In 1970's my dad bought a 149 for light use on the farm and mowing. He bought an International loader made for this tractor but found that what he wanted to use it for was impractical so he traded it for a snowblower. Big problem though was the front axle attachment as we bought it was too light for this use and had to be repaired several times over the life of the tractor on the farm. After leaving the farm however the tractor stood up well and my brother still uses it till this day.
@shooterm24sniper we built it to look like an old white oliver backhoe. from scratch. thanks the bucket all the way down to the ground has probably a breakout force of close to 2000 pounds. (yes three zeros after the 2). lift capacity to full height is about 1200 pounds. look at my new videos of the loader. you'll get a better understanding of the weight handling.
thats a very nice old cub and I had no idea they made all those attachments for them,,i have a old cub 106 from 1970 but it doesnt have a PTO on back but Im sure could be fixed with one,,,nice tractor.
@bobbyj423007 we are still using 2 inch bore hydraulic cylinders. the loader lift cylinders have a 12 inch stroke and the bucket cylinders have an 8 inch stroke.
@hammerdwn20, thanks. the white oliver is my grandfathers. right now we have it torn down to just a tractor because we had to rebiuld the transmission. but when we get it back together. i wiil post some vids of it working and a walk around of the white oliver and my little backhoe, youll see its kind of a mini me of the white.
@ringbolt9 no no power steering. the front has nearly no weight. if the front bucket was flat and waist high. you can grab underneath the bucket with one hand and pick the front wheels off the ground. youll see maybe 200 lbs of counter weight mounted in front of the grill and the loader itslelf weighs in at about 300lbs. thats how heavy the backhoe is. power steering is in the future though. right now its in the garage.
Nice setup with the loader and backhoe, now the governor needs adjusting, because it is a 14 hp; it shouldn't bog down any, and the valve gap should be checked also, if not a complete valve job because i heard it fluttering to catch its breath a couple or so times; anyway that is a nice job done on it and with it too. Nice 4 ⛤ job
@Searsnut11 pause the video at 6:18. you will see theres an "A" frame that bolts right to the side of the frame of the tractor. you'll also see the side post where the loader arm and the hydraulic lift cylinder attaches. the side post is straight up and down until it gets to the bottom of the lift cylinder. then it angles in to the "A" frame. ive been having trouble with severe cracks right where it starts to angle to the A frame. thats 2x3 3/16" inch tubing. im gonna change the design.
looks like another one sitting in your garage only maybe older than this one,,i had a chance to buy 4 of them the other day at a junk yard for junk rates and didnt have the spare money and one of them was mint perfect condition paint and all but was missing the carburator,,I bet all it needed was a new carb and I regret not buying them but didnt have the spare money brother,,it looked like a cub cadet dealer at the junk yard that day,,,later
Is the Cub running ok? something sounds like it's knocky? might just be the video. AWESOME set up. I am about to own a Gravely 812, I NEED the loader and backhoe, Kwik Way are still going and making these units.
I found where u told about the cylinders, what about the pump, im lookin for one and would prefer to have the same type of performance from it as you have here
@ad356 idk anything about the later mtd made product. we have a 100 and 2 149s. obviously one of our 149s is a backhoe. every thing is stock. i hate to say it but we beat the piss out of this thing(backhoe). we'll drive fast over rough terrain with all that weight bouncing around like hell. that rear end is alot tougher than it looks
@TheFiretender i have a rough drawing, but i had to ajust alot while the build progessed. there not engineer drawings. sorry, i wish i had a better set.

You could at one point order a loader for these tractors. But I believe this was built from the P.F Loader plans. The backhoe is definitely from that P.F plan set.
@jonboy4662 go to google and search for micro hoe (pf engineering). they sell plans(blueprints) for a loader and backhoe that work specificaly for cub cadet. we built this loader and backhoe from scrach. i dont know if you can build one on your own. if not, try ebay and craigslist. i think the loader ive seen that goes with cub cadet is from Danco. danco loaders. hope this helps.
hey guys i went to mytractorforum. thanks jaydalebob and hammerdwn20. i get a vid of the backhoe digging in grass to show its true colors. the loader is too light to dig into the grass. at least mine anyway. to be honest the front would take a while to dig into the grass. theres not too much pushing power....yet. i have a project coming up.
how high does your lift go? im in the process but im at a snag my lift capsity maxes out at 5 feet is that enough if im only going to be doing stuff like what you show in your video?
Guy hasn't responded to questions for seven years he ain't gonna start now! But there does seem to be quite a lot of information online re: garden tractors with backhoes and loaders.
I love cubs and this is neat....but it's really too light of a machine and the cycle times are way to slow to be productive. You'd feel exhausted running this for 8 hours.
True. Even though I like to find some fault in something...I wish I had the thing. Here I am pointing out my perceived flaws...and there he is moving dirt pretty darn good.
+NeilLB7 It would sure beat the hell out of a wheel barrow and shovel in a place where a larger tractor won't fit, like the back of a residential lot. I've spent a lot of hours on a Cub Cadet 124. :)
