For people who didn’t see, Happ and Contreras hugged each other a few moments after Contreras got hit. Then Mikolas still decided to drill Happ. Ridiculous, classless, and chicken s*** move by the Mikolas. Obviously unintentional and any argument saying that you have to retaliate there is asinine. Those announcers should know better.

If he had hit Happ with the first pitch he wouldn’t have been tossed. The fact he did it two pitches in a row is what got him thrown from the game

I love the absolute incredulity that Mikolas was thrown out after what was clearly intentionally hitting Happ. It was clear that Contreras was accidentally hit and the two former teammates even hugged before Willson left. Why Miles felt the need to hit Ian is beyond me. But the announcers were laughable!

The response by the cards pretty much sums up the entirety of their season. Good win Cubs!

Why is acceptable for pitchers,’the most protected player on baseball teams, to attempt to deliberately hurt another player to “send a message” all while being protected? It makes no sense. The ejection call was right, what if the pitch before hit happ in the head? That’s your response to a long backswing that happ obviously didn’t mean to hit contreas with? I can promise you contreas and happ are closer than contreas and any member of that cardinal team

Not a wise choice by the Cardinal pitcher. Back swings do hit catchers, but they have been teammates and are friends. No way was it intentional. The drilling of Happ was so obvious, he had to get thrown out.

So Mikolas said he was just backing his catcher up, who was accidentally hit by his friend Happ, but Mikolas was aggrieved that he didn't get a warning. How many shots at Happ did he want to take exactly?. He got exactly what he deserved.

I'm a long time Cardinals fan, in other words, old, and I agree with the umpires. Retaliation when there was nothing to retaliate for is ridiculous. Evidently the Cardinals thought they could drill Happ and the only consequence would be a warning, and the ejection was a warning to other teams that there is no free license to throw at other players.

Chip Cary you were both ignorant and out of line in your commentary on what transpired . First of all what happened was unfortunate. But Ian Happ in no way was trying injury Contreras, and it was an accident. But after they resumed the game first pitch by Mikolas was up and inside and Cary exclaimed " message sent". Next pitch hits Ian Happ and Caray again " message sent. Mr. Cary what happened to Contreras was an unfortunate accident and in no way intentional. In your words it appears you feel Mikolas was justified. A really bad moment for you in your broadcasting.

Then, Mikolas was seen talking to backup catcher, who for the next 2 pitches mysteriously NEVER GAVE A PITCH SIGNAL !! Hmmm, thinking Mikolas said "I'm beaning this Happ guy". I firmly believe he tried on that 1st brush back. Then the coward waits until he's in front of Card's dugout with 25+ guys as back-up, then he taunts Cubs bench, who just laughed at him...what a wimp.

They need to stop the batters releasing the bat on the backswing, I 've seen a few catchers being hit by those unchecked swings.

The Cubs are now 4th in the NL in runs scored, and that's with an off season for Ian Happ, a poor season from Suzuki, and below average overall production at 1b, 3b, and DH. If they could add 1 or 2 bats, and a couple of quality arms in the bullpen... they are a definite WC threat. IF ?

Knizner now has 8 hr 23 rbi in only 128 AB. Meanwhile, Contreras has 11 hr 40 rbi in 303 AB. Thus, the Cardinals should just give the starting job to Knizner, and trade Contreras back to the Cubs where he can DH & Catch 😊

Suzuki has been a big disappointment with his bat this season and should NOT be batting after Bellinger. Isn't it obvious that Morel should be batting after Bellinger. Suzuki is hitting only .241 since the AS break with an anemic slg. pct. of only .315. The St Louis broadcast team is a joke. What Happ did was an accident and both Happ/Willson hugged it out after. There is no ill will between Cubs and Willson, yet the Cardinals purposely hit Happ b/c of an accident. Mikolas deserves to get tossed and the Cardnials showed us all how dumb they were. They had 2 outs and decided to hit Happ, Cubs made them pay by putting up 3 runs in the inning.
