The CUBE Kathmandu Hybrid Pro is the mid-point model for the Kathmandu line. It's a feature complete ebike that that comes with fenders, a rear rack, and integrated lights. It's available in two colors (grey and brown), four frame sizes, three frame types (high-step, mid-step, and deep wave step-thru as shown in the video), and sold predominantly through independent electric bike dealers. The drivetrain is an 11-speed 11-51 tooth cassette and Shimano Deore derailleur with one-way clutch to reduce bouncing and derailment. The drive system is a Bosch Smart System Performance Line CX motor offering 85 newton meters of torque, it comes with the PowerTube 625 battery pack, and LED Remote with Kiox 300 removable grayscale display.
Some of the drawbacks I noticed are no bottle cage bosses on the step-thru wave model, a spoke mounted magnet for the rear wheel speed sensor vs. a hub mounted design that would be less exposed, a fairly high weight of 59.5 pounds, a charge port that is low on the frame and in the path of the left crank arm, a battery protection shield that is color matched and does not lock to the frame, no USB charging ports for smartphones and other electronics, the need to use the ABUS key to unlock the battery slot when re-installing, the headlight is mounted to the fork arch which is unsprung (I prefer the crown or the stem or handlebar which are sprung and higher up for improved visibility). Some positives are that the fender mounts directly to the suspension fork lowers vs. using plastic cuffs, and CUBE offers a great warranty. All of the hardware is high quality, well fitted, and the bike should be fairly durable.

Your review aligns very well with my experience with this model. I purchased mine this April from Scooteretti in Ottawa and rode 1500 kms before recently putting it in storage for the winter. I rode a mix of paved and gravel paths and the bike is great on both. The Bosch system is outstanding. I rode 98% of the time in Eco mode where it rides like a normal bike with the sense that you always have a following wind. I typically recharged after 100 kms of riding, generally with a third of the battery capacity remaining. Other than routinely cleaning and lubing the drive train, the bike was maintenance free. The components are excellent, with the exception of the bell which I found to be inadequate. I installed a Spurcycle Precision Bell which is amazing, albeit expensive. If you ride a mix of paved and gravel surfaces I definitely recommend this particular e-bike.

I haven’t been in the market for an e-bike since I got my GoCycle 5 years ago. I’m glad this channel is still here and still awesome! I learned all I know about e-bikes on this channel!

That's great to hear, and thanks for the compliment! GoCycle is excellent. I hope it has been holding up well for you. My Aunt just bought one and was very excited about it. They love to boat, and I noticed that you have a sailboat in the thumbnail!

At 3:50 you are wrong about the placement of the light. That is correct. Greetings from Sweden

So many electric bikes out there now, many with very similar components. Why is it we rarely see comparisons, getting two or three bikes of similar price point and seeing which one is best? Is a Reise & Muller really worth $7k? Is it so much better than a $4k bike? What are the differences? This is the info we want to know

Great request, I'll take this into consideration for future videos. I often focus on one ebike at a time so I can go deep and keep things under control. I don't charge a fee, I am often alone, and that can make it difficult to show multiple bikes at once.

Court is being humble about his website. It lets you compare specs of bikes against each other and the discussion boards are active, including some head-to-head conversations.

Just reading the review on the website prompted a thought: If you could include the tire width in the tech specs that would be great to know.

Review request - CUBE Longtail Hybrid 725 - if it's available in Canada? It looks like it can carry a lot more weight on the back with only an extra 4" length? Thanks :)

What’s the price range on these bikes
@twloughlin

CUBE bikes are on the more expensive side. Depending on model, the range is about $3-6K USD.

Here are the two specs buyers are most interested in - price and weight. Neither mentioned as far as I could tell.

Sorry about that! I have noticed that price has been variable in recent years. I'll often post and then have to change it. More data is back at the site. The weight is something I try to measure, but was unable to on this particular review.

Price sure, but weight? It’s somewhat important, but it’s not top 2 (at least not for everybody). Range, power, and drivetrain are all more important unless you need to carry the bike up stairs everyday.
