The Cuckoo is a traditional tune that I learned from Clarence Ashley's version of the 'Coo-Coo Bird" from the famous Anthology of American Folk Music created by Harry Smith (see links below). This song always stays in my head because of the catchy melody, and I always love a good minor tune. Sometimes, the best tunes are minor tunes. Also, because of the way the banjo melody is supposed to be the coo-coo bird with the rakes/brushes on the banjo part, and the call and response with the vocal line. Love this song. Clarence Ashley plays it in A minor. I capo up to the 5th fret for my voice, and play it in C minor.
