I see another dude say to ignore those JPCs for grunt work, been saying it for years but everyone wants to be highspeed and uncomfortable for some reason. (not ignoring how useful they could be for quick DA stuff)
The JPC is so bad. Wore one for a couple months and that rear plate just effed my spine up, the bottom ALWAYS tilted inwards into my back. Shoulder and neck pain wasnt that bad.
What do you think of the Eagle Industries ergo performance system? I’ve heard a bunch of dudes pretty much say that it’s a great way to bridge the gap between the avs minimal style plate carries like the jpc and such.
Guys I've asked said they hate it or love it. Really comes down to what carrier you use with it, but all agreed that it doesn't fully bridge that gap to the AVS harness.
Do you think it would be practical to ever Jerry rig significant soft armor coverage to crye AVS? I run a gen IV IOTV by choice and it'd be great to have the harness system of the AVS with the soft armor coverage of an IOTV
check out the ferro concepts soft side armor, add Velcro inside the cummerbund, or another rig could be the new defense mechanisms rig, which can have large soft armor coverage, theres also soft armor shoulder pads and dangler inserts, so even your abdomen will have some 3a
Id be really curious what the PTT is. I know you said it was issued, but I want to see if someone like Disco 32 would be able to modify it for usage with civvie radios. TEA makes something similar, but no one modifies them that I know of.
@TheGruntPerspective much appreciated! Love your stuff. Spent my time as a grenadier, and love that you and a handful of other channels talk about things from the average Joe side versus having the newest hotness.
Are aftermarket carriers acceptable now for line companies? In 2013 I went on a short deployment with a company out of Horno (Pendleton) and I got goofed on the first week until I outshot them all and they found out I’ve been to Afghanistan which maybe 3 in the company had been.
Is there a way to combine it with soft armor? Ukraine experience showing soft armor is a must for infantry, because primary issue is incoming artillery fire
I'm looking to join the marines and become an officer (probably either through JROTC or OCS after college), any MOS's/information sources you would recommend?
@@TheGruntPerspective I want to do something related to infantry, what's your opinion on Recon? is it hard to get into? thanks for the advice and i will talk to a recruiter too
@@GarfieldMegaFan recon is good to go of course. The initial schooling is pretty difficult, most people fail out of it because they are not good enough in the water. Lots of swimming and rucking
I can’t find the one I bought anymore, but this one looks pretty similar www.amazon.com/Brand-CR123A-Battery-Holder-Storage/dp/B01MAVT9KC/ref=asc_df_B01MAVT9KC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693597006876&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11370000358378013674&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031555&hvtargid=pla-387834037877&psc=1&mcid=e79a4f0414ab37738c165cdc0939e26f&gad_source=1
Im assuming you are still running a belt with this. Kind of cirious to see how you've adapted it to work with your AVS vs. how you used to run it. I've never really cared for belt setups with armor as it just seems to get in the way.
@TheGruntPerspective it always made it hard to manage a pack wirh body armor and a belt. For me, belt kit wouldn't integrate well with my body armor. Granted, it was the issued Gen 1 IOTV so not the most egonomic system. I'm interested to see how you integrate them and how it evolves.
SOF carries plenty of shit and has to haul it. Breaching, meds, AT, and batteries mostly. SOCOM should continue to issue it, and guys can pick up an MBAV or whatever lighter option they want for DA or vehicle ops.
@@TheGruntPerspective having the AVS is a Godsend for mortars and weapons teams especially. But imo every infantryman should get one instead of whatever BS they've been coming up with.
hi, just watched this video and i got some ideas that may be of some help to you. it's probably too long to put it in the comments, just wondering if i could email you somehow?
