The 3 stage Snow Thrower attachment for Cub Cadet provides an excellent means of using your XT1 all year round. Changing between the cutting deck and the Snow Thrower is not easy so I decided to record my efforts in the hope that it might help other users. Please let me know what you think of this video.

Thanks. I just finished doing mine for the 2nd winter and your video is very helpful. Last spring I removed the snow thrower without detaching the carraige from the rail assembly. I was able to re-install it the same way. I gradually raised and blocked both ends until I was able to move the tractor forward a couple inches to engage the pins. I’m not sure it was an improvement time-wise, but the belts seemed to be easier this time around. It’s still a 6-hour job for me. You are right about having to do much of the work by feel. It’s a very poor design from an assembly point of view, but it is a solid piece of equipment.

Colin you're by far the smartest guy on youtube who has put out a GOOD "how to" video for cub cadet snow blowers. After watching Part 2, I finally figured out why my unit wasn't blowing snow correctly and it was the blowers belt arrangement. Thank you for putting out such a good "how to" video.

Many thanks for watching the videos - I am really glad that they helped you. I think that the main problem is with the cub-supplied installation diagrams where the images are presented from a given viewpoint (e.g. from below) and you have to mentally transpose the image to where you are viewing it from (e.g. from the side). I will be doing a 'reverse' installation come the spring (snow-thrower to mowing deck) - watch this space.....

The hood should just come off when you open it half way after disconnecting the light plug.

I’ve been wrestling with mine over two days. I gave up today because I cannot get the belt on the back pulley. I cannot spin the pulley as you did to get the belt to seat itself. Maybe it’s because my PTO is electric. The blower is brand new so the belt has no stretch. I’ll have to jury rig something before trying again.

Thanks for making this informative series of vids sir. Can you explain the purpose of that final round bar you inserted in the back of the drive? My unit doesn't have that at all and I don't see what it is for.

Thank you your question - the bar at the end of the video is to act as a guard to prevent the belt coming off the pulley at the back - I am surprised you haven't got one. It could be that the bar is already installed at the back of the carrier - can you see the two holes at the back - if not check if the bar is slotted into place - I hope that this helps....

@@colinsibthorp1503 Actually sir, I downloaded the manual for the snow thrower and it appears that bar and the tubular bracket around the PTO pulley is for models with a manual PTO. My XT2 has an electric PTO switch. Thanks.

Ah - that makes sense - sorry for the confusion...

I'd modify the hood front hinges and use snowmobile rubbers tie downs. No way i'd go thru 6 months in the cold not being able to acess the engine. Imagine having to remove the blower just for a simple repair.

The hood actually comes off very easily with the blower installed. Disconnect the headlight harness, and lift the hood slightly and it'll lift straight up and off the machine, but if you've kept up with your regular services, and changed the oil/filter and air filter prior to the beginning of snow blower season you honestly don't have any need being under the hood.

OMG! I'm crying for you. Why cub has made it so complicated 😓😪

Thank you for your input - I don't think the process is overcomplicated (sorry if I give that impression) but, to do it properly there are a lot of steps.

@@colinsibthorp1503 my 2166 is not nearly as complicated. Hats off to you for perseverance

It’s made by MTD. It certainly was not designed with ease of installation in mind.

Its not complicated, its just time consuming, and unless you have the soft cab you'll end up covered in snow pretty quickly while using the blower LOL. Wear a heavy jacket and a rain suit, you really get a lot of snow blowing back at you no matter where you point the chute.
