Here's a look at my Ctenopoma acutirostre, Synodontis eupterus, and more. The Ctenopoma goes by many names, such as: African Spotted Leaf Fish, Leopard Gourami, African Bush Fish, Bush Gourami, and more.
Sorry the video cut off at the end. My camera shut off.

if you switch the gravel to a lighter color your bush leopard will lighten his color accordingly they have very adaptive camouflage and it changes quick too

Super presentation!! I appreciate when people are talking also about these "shy beasts". I have a leaf leopard fish from a friend that gave me his 30 galon tank. To me that feels like " animal abuse" and I look for someone that have the right capacity to take care of him. He is so special among the guramis

Very nice fish. 👌 Also, research has uncovered a fun fact: fish are capable of face recognition. 😊

I think most fish keepers knew that, but until there's documented studies, it's not science. Anecdotal evidence doesn't count.

Great video. I bought a polkadot pictus, a lace catfish and striped Raphael. I had them in a 10 gal quarantine tank. The pictus scarfed down all the food and developed a big belly. Never saw the Raphael eat. I now put them in a 60 gal. I probably will never see them again. I just hope the Raphael finds enough food.

I know the Pictus will come out at night too, but try feeding right at lights outs. The Raphael will be more likely to find the food in the dark. (of course the Pictus will too) Pimelodus pictus is a "fish I'll never buy again"

Really want a Ctenopoma, but I'd have to hold off on it for now since I do have danios and neons roaming in my tank. Wouldn't want them becoming a snack for that camouflaged beast. Would also love a Eupterus, but same with the former reason, I've temporarily satisfied myself with a Nigriventris. Some of my favourite fish undoubtedly. 💯🐡🙌🏽

Just wondering about the gill plate on the syno eupterus.... I noticed it looks a bit white or short you might say not sure don't get me wrong it looks great but I went ahead and scanned mine and realized the gill is a long pointed shape very triangular completely unlike yours. Ever notice this or is it just me? He looks great though maybe just an abnormality.

I have an African Leaf fish myself, about a year old, great fish. Lives with Frontosa, Arowana, Koi Angelfish, Blood parrots and others in my 125 gallon. Only fish it doesnt like is the Geophagus which is about the same size. My leaf fish seems like it's the smartest fish in the tank tho.

I have 3 of these and they are babies but growing like weeds. Great to see an adult specimen. Mine have much more contrast in their colouration, is that something that will fade as they mature or was your bush fish quite dark from the beginning?

I was going to ask about a ctenopoma vid 👍 I'm interested in getting one of these beauties for my 55g and was wondering what tanks mates would be best suited. The tank is currently cycling at the moment (tested yesterday and ammonia is now reading 0) but I have lots of seeded media and it's been heavily planted also..the tank was (is) going to be based around the African leaf fish
@DanHiteshew-oneandonly
@DanHiteshew-oneandonly 6 лет назад
They're generally peacful, but will eat anything small and swimming. ("small" is reletive to the Ctenopoma's size.)
@nowhereman5760
@nowhereman5760 6 лет назад
Dan Hiteshew Yeah i saw the video of ctenopoma Vs oto haha 👍 The 55g will be his/her home for a couple years until I sort out a 100g , was thinking of just having the ctenopoma on his own or a pair if poss? Been told they'll be fine in a pair as long as they're put in the tank at the same time, is that the case in your experience? They will be tiny babies also. Was thinking just the ctenopoma or pair plus a couple bottom dwellers in the 55g until the move to the bigger tank. Or would that be pushing it?
