It's great to see how you've explored the various features and functions of this amazing software suite, and your examples really showcased the range of sounds that can be created with it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us, and keep up the great work!
Wow ... wow ... this is a great example... (it's a pleasure watching again this video) Thanks for sharing and ... a SUPER like !! (I really love Blade Runner ...)
All Hail DigiPhex!!! More explanation please - I think I've learnt more about synths watching this in bloody years! The 1 - Feet - 2 pipes bit alone was brilliant.
I was left wanting to hear how the sound changed after each change of all of those parameters. I'm just happy that I now own the CS-80 V and I'm able to try to recreate the exquisite sounds from Blade Runner. This is the first vid that I'm watching on my quest to master this beast of a synth.
I wish you could someday update this tutorial to the new version of the Arturia plugin. Its amaizing! It certanly is the best tutorial for the sound out there. Thanks
Aye I have this VST (: Can u make more videos on the Arturia V Collection since their ain't a ot of videos on it. If u don't have it thats cool (: I'll still watch your channel (: Ur content is dope (:
Interesting and good to learn about the different knobs and settings, but for creating the patch its confusing as the settings seem to change between cuts.maybe a final step by step would be good
Same for me. It was fun trying to follow along. I noticed at 11:17 that the 1 and 2 Yellow preset buttons were in and tried that and got a similar sound. I also tried manually copying every slider as seen around this same time with (yellow buttons un-clicked) and got different results. There is a look at all the settings at 12:48. Experimental learning! :^()
One more note as a comment lifted from GForce Software’s Dave Spiers, ALWAYS run a CS-80(V) with reverb ;) Otherwise, really nice walk thru. I always think of Jack Black when I read the controls at the far right for velocity and AT control. Totally Brill!
You all probably dont care but does any of you know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Cannon Toby Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hey men! For some strange reason, I have the CS-80V3 and it doesn't give me the option to create a new project, do I have any idea if there is another option to create a new project other than sea from that label? because when starting the vst, I directly select a preset called "Ion Storm"
Hello! Thank you for the video! I have your patches collection for the DeepMind, and those are among the best available. You have a Blade Runner patch there as well, it's even in the demo on RU-vid, and I can compare them online. How would you compare them offline - which one is closer to your opinion? Currently Arturia has again a great discount for the V collection, and I am trying to figure out whether I really need.
Sorry for the delay. I think the CS-80 V is much closer but I could get 80% of the way there with the DeepMind had I used the aftertouch. I don't think I made use of it I can't remember and also making use of both the low and high pass of the DM. I should revisit that patch and improve it!
Great :D Thanks to the wonders of modern technology we have learned to operate machinery we''ll probably never see in our lifetime. I'm praying for Behringer to make that clone. I don't have the Arturia plugin, but I have the Memorymoon ME80. The ME80 sounds a little better to my ears, but I don't know what a real CS80 sounds like... appart from all my Vangelis records.
I'm trying to figure out how to recreate the sequencer from Candy-O by The Cars. I have a BassStation 2. Do you have any suggestions on how to go about programming that sound?
Very nice try you let it sound like Vangelis Blade runner however you miss a very important synth element that is the Roland VP-330 Plus for the strings and the "vocoder"
@@Digiphex The layout is now an exact replica of the original CS80 so all of the HP, LP, Link buttons have been removed. Trying to recreate this on V4 and am not able to get the exact sounds out of it so far. Do you remember if this was running through a reverb in your DAW? Thank you for your quick response.
@@TimMoorez No it still has high pass and low pass filter. The link was just a way to get both layers on the same settings. So to duplicate my patch, somewhere in the video I say here is the completed patch, just copy this, so you will copy those settings I have on layer I to both layers I and II. The main idea of the patch is to detune one of the two saw waves a bit and you will hear the classic phasing of the CS-80, then to use the aftertouch pressure to get some LFO wobble and high pass a bit if you want. A very simple patch that you can tune by ear to sound like Blade Runner. I don't remember where the reverb is from, yes probably from Ableton.
How did you get 11:15 so smooth? I followed everything you did twice yet my sound goes PJAAuwww with a very sharp beginning, while yours goes wwwaaa like silk. so frustrating, is my synth broken?
Perhaps there are not 2 saw waves both running through 1 filter with LINK button? About 12:15 I show all settings. Just make sure that is what you have. It won't be a sharp beginning because you can see the A slider (attack) is almost halfway up. Down would be a short and sharp attack like you are saying, and up is long attack very smooth. Probably 1/2 of your signal runs through the II section filter because you don't have the LINK button on?
First off, nice work. That is one of the most seductive sounds. What was playing the backing pad, the DM12? Do you have that patch or tutorial available, if so? I have a DM12 and was thinking of selling it in favor of the fantom I have. I got close to your patch on the fantom but it takes a lot more screwing around to make it perfect. I wish the Fantom had the modulation schema of the DM12 (and all the effects as well). As you know, the DM12 allows you to layer them all on top of each other, maybe that's a bad thing, ha!
Thanks. I don't recall what I was using here but the Fantom should be able to do it easily. I think I could do the entire Blade Runner soundtrack using only the Fantom. I used to have the 88 key version some years ago but it probably hasn't changed much, except now I think you can model the classic Roland synths.
Great video! The only problem is that you demonstrated using software. Without how cheap this synth is I'm not sure why you wouldn't just pick one up for this video.
Finding a working CS80 is a difficult task. There aren't many of them, and if they need repair, the custom chips are also extremely rare. One replacement chip can cost about $1000. If you are lucky you might be able to pick up a Yamaha CS80 for $22,000.
