Another great honest review. What separates you apart from other review you tubers I find is that your objective and impartial in your reviews regardless of how big or small a company is, or regardless if something is an entry level sim racing item or something more advanced. You have always stayed true to who you are.
Serial Number SRG on the PCB so they definitely knew it was for review. We can assume this is the best QA'd one to come out of the factory. Glad to see cube stepping up their game, hopefully the newer revisions are more durable than the older ones.
Just ordered this an SC2 Pro, very excited. Thanks for your review Barry, after this video I opted for Formula Sport over Formula Pro as this will definitely meet my needs!
I’m disappointed no one has made a comment yet about how this wheel is more advanced than the 2019 Williams F1 wheel. Poor Williams. Maybe next year will be better for them.
Thank you for another great review. Given I bought a new Ryzen PC for my "man's cave" where I have sim rig I was thinking about a new wheel. This looks very promising. I'll wait a couple months if others come out with something better/different (among other things because I race with GT cars). I like you can use it without gloves. Enough buttons. Visually pleasing wheel. And this is in the price range I am willing to spend.
These guys are probably the only one who offers ready to use wheels at least when it comes to DD. Some are probably fed up with out of stock ascher racing and ssrg button plates. Anyways, the new GT line from cube controls is spot on. Not sure about the electronics though. Wish SRG would get a chance to try one of the latest GT wheels they offer.
Barry, if you had to chose this wheel or the Simagic GT4 carbon what would you go with? You have reviewed both so I would love your opinion to help me decide on my new wheel. They come out to be very close to the same price since I would get the GT4 without the paddle shifters.
Great review. That DIN connector cover hanging loose when you drive just gets to me. Seems so sloppy on such a finely designed wheel. Not sure if it can be removed?
Nice wheel but I'm noticing a trend of wheel manufacturers moving away from using Bodnar boards and knitter switches and cts pots to using custom printed boards. Not a good thing imho especially if anything goes wrong in the future it's not as easy as just de soldering a switch and replacing it. Ascher wheels have gone the same including getting rid of the carbon and using cheaper switches which has turned into a Fanatec equivalent that's 3 times the price. The days of wheel manufacturers using top end switches and rotory encoders are coming to an end unfortunately. Only company I see still knocking out top of the line wheels with knitter switches and cts pots is SSRG.
I very much prefer custom PCBs over a huge ratsnest, in this case it looks like all switches are just soldered onto that as well, so you can just desolder them and pop in a replacement. The quality of the components used is a different topic, but if the quality was similar in both cases I don't see how a PCB would be in any way worse than a ratsnest, very much to the contrary even.
@@KacKLaPPeN23 I've never seen a high end wheel have a rats nest. It's not the replacement of buttons that bothers me the most it's a problem on the pcb that will be none replaceable further down the line. Bodnar boards are around £25/35. I know what you are saying but this is kinda like Hifi or PC to me or like high end RC cars with separate components. Anything goes wrong on my laptop and parts are generally none replaceable compared to PC. Same as all in one Hifi compared to separates. I just prefer parts that can be changed easily with off the shelf components rather than been locked into a specific pcb especially at this price point.
Precision Sim Engineering has the best switches and encoders I've seen anywhere. They cost more, but you can't accuse them of using any cheap controls.
Great review. The cable that's in the quick realise looks like some sort of USB port. At the PCB there are 2 unused connectors, could they ad later offer an ad on dual clutch or extra rear buttons?
I just purchased the Pro version of this wheel and it has great functionality, but the shifters I can't seem to get used to. The throw on them is just to long, even in the shortest setting. Would love to be able to use this wheel but sadly I will be selling it. Also the shape of the grips allow my hands to slide around to much when making a fast turn.
@@simracinggarage3026 I think it's down to my setup, my DD2 is mounted to an rseat N1 and wth the Podium Hub mounted to this wheel puts it to close to my body to get a good grip on the wheel and my current setting position is perfect for my other wheels so reluctant to change it. I love the throw distance on the McLaren wheel and the Podium padels kit it's perfect for my hands I wish the Cube padels had this short of a throw
Sometimes you just have to adapt or accept what life throws at you. It can't be all perfect. When driving a real car on a real track, it is what it is. I did a testdrive with a Norma FC20 and it was what it was. I can't bitch about the grips, the feel, the length to the wheel or whatever. You accept and adapt or not. Sometimes I have the impression that us simracers are nitpicking that it becomes a standerd. There is a lot of choice on the market and it has advantages and disadvantages. Why can't we just enjoy what we have?
Barry, thanks again for this review. What are you’re thoughts in general on the durability of grips? Rubber grips seem the most durable to me, currently have one custom made wheel from SSRG with alcantera which is awesome, but with my knowledge today I would have chosen something a bit more durable with regard to the grips. The wheels from pro-sim for example or precision sim engineering.
Yes, I think the rubber or urethane grips are more durable. They will still wear though. And some may prefer a softer or harder durometer, so best to try different ones if possible.
What is the shift knob you have on the Prosim shifter? I recently purchased one and have been looking for a bigger one. Thanks for the reviews as always!
@@simracinggarage3026 I got one too, its on my channel. Its got a few mods as well. The bigger DR400E Exhaust pipe, manual cam tensioner, jetted a bit more, Bigger bar clamps with fat bars, pillow grips, tail light mod and case covers. I want to do the FCR Carb but $700 is a lot but I know it really adds a lot of power to the bike. Theyre kinda heavy and slow compared to MX bikes but still lots of fun! Also an Athena big bore kit would be nice :D ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PLRU3OvGVMo.html
I just got this wheel and honestly I think the paddle shifter are too light and don’t feel as good when compared to my Fanatec formula V2 with CS magnetic shifters!! I hope cube controls would come out with stronger shifters !!!!
Neils Heusinkveld did some testing of the SC2 pro on his channel and compared it slightly favorably against his Bodner SS2, mainly because he was able to configure it to his needs better.
Entry level formula wheel: 700€ Yea, I think my whole simrig came out at less unless you count the VR headset but I also use that for other games. Is it just me or is simracing really lacking some in-between products from independent vendors? There's not much between a T300/TS-PC and the High-End offerings right now. I really want to see more stuff in the price range of what SIM-PLICITY is doing.
@@donovanturcios3713 Fanatec is so large that I don't count them as an independent vendor anymore. Actually considering how they are doing business they aren't far off of being the Apple of simracing. Maybe I should've worded it differently but the stuff I find the most lacking is aftermarket/universal stuff that's pro-sumer but not high-end. Maybe a buttonbox for your wheel that's not 700+ but more in the range of 150-300 while still being agnostic to whatever it's mounted to. Or a set of pedals between the Heusinkveld Sprint and Fanatec Clubsport v3. Or those lower powered (but still plenty unless you just want something to rip your arms out) DD wheelbases sim-plicity is offering. If I had to decide between a Clubsport v2.5 and a SW-7 or something I'd probably pick the SW-7 just because I could use any rim I want and wouldn't be bound to an ecosystem that might haunt me later.
no, just the shifter are better. If you already own a formula v2 modded usb (coz this whell isnt for fanatec base) this isnt an upgrade for you. i own the v1 modded on my OSW with the Q1R quick rlease, is the best whell i own (and it is in good company)
but if you need to buy new, buy this one. The v2 + the mod + the shifter is 700 euro plus shipping and modding to be done, the cube control is ready to go.
@@simracinggarage3026 thank you Barry. would you buy this wheel or the Asher Racing F28? i Can't make up my mind.. i like the look of this one but im not sure if the Quality is same as Asher..
These guys make fantastic products. Everything they make looks great. Fanatec needs Podium wheels like this. More mature looking and instead of adding OLEDs screens as the Podium bases already have giant ones. Maybe Offer backlit buttons, better build quality. Idk...I see these wheels and I drool. Id hate to use a wobbly Podium Hub to use a wheel like this on my dd2.
make sure u attach it right. i dont know anybody with wobble problems... even barry said nothing about on the latest review. maybe he also attached it wrong.
Steffen 83 I’m saying I have flex. My Podium Hub does, my Mclaren wheel does and my Formula Carbon does. My BMW wheel is fine though. That thing is a tank.
@@OhItsThat dont know... maybe they solved it already. but i think there are way more people without problems, compared to the one with. i also have a podium hub, mclaren-wheel, porsche 918, p1 with quick release and the bmw gt2. and none of them has anykind of wobble. all rock solid.
Steve Claeys Sure I agree. Just talked about the statement on their website. „Just started...“ Almost noone starts simracing with a 700 wheel and a direct drive motor. That’s just not realistic imo.
@@AttilaTheHun333333 Some do, but they are not called simracers. ;-) A lot of real race drivers want a sim setup to practise and train at home and need a realistic feeling sim setup and then this could be entry level for them.
@@steveclaeysgoesracing So you think real race drivers would say "I just started sim racing". Is that even possible nowadays? You would drive in a sim before you ever touch the wheel of a race car.
@@AttilaTheHun333333 Ofcourse, I sell simhardware and race for real occasionally and the high level but still amateur driver have no knowledge of the simracing business and want something like that at home for fun and real training.
I beg to differ the usb cable is not in any way high quiality, I bought this wheel, on button wasnt soldred, and now the usb cable doesnt work, and it does not have any visable wear. buy a g27 or g29 they will work for years, all these other more expensive ones are nothing but a huge disappointment every time.
Hi Nikolai, We’re sorry to hear that. We would like to say that precious feedback like yours helped us tightening QA's test on all our products. With regard to the USB cable, as we advised, the issue in this case was due to an incorrect connection. Please just contact us for any further question, we work hard to make you guys happy and satisfied as this is what matters the most for us. :) All the best, Iride
