This is the 1st part of starting the swap of the 30mm fine spline axles onto a cast iron rear end of a Cub Cadet 982. The castiron rear end adds weight and us stronger than the aluminum. The 30mm axles were used starting in 1990, They are the strongest axles for a Cub Cadet. This swap gives you a very string robust rear end in the Cub Cadet.

Very interesting; like the series. Gee these things are stout😃👍. These old axles seem like quality that's becoming so rare in todays disposable or throw away mentality...where low purchase price is the main brag. If people 'only knew' what they weren't getting! Your pace and clarity are perfect!! You really bring the viewer along! ...Perhaps for another time and place: On your Ventrac with its Peerless 2600 axles I'm left wondering how that one comes apart since I think there's no big cover. I'm guessing the tube inner-end flange bolts have to come off to remove the axle tube extension with axle shaft still within.... Then, once removed, maybe that's where the C clip is? Thanks for sharing.

They do not make things like they used to. I have never seen the insides of a Steiner or Ventrac. I am sure they are more diffacult than the old Cubs.

I've put my 782 Cub Cadet through some abuse with plow snow and dirt. Even after 40 years of working, it is always ready for more. These transmissions are built very well.

They were very overbuilt. I think using the Cub rearend in the Cub Cadet helped keep down the cost. The rearend ended up being well overbuilt. I have put my 108 thru some pretty bad abuse thru the years. Corse axles held up so far.

I appreciate seeing someone modifying any tractor to better suit their personal preferences. Thanks for sharing your work. I'm new to the Cub Cadet scene since I've acquired a 1990 2182 Super Tractor with of all things, a Kubota 3-cylinder gas engine. I LOVE this thing. As I have been exploring its features, I find a splined shaft coming out the back of the hydro pump. I cannot find any info on this and hoped to get some by posting this comment. Any help out there?

The splined shaft on the rear of the hydro is where the optional rear PTO would hook to. You can add the rear PTO, But they are not cheap.

@@steiger256 Thanks for that. It's kind of what I thought but can't find anyone posting a set-up to use the shaft. I'll keep looking.
