The biggest miracle of the anime was how Johan/Jesse made the crystal beast deck work with only one copy of each crystal beast monster in his 40 card deck.
Almost the same thing could be reproduced by using 1 of each except Pegasus at 3 and carbuncle at 2. So the other 5 you would usually want to place in the backrow or use them for either graveyard fodder or to xyz summon since tortoise and cat are lv3 while the rest are lv4 and what you cannot xyz summon now you can link with.
Sorta but with no pendulum summon either ... the biggest draw back of the deck is that you can’t rlly have cards that help you play defense in the back row because you need all of your spell/trap zones for big special summons with carmichael
I remember seeing the rainbow dragon retrain, thinking to myself "Why didn't Konami make crystal beasts have effects while in the spell/trap zone before?" Seems like An obvious way to keep their gimmick while giving Them a power boost
that's accurate. We don't even have the new level 8 crystal beast rainbow dragon retrain yet, and our only good targets is Pegasus and Carbuncle. Every other crystal beast is just a vanilla

If the pendulums were just called "Crystal *Beast* Master" and "Crystal *Beast* Protector" they would have so much more firepower at their disposal. But no, they had to make them just Crystal monsters and make them unusable in mr5 because of where the pendulum zones are. Thanks Konami
Yeah, true. Just making those two Crystal Beast monsters proper would have given them a huge boost in usability, giving the deck new options for their different name heavy hitters.
The errata I think every Crystal Beast player/player-to-be has been begging for, honestly. I will never understand why they aren't considered Crystal Beast cards.

Ruby Carbuncle and Sapphire Pegasus were way ahead of their time, and their lack of OPT leaves them ripe for abuse. They just need something to build to, and a bit more interruption.
i hate to see that... that means the archetype has 2 ways forward 1. Stay trash 2. get good support printed, notice that pegasus and carbuncle are actually broken, get banned and back to Nr 1
@@ich3730 honestly if they errata the pendulums to count as crystal beasts, The deck would finally be playable, but likely not as broken as Sky strikers were. Maybe when you include Zenith it becomes a bit problematic, But limiting Pegasus or Zenith to 1 fixes a lot of problems.
Crystal Beasts were the precursor to pendulum in a few different ways (count as spells, ruby spamming), so it only makes sense that the five bad ones should get retrained as pendulums that count as continuous spells in the pendulum zones
I would love to see a line of Crystal beast monster based off their dark counter parts and basically use their art work and rebuild crystal beast monster so that they are actually good.
No mention of Zenith Rainbow Dragon? Thought maybe at the end you would talk about hopes for the future, and how zenith like bond and bridge, is pretty much perfect support.
Was looking for this comment. Zenith Dragon of the Crystal Beast...target for pegasus, quick link/xyz. A body on atk declaration and combos decently with crystal conclave. All they are really needing
Its a really good support.. but wouldnt call it perfect because, 1) it banishes itself, 2) searching the rainbow dragon is mandatory, 3) it negates the effects
I share the exact same thoughts as you. I love the archetype, and it has so much potential. But the main monsters, especially by 2021 standards, are far too underpowered. The best solution, imo, is a hard retrain of the entire set. Something akin to what you'd see in 2021 decks/monster effects. "Hardened Crystal" could be the retrain name, and the main focus would be on the Crystrals besides Pegasus and Carbuncle. Give those two retrains as well, as options, but design them so, most likely, the other five will most likely be the ones to have their retrains used. Everything else, even their continuous trap, is solid.
I mean they could just name the retrains "Advanced Crystal Beasts" like in the anime, especially since Advanced Card already exists. Some sort of effect while on the S/T zone even if its one to summon themselves (like Vision HEROs) would be nice.
@MemeChip 69 CB already swarmed the field, but in a completely different way, I have no idea what you're talking about. They have ruby which is awesome at swarming and does it in a cool way, but all the monsters are so bad that they're basically useless.
He doesn't even mention Zenith which is a great support card that will eventually make its way over here, solves some of the issues he mentioned in the vid(though it alone definitely does not make the deck viable)
All this deck really needs is some up to date retrains with additional effects while in the backrow. Basically like what zenith does and boom, you have a fun competent rouge deck.
honestly wish they got the structure deck treatment when they were in the first poll with shaddoll winning, while charmers got third place and still got a VERY bad structure deck not sure how much are the chances for an archetype getting one or more support if in fifth place. that new zenith crystal beast rainbow dragon card from the ocg is so good too that it even has a backrow effect to continue combo’ing off even if the crystal beast summoned effects are negated, hope we get more halfway decent actually usable crystal beast monsters and actual good boss monster to end off in a board one day!

Not sure why you didn't mention Crystal Tree which is a great extender, Crystal Conclave, which adds to their spamming and offers interruption, and the new Zenith Rainbow Dragon
I'm coming from a casual perspective, but Conclave is dope. Every turn you can special summon a carbuncle or Pegasus or whatever. I often suicide to activate it. Then it's other effect let's you return a crystal beast card and another card to the hand. Which can be really good against your opponent, but it's also really good to help unclog your spell and trap zone, or to reuse a Pegasus.
Here's a though, Like Hero's having a all these off shoots like E-heros, Evil heros, vision heros, Ect. Have a group of support cards that bridged the Gem Knight archtype with the Crystal Beast one and you could have them gain support at the same time. Make a bunch of rock warriors that fusion with the Crystal beasts and can use the crystal beasts as a resource, Crystal beast Garnet : If this card is in your hand, reveal it to your opponent and gain permission to complain.
i came back to yugioh in 2017 and i gotta say now in 2021 i feel like more decks are viable and strong than ever before. even rogue decks can be really insane. in the past it felt more like if you arent playing 1 of the best like 10 decks then your deck basically has just no chance of ever winning
I played Crystal Beasts a lot during locals, and I think there are 2 problems that are far bigger: 1. Protection against interruptions. The decks consistency is absurdly good, but playing against decks that interrupt your carbuncle and/or Pegasus plays is a nightmare. 2. This leads to the second problem: Recycling. If the opponent blocks 2 effect activations of the 2 cards, or somehow 3 copies of Pegasus or Carbuncle are in your graveyard or banished, you can basically give up. There is nearly no way to recover from that, because you give up space in your deck either for cards that protect you/interrupt the opponent, the other 5 monsters for Overdragon, or crystal tree as an alternative for pegasus
I think it would be cool if they went with a theme of Ancient Crystal Beast. All based around even older animals. Maybe fill out the missing 2 attributes (fire and dark). One could be a starter and another could be a combo piece. Maybe the starter can foolish a crystal beast from deck and the combo piece can move itself from the GY to the S/T zone if you control a Crystal beast monster and when it enters the S/T zone this way you can search a CB monster? Or it can be tributed from the S/T zone to provide an additional normal summon of a CB monster? Maybe locking you to CB monsters as a restriction but if that is the case a good boss monster would be needed. One could have the effect "when this card is destroyed by an opponents card effects or battle: detach 2 materials from this card; fill your S/T zone with as many CB monsters as possible from your hand/deck, then if both materials detached from this card were CB monsters add 1 ultimate crystal monster from deck to hand and end the current phase"
I really like crystal beasts. They were one of the first decks I built in duel links when I started in 2018 since it used to be completely f2p. And it was the first deck I played in duel links that made me look up what TCG cards we were missing, which is how I found your channel since you had made a competitive crystal beasts deck profile.
This is a really cool way of thinking about the crystal beast!! What’s funny for me is one of my favorite cards in the entire game is Rainbow dragon but I don’t like the crystal play style and i don’t like the summoning method. But to honor my favorite card whenever I build a deck either will put the malefic version or throw in elemental hero neos and have rainbow neos in my side deck or just use rainbow dark dragon.
They honestly need 3 new monsters: a wolfbark, Armageddon knight, quick eff disruptor (something to pop/send cards to the grave). The spell/trap lineup is strong enough as is, maybe an infernity barrier, and a link 4 rainbow dragon retrain; that should be enough for to be at least rouge/tier 2 imo
Hope they make a monster with an effect like: Once per turn (during either turn): If you control 1 face-up CB S/T: Destroy 1 card on the field If you control 3: Destroy up to 2 cards
In the anime, there was a spell card that took two Crystal Beasts from your deck and put them in the backrow. They need that for consistency and more options.
Yeah, I really liked the idea of that card. Would be brilliant with retrains or new members to the archetype. Unfortunately though, only being able to get Level 3 or lowers from your deck, and only being able to activate it with a Crystal Beast in your hand to summon, AND on your field because you need to equip it to something to activate it for some reason, does make it a little awkward to use. Could easily be changed to be better, but I have feeling that it'll always feel a little janky belonging to the Tenki gang of "Can be 'negated' by MST".
Why would you ever want to summon that situational thrash,when you can have even old cards like beast king barbaros,wanghu,kuraz,generic xyz's and whatnots there?🤗🤔🥱
When Crystal Beasts just came out, they were a fairly popular option at my locals. It wasn't too hard to get hold of a playset of Pegasus, Abundance, Carbuncle and Rainbow ruins. Most of the other beasts were run as 2 ofs or 1 ofs. They mostly relied on getting Pegasus and spells to fill your spell & trap zone and then abundance for the win. The meta at locals was slow enough that you could stall with Rainbow Ruins damage reduction, Turtle's defence and Tiger's +400 to attack on your turn. I ran it a few times, and often had trouble playing against it - until eventually, I had the cards to put together a consistent Demise OTK deck which was just too destructive for slower set-up decks
Crystal Beasts would make so much sense as a pendulum deck. You want monsters in your spell/trap zones anyways, they might as well give you some more summoning power.
I'm kind of realizing they don't make new crystal beast monsters because the deck revolves around monsters with different names, so the more monsters, the easier to proc those effects
If zenith comes out, combined with the fusion trap card they have (thats searchable) it can relatively easily otk. Barring interruptions, obviously, zenith searches a rainbow dragon, fusion trap card dumps 7 into the grave (from hand, field, or deck), the fusion mob spins the board, drop 2 4k beaters and swing for the fences.
They should release re-works of each Crystal Beast monster. For example, something like this: Radiant Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth Level 4 / EARTH / Beast / 1700 ATK / 1600 DEF When another face-up "Crystal" monster you control is targeted for an attack or card effect, you can redirect it to this card instead. When this card is targeted by an attack or card effect, if you have 3 or more "Crystal" cards in your Spell & Trap Zone, this card gains 1000 ATK and it cannot be removed of the field by that card effects. If this face-up card is destroyed in a Monster Zone, you can place it face-up in you Spell and Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell, instead of sending it to the GY. If this card is being treated as a Continuous Spell, all face-up "Crystal" cards in your Spell & Trap Zone cannot be destroyed by your opponents card effects, except "Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth". This card is always treated as "Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth" No idea if this is good or not, but you get the point XD.
The only thing holding them back are good monsters. Monsters with effects when they are Spell cards like Zenith. My suggestion would be retrains of the monsters, for example: Eagle - Swaps a CB you have in the backrow for another one in the deck Tiger - An honest like effect for CB when its in the backrow Cat - All CB monsters can attack directly but with half dmg when it's in the backrow Mammoth - Protection effect for CB when its in the backrow Turtle - Changing your opponents monster to DEF Pegasus and ruby are perfect the way they are but if they would have to get retrains these are what I think would be appropriate Pegasus - When its placed in the backrow you can place another CB in the backrow with a diff name from your hand or GY Ruby - banish itself to SS another CB in the backrow These arent that amazing to be fair but it gives a reason to play more of them in the Main deck Another idea would be contact fusions and a field spell searcher
I play Chaos Crystal Clown. A rank-up magic variant focusing on making Barian Number and Dark Requiem. Most creative I have ever been and this deck has won me games.
I played casual Yugioh in college (this was around 5Ds time) where I had a friend who had all these in his Crystal Beast deck. Sometimes he bricked or didn't get Ruby or Pegasus out in time but when it worked, it worked! This was a really nostalgic video.
Leaning into the alternate versions of all the crystal beasts, a la advanced dark, would be a really easy and good way to re-train all of the crystal beast monsters and maybe even a advanced dark rainbow dragon to improve the main deck monsters with retrained. I would love to see that and it would be very flavorful. They wouldn’t even have to lean into making it just another dark monster deck, just having all the crystal beasts be “crystal beast advanced Pegasus“ and having a similar but better effect for the bad ones especially should work wonderfully
for some supporting monsters, try gravi-crush dragon & magna-slash dragon. those 2 work well with the CB's continuous spell form effect and while I cant seem to remember it now, there was a 3rd dragon that synergised with there spell/gem form. and for those that think that wasn't viable to do so, they(dragons i talked about) were released in the same booster pack that the CB's were(shame RNG hated me then as i never got Pegasus).
I think all Crystal Beasts may need is some extra deck support, like some Crystal Beast fusion monsters. To keep in line with their gimmick of going to the S/T Zone instead of the Graveyard when destroyed, give them a special fusion spell that lets you use Crystal Beast monsters in the S/T Zone as fusion material.
They should get retrains for all the monsters and I think that'd be it, ngl Like really, you give the bad ones good effects (And retrain the good ones to not leave them out) and give them a good boss monster and boom. Strong deck
It's funny to think these were basically the precursors for pendulum monsters years later. If we did get new monsters as support, maybe going all in on that angle with pendulum retrains of the original 7 Crystal Beasts could be good, since pendulum scales are treated as continuous spells so they should still count for the effect interaction with existing Crystal Beast support. They could keep the original version of the "becomes a spell when destroyed" effect, or if it would be like Endymion where they can move to an unoccupied pendulum zone as a pendulum scale. It'd leave a reason to run the originals, at least of Ruby and Sapphire, since at most pendulums sit in only 2/5 S/T zones, so it shouldn't make them all obsolete like some legacy support retrains have done before. It could have been cool to see a set of DARK counterparts with the Advanced Crystal Beasts from when Yubel was possessing Johan in the anime, but instead Konami relegated that to being covered by the Advanced Darkness field spell, so I guess we won't be seeing those.
I'd love to see new Crystal Beast monsters. There's plenty more gems they can draw from, and the cards are already set for it due to the convenient wording of "x Crystal Beast monsters with different names." It's my favorite archetype and that's exactly how I'd like to see it expanded now that we have plenty of spell support.
I'd like to see a couple of monsters that did something along the lines of: If this card is treated as a Continuous Spell Card: you can target face-up cards your opponent controls up to the number of Crystals Beasts with different names in your Spell and Trap zone; destroy them. If this card is treated as a continuous spell or if this card is in the GY: you can declare the name of 1 'Crystal Beast' monster; until the end of the turn, this cards name becomes the declared monster's. You could have ones to help break boards, ones to extend combos/put cards in your spell and trap zone/set up pendulum scales, and if they had the second effect, they'd even make casual, Rainbow Dragon builds more playable. ...either that or some in archetype Link/Xyz monsters 😅
Thing is - The fusion trap we got would be nice if it was a fusion spell like Shaddoll Fusion. Nothing more nothing less. Most monsters don't get destroyed through battle nowadays so it's basically useless. Zenith is great support for Crystal Beasts and I hope we get it soon in the TCG. But we need more cards drop monsters in the Spell/Trap zone or more Monsternames with better effects.
Now that the pendulum scales are also spell/trap zones, do pendulum monsters there count towards things like ancient city? If so, pendelum retrains of some of the lesser crystal beasts could be nice (like, actual crystal beasts that count as crystal beasts for the sake of the spell cards). The archetype also needs monsters that can have an actual effect while in the spell/trap zone, since just taking up a slot on the field is kinda why destiny board isn't great (bunch of cards on the field that are easy to clean and do nothing without other cards). Another fix could be having cards that (while on the field or maybe as a 1 turn thing from the GY) GIVE other crystal beasts effects while they're continuous spells.
I think another archtype that fits this category is Mecha Phantom beasts. Infernoble I run Dracosack, Coltwing and Auroradon. Those are all really powerful cards that generate a lot of advantage. I think they need some good Synchro mosters and maybe some extenders and probably Olion back but they are pretty good cards IMO. The token generation is insane ngl.
Personally I had a friend years back who would just use miracle fusion in his deck alongside I think stratos is the E-Hero that let's you make it's name something else and basically just use the crystal beast engine while just dropping what he needed as far as "boss monsters" went. to be fair it wasn't the most competitive deck but it was a fun one for them to play.
Technically, we do already have a Crystal Beast monster that isn’t one of the original 7. Rainbow Dragon, the Zenith Crystal Beast, is an Ultimate Crystal monster that is also a Crystal Beast monster by name. It’s a level 8 Light Dragon with 3000 ATK, and has the effect to go to the spell/trap zone as a continuous spell when destroyed as a monster. Once per turn, you can special summon him from your hand when an attack is declared involving a Crystal Beast. And you can banish him as a continuous spell to special summon a level 4 or lower Crystal Beast with its effects negated, and add an Ultimate Crystal monster to your hand. So, it’s another Crystal Beast monster with an... ok Summoning condition (if nothing else, adding another 3000 ATK to your board while attacking is neat.), and it has an effect you can use while it’s a spell. Plus, it’s a neat target for Crystal Bond, to put in the spell/trap zone. Sadly, some of the Rainbow Dragon support really *does* require the original, and not just an Ultimate Crystal monster. But you can at least use Zenith for stuff like Crystal Master and Crystal Protector. All that being said, while Zenith RD is a nice card, it’s not quite enough. And he’s not in the TCG yet for some reason. I would love to get more low-level crystal beasts to replace the ones that aren’t Pegasus and Carbuncle. There’s plenty of gems and animals to pick from. Maybe we could get stuff like Onyx Owl, or Pearl Stag. But I’m hoping that Zenith RD is a sign of things to come; it’s got effects the archetype would really like to see more of.
I feel like a lot of the GX era decks are really fun to play but lacked anything to make them that playable for more than a few months. I’m talking Crystal Beasts, Neo-Spacians, Gladiator Beasts, Volcanics etc. Hope these decks get more support in the future
I think they need to release a set of "_____ Crystal Beasts" monsters that are basically retrains of the originals, as pendulum monsters. That way when they're set in the spell zones they act as continuous spell cards with effects, and they can have effects that act as support for when they're not being used. I think a set where they're all identical to the originals like "_____ Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" with similar effects but 1 level higher with link or XYZs that can use the level 5 monsters summoned with pendulum summoning would be really effective. That way they can combo with the originals or replace them as needed. It offers support to the set.
What I think they need is a retrain of every single main deck monster. Perhaps even call them Neos Crystal Beast (Maybe have them use the restriction Poly substitute has for each monster for balance?). Give them actual effects that does stuff. Then give them 1 or 2 contact fusion monsters.
Honestly they could just make pendulum retrains of the worse ones. Let them get effects in the pendulum zones. Keep it from being too broken with the spell support they already have.
What would be really good is an effect that allows you to set crystal beasts into the opponents graveyard rather than your own, but still be considered the controller, Crystal Beast S/T Lockdown
Always loved the archetype. When working my way through Link Evolution story, I got tired of how bad some of those story decks were made, so I built crystal beasts that tried to get that trap card off that if Crystal beast dies by battle summon over dragon while milling all 7 Crystal beasts. Served me well against everything in that game except like salamangreats, but I knew searching out that trap against a human opponent was just weird. So I asked my friend to duel book against me and my god did the deck brick hard against like some orchestra/zombie deck I think he was running. It would be really cool to see retrains of the OG 7 crystals and just make them like harpie ladies if they need to restrict ppl from having 6 pegasi popping off.
A small list of crystals Konami has yet to use for CB cards: Diamond, Aquamarine, Opal, Jade, Quartz, Bismuth, Onyx, Garnet, Labradite, Flourite, etc, etc.
I think they need some kind of archetypal quick play supply squad or spirit barrier where the player could intentionally crash them to put them in the back row, and either gain advantage, or just not lose any life as the combos extended. There would still need to be a good way to reliably put multiple beasts on the field at a time, so maybe an archetypal “next” where you can special summon a bunch but it locks you out of link summons temporarily. Speed is definitely their greatest weakness, but they have the potential.
What if Crystal Beast had their Advanced Dark counter parts as contact fusions? For example, if advanced dark is present, you can special summon an advanced dark version of a crystal beast monster from your Extra Deck. Perhaps the condition on the card can be (you can only special summon 1 advanced dark monster per turn). In addition, their on field effects as monsters are a bit useful but their continuous spell effects are much more viable. What do you think of this idea?
Sadly, it is unlikely they will make more Crystal Beats monsters, as in the anime there was a point made of there only be 7 of them (1 of each) in existence... so it was kind of a Miracle that we got "Rainbow Dragon, the Zenith Crystal Beast", and that probably only passed because it is an alternate form of their boss monster.
They need a card that let's you use your opponent's spell/ trap zones as your own. That would help you limit your opponent's back row while keeping yours free to get your plays off.
Idk why these comments are confused lol. A continous Spell/Field Spell that makes it so you can also place crystal beast monsters on your opponents empty spell and trap zones. Its that simple nothing to be confused about
The card would have an effect that states whenever a crystal Beast monster would be placed in a spell or trap card zone, you can instead place it in one of your opponents spell or trap cards zones, but you may treat those cards as if they occupied one of your own s/t zones.

I think you forgot Rainbo dragon, the zenith christal beast. He is a really good monster that solves a lot of the deck's problems. It's a garnet, sure, and you are forced to play rainbow dragon to fully resolve its effect, but it effect is really good, turning pegasus into a one card rank 4 or link 2.
Casually I like this deck a lot. Especially when they changed Rainbow Dragon from "can only be summoned if you have 7 different named Cbs on the field" to "-same requirement but its now field and graveyard" Which made future fusion infinitely more useful now that we have rainbow over dragon to dump them for. I mean what is one turn of waiting if future fusion lets you mill 7 cb into the GY and summon 3 Rainbow Dragons at once. Thats some Kaiba magic right there lol
My favorite casual deck has to be u.a. though. I remember toping one locals back in the day against shadolls, burning abyss, mermaids and I'll never forget the look on the blue eyes player who put maiden of blue eyes out first turn and I jersey slugger him for a quick otk lol
The unreleased OCG Crystal Beast seems pretty neat honestly. It does require you to play Rainbow Dragon, but it's one Garnet for a free special summon off Bonds or Pegasus. Too bad it'll probably be 4-5 years before we get it in the TCG, if Crystal Conclave is anything to go by...
So they have potential like a lot of other decks, kinda. I played CB as my first ever deck and it is really fun! It would be cool to see new crystal monster's, since there's so many to choose from! Great video man!
Look at another crystal based archetype for gems to use for new monsters. Gem Knights have a lot of minerals that can be used to make more crystal beasts. The problem i see with this is that they want to stick to the 7 colors of the rainbow.
You know.....Crystal Beast user during GX era switched to a Psychic-Type deck during 5ds....and nothing...Crystal Abundance was probably my win condition....i was so stupid but they're so cool....
My friend ran them with mekkights. Good combo at least causally. Almost nothing happens with the crystal beasts except for using them to fill back row or tribute etc etc. the beasts are filler and extenders and support while the knights are the real force behind the deck
