I recognize myself in your excited discovery mode! I'm like a cracked out spider monkey when I'm chasing rocks, hiking, going for photos, while at a concert/festival and am photographing performers, chasing dragonflies, or just finding joy at being out in nature. Here's to all us COSMs! P.S. I used to work for a geothermal energy development company and plant managers/geologists would sometimes bring me cool finds when they came to corporate. I always wanted to go out to the plants to look around for myself, but I was stuck 80+ miles away in an office. Now I'd like to go out there with you and go through the tailings together.

Hi Elley, You get So excited which makes it so, for those of us who "follow" in your 'footsteps'. You are so knowledgeable about geology & willing to share it. I'm glad I found your channel on YT as it keeps me interested in what is out there, yet to be found. Looking forward to checking out your videos. Stay safe in all your travels. Thanks for sharing.

If not quartz(before watching the whole video) from the first looks, my guess would be calcite, or maybe selenite(gypsum).

Now I will have to guess that the amount of rocks Ellie takes home is eventually going to start changing the axis of the Earth haha😅

@ericasmith9007 Hahaha! Now I have to ask- are the Rocks bigger in Texas??🤣
@lisamanrique1770
@lisamanrique1770 5 дней назад
. Of course - everything is bigger in Texas!! Unfortunately, every bit of Texas is privately owned so you either need to know someone that owns land or just find a road not well traveled and crawl through a fence... it's only to keep cattle in, right? I was born and raised in west Texas and thankfully we knew several people that had good amounts of land that we got to hunt on. Some of the best agate comes from out between Ft. Stockton and Pecos and from Woodward ranch near Alpine.

Another awesome video, Elley! I'm glad you were able to figure out that they were calcite and not quartz. What are the chances that you could give us a tour of your personal collection in an upcoming video???

I'm from Nor California, my family lives in LHC, and I am planning a rock hunting adventure with my nephew! Thank you for all of your info. Hopefully I can figure out some good locations when I get there! lol I can't believe how many cool minerals are all around.

If you use acid, try 2 5 gallon buckets, one for rinsing the other fill with gallons of water distilled, and 200 mils of acid, use a metal or chemical resistant plastic strainer.

Off topic, I am still thinking of the trip you found all of the grind stones for food. Could you point me in the general direction? I'm not a scavenger, but would love to see the area to imagine life at the time. Desert drifter, and the trek planner, are two young men I follow.
